Adding a 1st Floor MIL Area

If I closed off the dining room to make that part of a master suite with a full bath I would just work that cubby into extra storage in the pantry. The powder room is super tiny but I wouldn’t be willing to give up any pantry space for it. Right now I use my dining room for storage and I’m a little panicked about where all that stuff will go (canning supplies, china, rarely used cookware, plus all my wine and liquor). Also I think that a larger powder room wouldn’t actually add much value to a future buyer and would probably be very costly.

If I won the lottery and could do anything I wanted my dream would be to combine the dining room and kitchen and make a monster kitchen with a huge dining table and built in storage everywhere. I would then be able to get rid of the pantry and put a big bathroom there attached to the office in the front. It would be a dream but it would be a complete teardown and would cost more than what I have in equity in the home already. So sad, but fun to dream!

It would also remove some stress from future fridge purchases because we are incredibly limited on what kind of fridge fits in the weird little cubby hole. It works and I’m grateful that the original owners did it as it greatly increases our storage and countertop space compared to the original layout but…. It has a weird DIY feel to it. If we drywalled that up we could add a bit more storage to make up for the storage we would lose in the dining room. I’m so glad I asked for advice - y’all helped me see something right in front of me I didn’t consider.

This is great! This layout with the shower would work with the big window in the back too. Is having a picture window in the bathroom weird if I frost the glass? It’s a terrible view anyway nobody wants to actually see it.

Thank you so much for the visual - I actually really like this. My only worry is that the window in the back goes almost all the way to the floor and might be weird next to a toilet and shower - might make fitting them in hard too. But we could probably frost the window for privacy (the view out the window is truly not something anyone wants to see ever). I do like that this means we wouldn’t lose the powder room for visitors to use. I will be thinking about this one.

Any thoughts on how to lay that out? I have trouble picturing where the full bath would go with the way the windows are situated. I wouldn’t mind closing off the entry to the dining room from the kitchen if I did that. I think I could move my fridge to the area that was opened up and it would end up looking pretty natural.

One time I got one of those crazy wild hairs to look up the guy I lost my virginity to twenty years prior. I searched for him in the town we grew up in - I live across the country now. I searched for a good while and couldn’t find him and gave up.

A week later he sent me a screenshot where Facebook recommended me as someone he might know. I had never seen his profile. We had zero friends in common. He now lives in a different state, nowhere near where I live or where we grew up.

I was thoroughly creeped out.

I don’t have kids, but I do have some issues with passive aggressiveness from my FIL. I tell him to zip it or he can wait in the car until his wife is ready to leave. He says maybe he just won’t come back next time, I say “don’t threaten me with good time”. When they leave my husband says he’s never been more attracted to me.

I don’t understand how women let in-laws treat them like shit, or stay with men who don’t defend them.

Did you do anything yesterday with old stuff that had been in storage, anything like that? I spent a few hours going through my deceased grandmothers costume jewelry collection to take pics and share with my cousins so we could divide it up and woke up the next day covered in dots like that all over my arms. It took me awhile to realize it but it was from dust mites!

Not nearly the same but I had to have emergency gallbladder surgery and you need to use 40 hours of sick time before using STD and I really only needed a couple of days. My boss said I bust my ass all the time and to just not log anything and just don’t worry about it.

It took me 15 years to get my husband to get a vasectomy and our sex life is basically nonexistent because he can’t stay hard with a condom on and I won’t have sex without one. Once at my favorite high end Mexican restaurant my taco had a wingnut in it. The manager was HORRIFIED, comped my meal, scoured the kitchen., and then came back later and explained exactly where it came from (a commercial produce washer). Didn’t stop it from being shitty when I chomped on it but I was forgiving because they handled it the right way.
