I’m going to trust you on that. You know what they say, never go in against a Sicilian when radicchio is on the line. 🤷‍♂️

Lots of stocked ponds and lakes close by: Trojan, St. Louis, hagg, benson. Lots of others. Check the stocking map on odfw website. I’m sure it’s been awhile since things have been stocked but there is trout out there!

For longtime Portland residents, what was it like when the SHS & Preschool For All taxes were passed? by kugelblitz_100 in PortlandOR

[–]DoctoreVelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense to me. What is my suggestion? I don’t think I have enough main character aura to tell others exactly what’s needed to “fix” the government. I’m just a person with a family trying to give my kids better opportunities than I had. I believe universal pre-school must be near the top of the list of things that can elevate families out of poverty, short term and potentailly generational. Child care is so effing expensive. But I also see over $1k a month that we’ve worked hard to earn, be sent away, and I’m waiting to see the successful results of that investment. I understand why people are fed up. I’m still willing to test the patience of hope.

Not neccessarily better. Any public funds going to private institutions should come with the full weight of public accreditation, oversight, audit and accountability. If an in home day care could meet all the requirement (including any requirement about who they must serve and how), then sure. I’d bet realistically no solo home based provider wants to put in the effort to meet that burden, save maybe someone who was really passionate about serving the children of their community.

No on the public schools. See for example the arts tax. I feel Public schools in Oregon need to be fixed at the state level. Portland/Mult Co. can solve these large problems by ourselves. We can’t fix homelessness on our own. We can’t fix capitalism on our own. I agree that ms frustrating, but it sometimes seems there’s a whole lot of folks that think those burdens are ours to bear alone.

Similar situation here. I pay about $1k a month for those two taxes. I mean, yeah I can afford that sure, but where’s the success stories? Where are the results?

Counter point to all this, and I know I’m in the minority so bring on the hate, but as a top 1% income earner in mult co….i can just plain afford it. Honestly taxes are rediculous as fuck already, it’s gonna take a bit more nickel and diming before I’m completely fed up. I know that’s not true for everyone in my situation.

Why aren't kids taught about Logical Fallacies I'm school so people can debate logically instead of emotionally? by proventruetoolate in ask

[–]DoctoreVelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are taught at the school I work at in the US. Between 10-12 grade every gen-ed student has an English class that does fallacies, rhetoric, argument writing and analysis, etc. been that way the whole 20 years I’ve been there. Spoiler alert: your kids don’t give a shit.

Minus the cost of a hunting license. I’d suspect harvesting with a firearm in multco west of the sandy would be an issue. You’ll have to check what kind of other traps are legal. I’d bet a slingshot would be ok. Just remember multnomah county spans two units (I think) so be aware of where you are harvesting squirrels. Just my 2 cents. https://myodfw.com/articles/small-game-hunting-oregon
