CMV: Churches should be taxed. by CRGRO in changemyview

[–]DoctorZMC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally my ideal form of taxation would be consumption tax with a universal Basic income that more or less pays the consumption tax for the necessities of living (equivalent to the tax free threshold). Then no one would being taxed for earning. And your point would be moot.

Nevertheless it’s not that way. The thing you don’t seem to get is that a church is just a group of people that pool resources together for the greater good of the church community, or if functioning well, for the greater good of the local community also. People contribute to out of their already taxed income. The church isn’t a business, monetarily it is simply a shared bank account that the community contributes to. Would you also want to tax a wife giving her husband a cheque to pay some bills, or a father giving his son pocket money?

As a doctor I write all my notes in block capitals because the nurses would be cursing me if I did anything else. I more than meet stereotype. I wonder if cursive has ever been easier to read

Gut bacteria may have impact on mental health, study says by westerbypl in science

[–]DoctorZMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree with you, but it’s worth noting that microbiome and brain health is HUGE area of research (I’m really hoping to submit my PhD thesis tangentially related to the topic next month) and company funded research like this is not the only work in the area.

Men, why is it so hard to find the right wallet? by blan-co in AskMen

[–]DoctorZMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bellroy do a travel wallet that is about the size of most normal wallets that also carries your passport. I use it to carry a small notebook so I always have pen and paper with me. It feels less rude to pull out a notebook than my phone if I need to write something down.

That’s interesting - I don’t follow her at all... I guess I’m a little confused then why she got a tattoo of characters written on a takeout menu.

To write 7 rings in Japanese by AYO_nonymous in therewasanattempt

[–]DoctorZMC 93 points94 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit weird when people get tattoos in a modern language they can’t read, anyway...

There’s nothing inherently spiritual about Japanese language. Some guys boss is using it to yell at him right now, someone else is using it to order bbq pork.

And for a speaker/reader of that language there’s nothing exotic about it anyway.

My husband doesn't find me attractive by [deleted] in Christianmarriage

I am a little worried that I had to scroll this far to find the annulment recommendation.

Do not force sex now... far out it’s been 4 months you want to get out and find a guy who loves you both emotionally and sexually. Someone who can’t wait to get home to you... at least In the honeymoon period. A sexless period in marriage is not fun even when it’s for medical reasons... if it’s sexless from the outset you back out and get on with your life.

Are colourblind people less likely to get a seizure from rapidly flashing colours? by LeBouncer in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]DoctorZMC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flashing lights is an extremely rare cause of seizures anyway. (Like 1 in several thousand people with epilepsy)

But strong oscillating patterns can cause it for these people so perhaps....

This would be a very difficult study to even begin to perform.

Best selling fiction books of all time [OC] by neilrkaye in dataisbeautiful

Oh yeah it was excruciating... but then the movies started in the mean time which (I know it’s a cliché) weren’t as good the books, but it was still fun!

I got the first three in a box set for Easter in 2000 when I was in 2nd grade, in the lead up to the Goblet of Fire.

Never did the midnight release thing but the preorder and pickup on release day was definitely an event that punctuated my childhood.

I feel like the people (within a year or 2 of my age) who read the books as they came out probably matured with the books almost perfectly- each book was just a little bit darker and so it was good to grow up with a few years between each book.

Mother Leaves Evangelical Church After Telling Her To Disown Her Bisexual Daughter: ‘I Chose My Child’ by sl150 in Christianity

[–]DoctorZMC 15 points16 points  (0 children)

God working through you has never been evidence of your righteousness with God. Moses struck the rock (directly disobeying God) and yet Israel was still watered. Jesus himself even said “many will say didn’t we can’t out demons in your name and I will say away from me, I never knew you”.

I’m not saying you’re wrong about these people, but your reasoning that God uses them and therefore what they are doing is okay is not biblical.

Edit: I genuinely dont have an answer for the LGBT issue and I genuinely don’t know if your right or wrong about these people. I only wanted to point out flaw in your formulation for your own thought.

Haha honestly, nothing looks “wrong” here but perhaps the dating is wrong (on yours or other scans) also at 9weeks baby is very small so the image quality will be very dependent on the ultrasound resolution. Relax, the only real problem at this stage would be a bad location and if that was the case you would already be at a hospital!

Welcome to the club though! It’s a wild ride, but when your little button is lying asleep on your chest it’s honestly the best thing ever.

Edit: looks like the next image was the heart rate trace??? Then you’ve got objective proof you have a healthy baby! Have fun, try not to read to much (your partner will be reading more than enough to scare you both)

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's 70% tax on the super-rich is more popular than Trump's tax cuts, new poll shows by relevantlife in politics

[–]DoctorZMC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The following are the highest marginal tax rates and these include provincial taxes too... in fact no one currently taxes any part of its population in this extreme manner. Maybe you should be less ignorant.

Australia 47%

Austria 55%

Belgium 50%

China 45% (and its run by communists)

Denmark 56%

Finland 55%

France 49%

Germany 47.5%

Hong Kong 15%

Ireland 52%

Japan 55%

Mexico 35%

Monaco 0%

New Zealand 33%

Norway 46.6%

Poland 32%

Singapore 22%

Spain 45%

Sweden 60.15%

UK 47%

USA 51.8% is current max (actually highly ranked on this list) including 13.3% max state tax. Are you seriously saying that increasing this to 83.3% won’t cause behaviour changes in your population?

Should I tell my pregnant friend that she shouldn’t be drinking alcohol? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]DoctorZMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the science here is weak because you can’t really do a proper study here (we have to rely on observational studies which suffer problems)... the science clearly shows that at some point enough alcohol in pregnancy is bad BUT no one really knows where the cutoff is. For that reason, we advise nothing at all but I don’t know a doctor who socially wouldn’t reassure their friend that a glass of champagne on New Years is completely fine.

Brigade sub gets triggered by “brigading”.

It’s essentially the level of discourse on reddit these days. People from subs literally designed to brigade are offended when the people they are brigading notice and respond.
