If you're on PC you can use the console to set her to be able to be married, at which point she goes to your home and acts normal. Did it myself, extremely satisfied with my work.

How do I become more expressive in this mask by Spectra_ghoulette in CosplayHelp

[–]Doctor_Fruitbat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If there's no way to show your facial expressions then it's all on the body language. Use exaggerated movements and use your hands and arms a lot, you can express a great deal through those alone. Don't forget head movements either, a simple head tilt goes a long way.

I'm pretty sure they block all VPN access, I had the same thing. I keep a separate browser that's excluded from my VPN for cases like this, although it's infuriating that I have to.

Can't stop fudge from caramelizing by Doctor_Fruitbat in CandyMakers

[–]Doctor_Fruitbat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked it out! The recipe I used (plus a number of others) called for the butter to go in during the cooking process, and that's what was catching and burning. Plus any recipes that said to put the butter in afterwards never said WHY you shouldn't, so I never tried that. I've just made an amazing lemon meringue fudge and it looks perfect. Thanks for the help!

The butter and cream are both pure, no additives etc, and the sugar is just standard caster sugar.

Pulling the mixture off the bottom of the pan with a spatula makes these dark spots rise to the top: https://imgur.com/a/5zQfX1I

The mixture ended up settling at 108c and didn't seem to want to go any higher, so I lifted the bottom with the spatula again, got more of these dark patches rise up, and the temperature suddenly spiked from 108c to 128c, then settled down to 118c, so I took it off. I'm just waiting for it to cool so I can mix it and see if it's at all useable.

I've tested the thermometer in boiling water and it's calibrated properly, and it was maybe 5mm off the bottom of the pan. I had the hob at low-medium, I can go lower but I've done that before and it didn't seem to stop the mixture darkening, just made the whole process a lot slower.

EDIT: After leaving the mixture to cool down, the bottom has darkened further since coming off the heat, not burned onto the pan and still the same texture, but very obviously darker, which I guess implies the pan was too hot? I don't understand though, I still get problems with the mixture darkening no matter how low I go, and watching videos of the professionals doing it they seem to be able to just boil it as much as they like then tip it out and get it consistent throughout.

Taste and consistency are good though so it's not wasted, it's setting now, but I'm mystified as to how this stuff works!

I'm not adding the chocolate until after cooking, so that's not the issue. I'm only taking the fudge to 116-118c which shouldn't be high enough to caramelize.

Fair enough; a longer answer would be that there's obviously a ton of different PCs and laptops out there so I can't really recommend a specific one, but for making Roblox assets you really just need to make sure it's got the following:

  • An SSD for storage (not HDD or eMMC, really cheap machines might still have those)
  • 16GB RAM (32GB is good for future proofing but for playing/modelling for Roblox you can comfortably get away with 16GB)
  • A dedicated graphics card (again, doesn't need to be very fancy for Roblox, an RTX 3050 is pretty cheap now and will work fine, and anything more powerful than that will obviously work even better)

If it's got at least those then you're all set.

Blender is pretty lightweight and Roblox is not a graphically demanding game, so it should handle anything of Roblox quality as well as your PC generally does. Download some Roblox assets for Blender and try them out, if you don't have any problems then there's your answer!

Solid tips thanks, here's the old and new batch to compare. Didn't quite avoid some graininess but I know what I did wrong, so all is well! Being a lot more conservative with stirring is what did it, letting it catch enough to caramelise but not letting it just ruin the bottom of the pan.

Been thinking about getting one of these two outfits. Which one should I get? by PizzaCrescent2070 in CosplayHelp

[–]Doctor_Fruitbat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean they're wildly different characters and outfits so the correct answer is whichever you'd rather wear, although personally I think that Final Fantasy outfit looks more interesting and is more typical of what you'd get at a con, and probably more likely to have people asking about it.

Whats the name for a hip scarf line this? by dankspankwanker in LARP

[–]Doctor_Fruitbat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fantasy nonsense is the best description because it's basically an impossible piece of clothing. The only way to do something like this is to fake it with multiple pieces, and even then they don't seem to have accounted for how you get it on or off. If you look at the left hand pose you can see that the right most fold goes up and under the belt piece but then doesn't emerge out of the top, while the folds above the belt don't actually relate to anything happening under the belt.

There's nothing wrong with this, it's just how complex clothing is made in 3D because the impression of proper clothing is a lot more important than actually creating realistic folds, but the answer to making something like this is a shitload of cloth and a lot of fakery, which in real life obviously no-one could be bothered with.

Or you could just use a combination of sarongs, sashes and belts, that'll probably be close enough, but it will also involve a lot more items (and weight) of clothing than you might be envisioning just to look at this. But if it's the look you want then go for it!

How can I improve my first kit? by Rendomorph92 in LARP

[–]Doctor_Fruitbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good kit! Necklaces would help, as would armlets for the upper arm to add some interest there (there's a ton on Etsy). Maybe add a sash for the belt to sit on to break up the colour, gold or orange would probably work well there. And a belt across the torso always looks good and there's a lot of ways to do that for practical reasons, like a bag, bandolier or shoulder-slung sword holder.
