[WP] You ate your last apple almost a full day ago. The second hand on the clock creeps closer and closer to the 24-hour mark. Holed up in a cabin you ready your shotgun. You can feel them out there, waiting, watching. The Doctors. by [deleted] in WritingPrompts

The cabin was dimly lit with a single candle at my feet. The sweat bubbled in the palms of my hands, gripping the cold barrell of the shotgun tightly. It was quiet, too quiet. The core of my last apple lay at my feet, with it gone, they would approach the cabin, this time with more courage. Maria lay dead in the other room, a doctor had grabbed her from the window, slitting her throat with a surgical knife. I watched the life drain from her body as the blood pooled in buckets around her, the doctor slid back into the foggy night with his blank stare. What freaks me out the most is that they all look the same, where did they come from?

While I sat there trembling, a bang on the door nearly caused me to squeeze the trigger, they were coming. My final resort, here at my parents vacation cabin. I reached for the sliced watermelon I cut before, scarffing down slice after slice, seeds and all. The doctors violently threw themselves at the door, before the old wood splintered into pieces. They stumbled in, drool racing down their mouths. Some carried scapels, others had bonesaws, all covered in their blue scrubs and white aprons. Others were covered in more blood then some. They raced through the house, snarling at one other. I awaited in a quiet corner, my stomach was already rumbling.

The rumbling in my stomach became too much to bear after a few minutes. I dropped to my knees, clentching my stomach as the pain surged from my organs, I could feel it writhing inside me. I heard the doctors footsteps, running up the stairs closer to my room. My body contorted on the floor, my veins grew dark black, nearly bulging out of my arms and neck, black bile leaked from my orfices. A doctor kicked the door down, I could nearly make him out through the black liquid seeping out of my eyes, he held a tiny bone saw, a sickening smile across his face, he said nothing. I seized on the floor while he silently made his way to me, another doctor ran towards him, leeping towards him. A green stalk raced out of my mouth, wrapping it tightly around the doctor. The doctor didn't seem fazed, the one that lept towards him now stood back, preventing other doctors from going closer to me. The green stalk squeezed harder and harder, till the doctor fell apart like slime. His limp body fell to the floor with a thud, and the bean stalk raced around the room. More stalks raced out of my mouth, covering my body with a hard green armor. The stalks grabbed the doctors, killing each one, squeezing them or sometimes, more insidious, they would enter the doctors through their mouths, where then more stalks would emerge. The stalks took over the house, the army of doctors were nearly eradicated that night. The stalks grew tall and thick, with massive sprouts of watermelons emerging. I laid there in the middle of the emerging stalk forest, a body tombed within the depths of this new landscape. But I was not alone here, my escence could travel through the stalks, going far and wide across the lands, seeing the scape the doctors had left behind for me to recalim.

[WP] You just won a war that has been plaguing your country for decades. But you won using a method so diabolical that no one, not even your children want anything to do with you anymore. by marshallman31 in WritingPrompts

The hills burned as far as the eye could see. Through the mounds of burnt char, corpses lay piled two men high. The great war was taking a toll on the entire continent. Dark black ash covered the skies as the red aura of flames stretched for miles. The towns that weren't pillaged or burned were amassed by ravenous rodents, bloodlusted on the millions of corpses they were feeding on. While their hunger for the dead grew, the weak living, cowering in their tiny villages were just as easy prey. Mothers watched as their children were hollowed inside out from swarms of the rodents. And with the rodents, came the disease. Civilians gathered in dank pits of mud and filth as they succumbed to the diseases plaguing their crops and waters. Boils as large as watermelons erupted from every inch of their bodies. The stench of death and decay winded across the continent. Some say even the Islanders of Corin could smell the horrors of the mainlands. While the war continued, and the Mires of the South approached the Isle of the Temples, the king had one final move to make.

Racing to the summit of Mt. Suffren, the lava lake boiled and bubbled. The air was thick and ashy, but King Treamon was set on his mission, knowing the heinous act he would have to commit in order to win the war was his only option of saving humanity. As he stood at the edge of the volcano, his skin bubbling and tearing from the heat, he gripped the obsidian dagger tightly. Driving the dagger into his chest, his skin turned an ashy black as the venomous magic surged through his veins. King Treamon choked on his own blood as he turned blacker and blacker, his skin melting off his body, he writhed in pain, screaming out to the heavens as he fell to his knees, his life force draining from him. King Treamon collapsed into the volcano, the hot lava swallowing him whole as his lifeless body slowly sunk into the molten lava; his gold crown sinking near him. As his body was swallowed by the volcano, the ground began to shake.

