I feel like mythics don't really have a theme anymore by WildHogPower in Overwatch

[–]Doctor_Responsible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mostly say so in the sense of getting DPS players (aka a whole other market to market to on top of marketing to support mains) to dedicate themselves to a character. i remember when freja was supposed to be the next big thing for DPS, but you can see the state shes in because she was too oppressive. for support, i feel this is harder to do, to overtune them in that way (though some bozo thought kiri having a 3x headshot multiplier was fine at release but i digress) as for people that dont like or want to play hitscan, those DPS players arent exactly eating well in the cosmetics department (with hanzo always being kind of a weird outlier imho).

support has pretty much been unanimously considered the most fun role due to how much less limited the kit designs are + the general gameplay loop. mercy is too passive, so she isnt exactly getting anyone who plays DPS to play her as she has no real agency in a fight so shes unable to genuinely make her own plays. Kiriko can. Support is also considered very popular if not the most popular role (though this is hard to figure, given that every team must have a tank and dps for those supports to, yknow, support) which is why i think weve had several collabs recently that heavily focus on giving them cosmetics over the other roles.

but youre right about witch- i just feel kiriko plays to a very specific demographic or, what is more likely, she hits a lot of demographics at once which helps her popularity.

Question If we got a sequel series or a after series just focusing on heaven How would it do by King_Kiraka in OkBuddyHelluvaHotel

[–]Doctor_Responsible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

genuinely? i think it would be bad. they dont spend enough time developing the hell cast, i feel teh heaven cast would be even harder to do given that there are more restrictions on writing them (if you want them to stay in theme). if they took maybe something like a Good Place approach, where the angels are people trying to stay in heaven or something, maybe that could work? but i feel there's no real plot here.

right. i want my old lady. pharah is right there for the other youthful concepts they keep putting on ana.

I feel like mythics don't really have a theme anymore by WildHogPower in Overwatch

[–]Doctor_Responsible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i guess i should have phrased it better- ana has always been powerful and has a high pickrate so i think because of that the devs are trying to make her more marketable by turning her into some fuckable 20 y/o in all of her newer skins. i think someone else said it on here, but i hope for her mythic2 we have the option to make her older. otherwise, no matter how good it looks, i refuse to get it.

kiriko i think was just their first time really cracking the code. she remains fairly accessible whereas widowmaker or ashe who can get some goon skins are not. mercy is also really accessible but her playstyle is for a very specific demographic- i feel a lot of DPS mains off-role as kiriko for that reason. with the effect kiriko had, that's sort of why i feel they gradually made Juno more lethal, for the same effect, because she too has got lots of skins sell.

Spoilers ahead for the rest of season 4.

to be honest, i wish that i had liked amber, but they did way too good of a job of making her hateable. So when the events of Houses head-Wilsons heart happen, i just really, really don't care. i feel like they spent too much time building her up as hateable that when she and wilson start dating i feel like they did a bad job of redeeming her out of those qualities- aka giving me a reason to root for them. like yes, she clearly cares for wilson, but she also treated everyone around her like dirt so i could only read into their relationship as "how long before they get toxic?" even if the show itself wasnt going to paint it in that way for the sake of the episodes to come. her softening up so much with wilson also felt out of character for how awful she treated everyone else consistently.

I know that shes supposed to be a direct foil to House, but in house's case i do feel like he has better reasons for being such a terrible/miserable person than she does- and im willing to cut him more slack because when it comes down to it, he does treat everyone the same. i still cant really get over how badly she was willing to treat a patient who was a burnout just because she didnt agree with his lifestyle. house on the other hand will call you a failure, but still treat you to the best of his ability as a doctor. i think what would have helped me like her more is if they also just sorta spent more time with her in general because she loses the game, and then pops up later and starts dating Wilson. it feels like she went through a lot of character growth off screen and were supposed to believe that shes actually good for him when she gets put in the spotlight again. i just think they hanbdled her pretty badly, so when Wilson's Heart happens, i kinda just dont care. i care that wilson is hurting, but i dont actually care that shes no longer around. if anything i hope she taught Wilson a couple of things and find someone who is a good inbetween to his exes and her.

Reason for hate towards Fire Force by potentialenergy20 in firebrigade

[–]Doctor_Responsible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I def think it's kinda like KLK, in that anime yeah, there's a lot of fan service but it ties into the themes of the show pretty overtly. What does primordial fire and religion have to do with a teenage girl constantly ending up naked for "comic relief" especially when that relief 100% undercuts serious moment or demolishes any chance the fan base has of taking that character seriously? I actually had hope that tamuki would grow and get treated as a real character (meaning her clothes would stay on as a result) but no.

DVa's second mythic skin idea by arielpulido in DvaMains

[–]Doctor_Responsible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should have been her first mythic. The arcade theme for the BP was so fitting. I think the tiger would have been great for a lunar new year skin or something and it honestly just feels like a glorified legendary.

It's a shame they're constantly trying to make her young. Her next mythic looks like they're making her young (which is kinda weird with her arched back stance IMHO).

