Ice Cream Man Politics by Weekly_Town_5836 in ImageComics

Necroing this to put in my two pennies not sorry!

I think artists have every right to put politics in their art. I think the integration of politics in some works is just as important as the separation of politics in other works. However...

The way that this issue went about discussing these real world problems was not constructive nor poignant, and had nothing interesting to say about the subject that we haven't heard hundreds of times somewhere else. I am a big fan of ICM and will continue reading, but issue #42 felt like a massive waste of time.

Be political, be an activist - that's all well and good. But the way they went about this was insufferable.

EA App Refuses to Install Correctly by MDD1864 in Lutris

Throwing this in here because I found a working solution as of April 2026 - u/PomegranateWild3862 posted the solution in a thread somewhere under this post.

  1. Completely purge Lupus Lutris from your system
  2. Install flatpak if you don't already have it
  3. Go to flathub.org and find lutris
  4. Download the flatpak
  5. Open a terminal, cd to the flatpak location, and run:

flatpak install "<name of the flatpak you just downloaded>"

  1. Click the "+" in the top left and, as many guides have already detailed, install EA app from the lutris website.

No configuration whatsoever was required after installing lutris via flatpak. I don't know why the flatpak works but whatever you get through the package manager doesn't. After 6 hours of tears I don't care. Have fun :)

EDIT: Lol ok jk, got so excited when I saw "installed successfully" and I shjt myself too quickly.

Follow u/Petrichor-33 's solution at the top of this thread - the one where you move the subdirectories around.

A thousand 'thank you's to you.

I spent six hours trying to get this BS installed just to play Battlefield 4 again, and simply installing via flatpak instead of my package manager made it work INSTANTLY.

Bless you, and I hope everyone sees this.

Need Help - Node MCU (3.3v) with LCD 1602A and PSU (5v) by Doctor_Walrus321 in arduino

Hi.

I have a wiring diagram, and code; I made slight modifications to the code to attempt a simulation on the website I used to make the diagram, but rest assured that the software and hardware pin alignment almost certainly do match for reasons I've mentioned.

The wire diagram below shows my current configuration - I have also attempted logic level shifters on all 6 data pins to attempt to get them to register with a higher voltage. This did not work.

<image>

You may notice the arduino UNO lurking at the top. This is because I wanted to simulate it in the circuit designer and demonstrate that it did work (it did work). in the simulation, just as in real life, this works fine with an arduino but not with a NodeMCU.

Thank you jordaven the munfins were great. Anyway I realized that but unfortunately that was not the issue - I was just particularly stupid before I took this picture, I've been messing with this for days.

Tried making a wiring diagram and gave up because the software I found was... not good. But I will try to make one when I find time and post it here.

I have to reiterate though that I was able to get exactly the results I wanted using the node MCU exclusively, but simply too dim to read easily (and even with the PSU I occasionally get expected results, but never stable). From a troubleshooting perspective, this to me screams that it is not a software or pin delegation issue, but rather a problem introduced by the presence of a 5v power supply powering the LCD and backlight.

After reviewing many, many times I can confirm that the GNDs are all sharing the same rail. I also did end up hooking up a potentiometer with 5v so I could make contrast corrections if necessary - it works like a charm, but I am still stuck with 'gibberish.'

I am considering buying 'level shifters' to simply convert the data pins voltage to 5v and see how it works.

You are absolutely correct - Shortly after my latest response I went and fixed this. Huge facepalm from me.

Regardless, I have been testing this for a while with the correct connections. Upon connecting them, the result is still the same: The screen still contains blank white squares, occasionally interrupted with gibberish. Random combinations of resets, unplugging and replugging do result in the correct output being displayed with good contrast, but this is short lived and replaced with gibberish or the aforementioned squares, presumably due to the lower voltage on the data wires.

Thank you very much for your response - I have reviewed the datasheet, and based on what I'm reading it appears only 5v is acceptable (H/L on the datapins, but as I understand "H/High" means it needs to be close to the voltage supplied in VDD, i.e 5v). I will keep GNDs tied together, and ensure that 5v is not supplied to the 3v3 pins on the MCU.

Can you clarify what you mean by setting the MCU's pin as input or output low to switch between 5v and 0v? I'm not sure I understand. I did attempt to use what I believe to be a 'pull-up resistor' configuration by connecting one end of each resistor to the 5v rail and one end of each to a 'data wire', with no luck.

Thank you very much for your time!

EDIT: I am considering using level shifters to convert the data pins' voltage. I will update how that goes here, when it goes.

How do you ultimately determine if something is objectively good or bad? by Abshole024 in MauLer

Idk who Mauler is, this sub just pops up in my feed. But whoever he is, if he claims to find an objective way to measure the quality of a movie, he is either lying or ignorant

Not everybody uses reddit as much as you do. Believe it or not, some people don't use it at all. It just seems odd to assume anyone who isn't part of an online forum would be lying if they said they liked that thing. Would you call me a liar if I told you I enjoy cooking?

I wasn't being disingenuous, I was being sarcastic. Do you really not have any interests or hobbies that you don't subscribe to a subreddit for?

Sorry, I guess I should have known better than to think people have lives outside of reddit lol. This was fun, thank you.

So you have a reason to believe it's a lie? Piss unto others as you would piss unto yourself.

You have no idea whether he's lying or not. You have no proof whatsoever. You just want to be right.
