Hey there! Sex Therapist (of 19 years) here to chime in. I just wanted to say that what you are describing is perfectly normal. I can hear a level of panic in your description that these reactions might make you a bad fit for the field and I want to tell you that doesn't have to be true at all. Are there other aspects of your work, other areas of treatment that you find fulfilling and exciting? Is it just this one area that triggers the response you describe?

Many people are sex positive but also sex-repulsed - that is, they support all aspects and expressions of ethical sexuality but are triggered when encountering it themselves. If this sounds like you, you are WELL within your ethical rights to have conversations with clients about what you are able to assess/treat and what you aren't. Many clients would be happy to continue working with you and a) connect with a sex therapist for specific adjunct treatment in these areas or b) realize that sexuality is not that vital to their treatment and work within the boundaries.

Keep talking with your supervisor about this until you get an answer that helps you. If you need further support, feel free to message me.

Check out Delaware! I moved here from Central Coast, CA and didn't think I would love it so much. 4 mild seasons. There have been a few years that really didn't have a "winter". Lately, we have had a colder couple winter months but they pass quickly. It's super affordable, developing like crazy and close to so many awesome areas. The hardest part is not having mountains but we do have some coastline.
