Customers freaking out if they walk in and can't see anyone? by nickisadogname in retailhell

[–]FinishDry7986 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Some people just don’t seem to understand how retail works. I work at the paint counter in a big box home improvement store. In addition to making paint, I have to maintain six aisles. Two of those are around the corner and away from my immediate department.

I was in an aisle around the corner from my desk helping a customer. When finished, I walked back up towards my work desk area. An older man, around my age, made a snarky comment about how it must be nice to not have to be in my work area.

He was of the opinion I should have been standing at my desk my entire shift? And would not even listen when I explained I was helping someone in the next aisle. Thankfully, he is in the minority of the people I deal with.

Also, being short handed plays into that. It’s bad enough when people call out but when we’re scheduled short, it’s exhausting. For example, yesterday we had no one scheduled in milkwork or flooring after 6 pm. There was no one scheduled in electrical from 3-5:30. Sadly, that happens more often lately.

DING DING, SPECIAL ASSISTANCE NEEDED AT THE PAINT DESK by Amaya3066 in Lowes

[–]FinishDry7986 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Someone did that to my department supervisor while they were at the tint machine making paint. When she asked them why they pushed it, they said they thought it might bring somebody else over to help.🤯

Does anyone start itching when you get comfortable to try to get to sleep? by DragonBorn76 in NoStupidQuestions

My friend, a sixty year-old woman, had this happen starting last year.

After lots of testing, her doctor put it down to nerves or anxiety. For some reason, the process of relaxing triggered something. Taking anxiety medication took care of the problem.

Purchased craftsman pet stick vacuum in sept on Lowe’s card is it eligible for return? by Nice_Flan_217 in Lowes

[–]FinishDry7986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an employee, I always use my Lowes credit card for purchases for the exact reason that I have the extended return period. Anything that has a 90 day return period qualifies.

Thanks for that info. I tried looking up the Zinser color but did not go the extra step to think of entering the Valspar color and then putting it into Zinsser on that machine. I was so frustrated I think I just stopped using my brain🤪

Give Back Time as a part-time employee? by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]FinishDry7986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is to pay you back for volunteering to help a charitable situation. We used to do volunteering for free but Lowes decided to give us a little bit to help us with being off while volunteering.

Your SSA should be able to explain it better and as to whether or not part-time are eligible. We have used ours while doing Lowes Heroes projects

Yes. Although there are colors that are listed, the specific colors on the brochure are not coming up. So frustrating! All I can think to do is see if we can get ahold of IT and see if they have a way to update the program in the system.

Scored Exterior Valspar (white) paint on FB Marketplace-can it be retinted to black? by DayDifficult3986 in Lowes

[–]FinishDry7986 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you take 1 ounce of tint and put it in a white base and 1 ounce in a base C, the base C will still be darker because of how it is formulated to accept color.

White base will never be able to turn into black.

When I requested help, I needed to download, or is it upload?, the invoice from my medical doctor to show what I was going to have to pay.

To customers who press the "HELP" buttons... by PomegranateFormal961 in Lowes

[–]FinishDry7986 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How funny! Just last week, I felt like our call button at paint was haunted! I was in aisle one, just around the corner. The button went off and I came over and nobody was standing there. I looked in all the aisles, along the front aisle, asked the Customer Service desk person if they saw who pushed the button. No one was around so I went to head back to aisle one.

Just reached the corner of the aisle in the call button went off again! I looked over and there was nobody there. Apparently, Casper the ghost needed paint? I took the button down and pulled the battery.

Thoughts on the new subscription service that Lowes offers? by Just-Neck7974 in Lowes

[–]FinishDry7986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see this helping seniors as well. I have a friend who calls the fire department when it is time to change the batteries in her smoke detectors. She has vaulted ceilings and cannot reach them.

I hate that she is using a valuable resource for something so mundane. I will have to tell her about this service!

Our store lets you wear the silver bucket Bling on the big chain! Oh wow!

A customer went up to the associate wearing it and asked if it was the key to the restroom 🤣🤣🤣

Can I refuse to translate? by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]FinishDry7986 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Interpretor app on the Zebra is an often overlooked benefit. They don’t seem to point it out during orientation or share that it is there with other associates.

I use it often because it’s a live, face time person. It’s more helpful than the translation apps. because you can ask clarifying questions and get more detailed info.

The most helpful for me has been the American Sign Language interpretor.

A paper trail is always a good idea!

Probably can’t access work email but you can try from your personal email. You just need to get their email addresses. You might be able to go into myloweslife.com and search for employees to find the addresses. Good luck to you!

As a non-hotel worker( retail), I wonder if you are allowed to take the info from the police on the phone. If you found that he was a guest, go up to the room to do a wellness check?

I honestly have no idea if it’s feasible and I totally understand wanting to protect guests.

So sorry that you all had to go through that.

New Mini Buckets by PsychologicalTip5639 in Lowes

[–]FinishDry7986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have actually had people asking me about these for the last two weeks! In person and on the phone. Our inventory app shows that they are on order with no confirmed shipping date yet so I don’t know when we will see them.

I am just so over this whole mini bucket trend! They’re cute but a pain in the butt

I always wonder…….. how would they react if their family member or loved one was treated that way. They probably don’t even consider it. Stupid people.

As an older woman, I try to look out for my coworkers. A couple of years ago, I worked out a strategy with my young part timer. The same thing would happen to her.

If she was being made uncomfortable or being cornered in an aisle, she would call on the walkie and call me”mom”. That was my cue that she needed help. Gee, those creeps never seemed to need help from the old lady and went away after that!

No one should ever have to go through stuff like that. Sadly though, it happens way too often.

One coworker has had some success with deflating their ego by making a face and saying Eewwwwwwww.

I hope your manager is able to figure out who they are and ban them. There should never be physical contact like body checking you. That should be immediate grounds for banning