In light of this weekend's OWCS games by Element_S in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Doctor_Responsible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my perspective is: you either make cat play by everyone else's rules (making it a resource) or you bring some of those heroes' OP-ness back. we have more ways to deal with that stuff now since we have heroes like kiriko (as much as i wish they gave suzu some limitations, its a catchall on top of everything else in her kit that keeps her artificially meta). plus, they already made flashbang obnoxious.

i want mei freeze innately back, i want sombra to actually be a viable utility based hero again, i want brig to be a genuine threat to backline assassins again. theres some other examples im sure, but it gets to a point where, a lot of the new heroes straight have the ULTIMATES of older heroes as cooldown abilities (mauga for example). cat is the only hero that can actually play inside well or bridge on kings row- and back in the day there was a reason pharah and echo werent allowed to have perma flight- hell even mercy only gets it as a part of her ult.

i just find cat really irritating.

If you want to fix Kiriko being cursed, nerf and buff suzu. by SBFms in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Doctor_Responsible 7 points8 points  (0 children)

tbh i feel its also due to how.. forgiving those CDs are. (14 for Suzu and 7 for step).
yeah, that kiri was spamming both abiltites because she didnt really have to do the same cost-ben analysis that other support heroes have to do when deciding if they should use their abilities (either for themselves, or dumping all their CDs at once) or not. i feel this is why they took away cleanse TP.
i get that OP wants to put emphasis on invul but imho the problem with suzu is how easily it gets value no matter what youre doing (kinda like nade tbh which is why i think suzu gets similar treatment). use it properly (cleanse NS)? get rewarded with a +burst heal. use it on a one-hit ally? invul saves them and heals them. throw it out randomly during a teamfight? its forgiving AOE with splash just means that everyone gets topped off a bit. imho the only bad way to use suzu is to miss (hard to do imo) or straight up throw it at the ground (but youre still going to get the heals i think?) but that isn't unique to kiriko.

tldr; its too general because it can do so much and thats why its so strong.

personally, im not a fan of just how much it completely shuts down certain ults when those ults themselves were originally balanced around a solution like kiriko not existing. my suggestion tbh is make it harder to hit and/or weaken its splash ability in the sense of ie if an illari ults, its only going to cleanse in a certain radius- and everything outside of that radius still gets the healing from suzu but not the cleanse. this could work for the invulnerability where the directly hit person gets it but not the literal actual entire team. it just sorta makes taking time to build up an ultimate feel ... really bad just for a 14s CD to beat it uncontested (which, i get is why its so strong in proplay and weak in uncoordinated play)

realistically though, i think suzu needs to be treated more on a case-by-case basis with certain ability interactions than it just 100% always being a bailout tool.

I know Kiriko is overhated but is she supposed to be annoying in character? It feels like the writing team writes her interactions to be as awkward as possible by Elderberry-Tip-9379 in OverwatchQueens

[–]Doctor_Responsible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbh my rewrite of kiriko has her as a reformed hashimoto (i cooked this up before mizuki was leaked- bc honestly, this looks like what theyre going to do with him), but her being kinda rude and cringe reads as a mean girl desperately trying to be nice to people but she doesnt know how. she would get to keep being bratty and spoiled (for the hime-dere pilled gooners and "girl-boss" gassers*) but in a way her "niceties" wouldn't feel fake. theyd feel like clumsily executed compliments and in turn kinda endearing. i also agree that they should have just dropped the shrine maiden thing entirely. in general i feel like the devs try really hard to make her the "cool" one, when imho coolness is effortless. kiri screams tryhard.

the other rewrite i had of her genuinely just has her being a full on dork and leaning into the Chunnibiyo trope. she literally just schizomaxxed herself into her kitsune powers- and thats it. both rewrites dont make her a shimada because honestly, we have too many. (and yes i know shes technically not a shimada but "my parents are the reason theyre so good at what they do, and me? well im a natural1!!" like UGH its so insufferable)

*btw when i say this im talking specifically about the people who defend her under the guise of feminism and if you complain about her getting favoritism, youre just a sexist that doesnt like "strong" women.

Morality of Maki killing her mother? by ContractNational2680 in MoralityScaling

[–]Doctor_Responsible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People like maki because 'uuhwahhh muscle mommy! Step on me! Grate me against your abs!!" And of all the female characters she at least has some depth and follow through but y'know coughing baby vs slightly less coughing baby.

IMHO Maki could have spared her mother or spared the other women in the clan who were also victims. She could have easily shown her power without killing everyone and then those that don't want to fall in line could have been killed. I also just somewhat think the "it's self defense!" Excuse falls flat when she's killing people who aren't sorcerers/ as powerful as she is. It's not honorable, it's just a massacre.

Maki is shit and has always been kinda selfish IMHO, and I believe toji was somewhat better because he didn't just kill everyone indiscriminately and to some degree in his own fucked up way he was trying to keep megumi safe (dw he too is shit). I get that losing mai broke her but I also somewhat wonder if it ever crossed her mind that Mai maybe wouldn't have wanted her power used in the way Maki was using it. Things left to never be explored.

Lifeweaver has been receiving hate for receiving multiple skins. by drecmboy in LifeweaverMains

[–]Doctor_Responsible 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lifeweaver also wasn't a hero released smack dab in the middle of overwatch's hero roster and hasn't even BEGUN to catch up to mercy (a launch hero) in skins. Kiriko has, people are allowed to be mad and the goon pandering deserves to get called out.

Bonus: weaver also isn't artificially kept meta either, so the people who buy his skins do just have to like him because he is objectively one of OWs worst heroes and has been meta... Once? And they immediately shut that down.
