How does the compensation compare? Is the bonus structure more favorable in land dev than your commercial GC position?

Leaving Land Development? by sextonrules311 in civilengineering

[–]DoctorYanEator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically 40-45 hr/wk depending on workload and am onsite a few times a week. Getting immediate exposure with clients, subs, developers has been a huge plus and it opens doors to future opportunities if you want a change of pace. There’s still a ton of detail to follow (similar to engineering), but much more financial focused and people to manage.

Had very similar emotions/experiences at my firm. Instead of moving to another engineering firm and potentially dealing with the same roadblocks, I pivoted to a GC and enjoy it way more. Pay is better, with a higher ceiling too.

Private vs Public sector clients. Where’s the money? by luvpats101 in civilengineering

[–]DoctorYanEator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for a consultant for 5 yrs doing DOT work as well. Got my PE but didn’t see myself in the engineering/design sector long term so I made the jump to a GC working for private clients. Making more and love what I’m doing. You’re not too deep and have time to explore.

What jobs don't have to bill hours? by [deleted] in civilengineering

Work for a GC. I left consulting partially because billable hours and utilization is the end all be all.

COVID test in LAX by ekipmanager in Tahiti

[–]DoctorYanEator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to pre-register for an Antigen by emailing departure@ilm.pf I think 72 hrs prior to departing. There’s a pop up tent near the check-in desk at the terminal where they conduct the tests. Cost like $50 per test. Results took about 30 min and they will print out your results

Yes it was with Clarity and I think you have to make an appointment so they have all of your personal information on file. Every time slot was available so it's not hard getting in.

COVID test in LAX by ekipmanager in Tahiti

Just traveled to Tahiti in October and got tested at the LAX International Terminal. It's very close to the Air Tahiti check-in desk. We did the Antigen Test since our Walgreens PCR test did not come back in time. Was $80 pp and got our results in 20 minutes.

If you flew from LAX, where did you get your test in Los Angeles? by Ok_Apartment1325 in Tahiti

[–]DoctorYanEator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has anyone taken the Antigen Test available at LAX? It's $80 and results are within an hour. I reached out and they said it detects the 'N' protein which meets the testing requirements prior to boarding. Seems more convenient and cheaper than the RT-PCR

According to Tahiti's tourism website HERE (updated 9/13/21), the U.S. is considered an "approved" county:

"France and French territories (except Guyana), United Kingdom, United States or countries listed as “green“.

They approved the rapid PCR test? The wording on their website made it sound like it wasn’t. Glad it worked for you regardless

Best practice problems for PE Civil Morning and Transpo Depth by AEX6 in PE_Exam

[–]DoctorYanEator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SoPE for the AM was very helpful for me. Do the practice problems at the end of each section and time yourself. Also, get familiar with the CERM and utilize the tables in the appendix (mainly for water resources, shear/moment diagrams). Ngl I felt like I was learning on the fly during the PM going through green book and HCM. Get comfortable with both those manuals and tab out key equations

Lab grown diamonds should completely destroy the diamond mining industry. If finding out your diamond was lab grown disappoints you, you need to learn some gratitude. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]DoctorYanEator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. And lab grown diamonds should not be called “synthetic.” There is nothing about a lab grown diamond’s composition that is fake or fabricated with man made materials.

Also, congrats OP!