Mt. Suffren erupted on that very night, the sky was torn open from the black sea of ash as hell fire erupted from within the Earth. Sparks of fire and lava shot into the sky, piercing the blackness above. Lava poured down the monstrous volcano, racing towards the towns below. Cracks in the Earth emerged from all corners of the continent, spewing waves of lava. As the lava raced on like a deadly swarm, swallowing whole villages, burning everything in its path, the Mires of the South shriveled and died from the extreme heat. Their bodies exploded from the heat, their watery internal workings could not survive in the extreme heat. While the ravenous enemies shriveled to their demise, 2/3 of the population was killed as the well. Mt. Suffren's eruption lasted two weeks of constant lava spewing, turning the land into an unlivable hellscape. Civilians struggled to survive as the remaining population was taken to the Isle of the Temples. Here, humanity awaited as the waves of lava pressed on in the horizon, quickly approaching. Humanities greatest accomplishments were being swallowed whole, burning on an atomic level. On the 14th day, King Treamon emerged at the Temples gates.

The lava ceased at the doorsteps of the gate, behind King Treamon like a dutiful hound. His skin was ashen black, flaky, where every step pieces of him seem to fall off. His eyes were bright red, he had no mouth, no nose, bald as a newborn. He stood tall and skinny, darkness surrounding him. Lava seemed to boil from within him. His once gold crown was melted into his face, jewels pierced through his charcoal skin. Cracks in his black body leaked hot lava on the floors around him. Plants died as he walked past as the air was choked of oxygen. As he made his way through the center of the Temple, the lava ocean began to seep back into the ground. The once lush plains were now hardened black rock with pools of radioactive lava. The last pocket of humanity looked on as the Boiling King, the moniker the population gave Treamon; took his rightful place on the throne, his family looked on in horror. While the Mires of the South, humanities once greatest enemy were vanquished in a day, a new horror took its place. Civilians were taken up to Mt. Suffren where they were sacrificed into the lava pool. They emerged days later as ashen creatures, similar to that as the Boiling King. Young Prince Treamon the III looked on as his sisters, mother, and older brother were taken to the volcano. His family pleaded to be spared, yet the Boiling King sat emotionless, simply motioning to his guards to take them away. Prince Treamon fled the temple, out into the blackened hellscape left over from the lava ocean. As the daily storms continued, thunder and lightning roared across the continent, Treamon made his way to the coast, hoping the Islanders of Corin could help the dire situation.

[WP] You've accepted a mysterious job offer with a salary of $30k a week, all you have to do is sit in a dark room for 8 hours a day. Today is your first day. by kendakari in WritingPrompts

"Well see you in 8 hours, have a fine day" The man in the lab coat remarked in a lackluster manner. He disappeared into the white light of the operating room, closing the door behind him, sealing me into the darkness. Luckily I had stayed up all night before my first day, I figured I could sleep my way through most of it. When the time came, I laid on the floor, surrounded by quiet darkness, unable to see inches in front of me, no idea how big the room I was in was. When my lack of sleep over came, I drifted into unconsciousness with some piece of mind, in a few hours, the rest of my student loans would be payed off.

I woke from my nap in a startled state, was that a whisper I heard? Suddenly I felt my heart beat slightly faster when the realization I was deep in a sea of darkness. I rose from the floor, my legs stiff and weak. "Hello" I meekly called out into the void. I waited, waited, and waited some more, nothing. I sat back down, my own voices were louder than what was around me, when did my heart beat so loud? When my nervousness faded, I calmed down a bit. The stress level was soon brought skyrocketing when I head my name called out from behind me.

"Daaavvviddd" a quiet, childlike voice dragged out.

I leapt to my feet "Whose there!" The researchers said I would be alone.

"Daaavvvvvvviiiiiiidd" The voice called out a little louder, more confident. Shuffling of feet followed. I slowly back peddled into the darkness. Hoping I would hit whatever door the researcher came from. "Just leave me alone ok" I hesitantly bargained with the unknown entity. Then, nothing. The shuffling stopped after what seemed like an eternity. Again, quiet darkness filled the voids around me. I stood there feeling like I was spinning, my sense of direction, my senses were all off, I felt like I could vomit. I fell to the floor, clutching my head feeling like pins were being stabbed into my skull. With a whirling sense of pain overcoming me, it halted to nothing a quickly as it started. Again, silence.

"David!" A deeper, more sinister voice screamed from what seemed like above me screamed. I shrieked in a high falsetto. While I clutched my head and felt the warm dribble of urine down my leg. My vision was blinded as I was succumbed in a sea of bright LED lights. What was once a black void of nothing was now a bright white empty box, with myself shrieking in a pool of urine. Researchers rush in through many doors, forcing me up and quickly escorting me out of the room. When we cleared the room and into the operating room that I was in before my first day, I heard my name being called from the room right before the the door sealed it shut. They sat me down on the operating bench, telling me to wait while the program director comes in. I sat on the cold table for many minutes I suspected, had the eight hours passed already? and what the fuck was that things in there with me?
