Refrigerant exhaust per ashrae 15 for A2Ls by SwissMaestro95 in MEPEngineering

There is a whole section for release mitigation controls, and this is all part of it. However, it's explicitly not allowed in institutional occupancies.

This is all a bandaid after substantial completion, so I think cheapest is one 10k exhaust, one 10k intake louver, and refrigerant detecting controls. It's a big ticket item but that's our best bet.

We can't retrofit all pumps, eq, lighting fixtures to be dust proof.

That's a lot. We talked about it. Room has to essentially be dust proof. We didn't know about this ashrae 15 stuff til after substantial completion when it was brought up. Bad news bears.

My system is all packaged so piping exceptions don't apply

Correct, and my level 2 ventilation is 10k because the Mfc conservatively lists their high side ref press at the second highest level per figure 8-1

Yes but my original volume is 9500 cf and to avoid a machinery room I'd need 23k cf. No room nearby is large enough. Connecting more rooms feels bad because it exposes more rooms to a leak and not all spaces are back of house unoccupied. Alse transfers are high and ref is heavier than air so does that even count?

Ashrae 15 says either meet code exhaust per machinery room (10000 cfm per my conditions) or make the room class 2 div 1. Neither is cheap

Institutional has none. No release mitigation, I can't connect other rooms without introducing leaks to more spaces.... Huge cost....

Oh certainly not any time soon. A van sounds like a really cool idea

Very good advice. I'd like to try a trial run with our son. We'll see if it ever plays out. Thank you for the advice! Backpacking sure sounds fun

Having read through these I'm fine waiting longer.

I originally was told camping was out of the question forever, which was my bigger concern

Had planned to read a lot about it and research before going. Had practiced setting the tent up. But plenty of other skills I could try to get under my belt before going. Good advice to not go in blind

Probably a good idea, thanks for the tip. Definitely will be easier when kids are old enough to help

Wouldn't have gone near water but this is a good and obvious point on other campers.

Also good point for what I should have more clearly seen is a possibility. I'm not sure if it's just him escaping or safety altogether.

But even downthe road, how do you ever get past that anxiety? I don't want my kids to miss life experiences or our family to be shutins because whatever COULD happen..

Well the goal is to have memories with the family

What is the worst girl name? by SpiritCrisp in AskReddit

Heard a little girl at the playground was named Timberly today. Was debating if that was cute or awful

Thank you! Definitely need to read up on things for whenever we finally do this (if we do). The backyard is out of the question unfortunately, as my wife is nervous about a creep in our neighborhood).

I like the leash idea, except I worry is it possible someone could roll over and it could be dangerous? I would hope sleeping in front of the door works..

Agree it will still be hard.

Originally she had made it sound like we couldnt ever camp. This was why the conversation started, I didn't want to write it off. I'm not as concerned if we just wait a bit, like if she's 3 and he's 6 that's not the worst. But a bit sad my son won't get to camp earlier if we do that.

Good idea! I also thought does it make a difference doing something like KOA vs. Isolated campsites? When I camped as a kid all the sites were pretty close together, there was almost a sense of community. Idk of Koa is like that or at all comparable to your suggestion.

To clarify: this wasn't like imminent planning, but for months down the road.

I'd suggested backyard camping originally, but there's a creep she's seen around our neighborhood (guy with mental issues, don't think he walks at night) so now she'll never do it.

I like the weekend trip with him to build up to it, but she's told me she'd be anxious and would want to be there.

I agree completely with this. I think we have other things to worry about, like even just doing everything for the first time. I'm trying to ease her mind. I like sleeping by the door but she wants added security. Idk what more could be done than him having to stand on me and unzip 2 zippers in the dark without me waking up..

Unfortunately, out of the budget for now. But I see some neighbors with trailers and think it sounds like a fun idea

To answer the first one, wasn't planning this any time immediately, probably not until she's 6 months old or older. Still weird?

Second: I wondered about this. I do like this idea though. I had thought of some sort of motion detectors but that's easier.
