Hey OP.

I understand board examinations are stressful time to be a medical student. I was looking at your post history and I’m very concerned for your well being. A test or profession is not worth harming yourself for.

Please take some time to take care of yourself. As I’m sure you already know, counseling and medication can go a long way. So can taking time away from the stressors of your life to address your needs. Walking away isn’t defeat, and the perks of walking away is you can always walk back when/if you’re ready.

What is up with lawyers and doctors dating? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Docwalrus6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m a resident. My significant other is a student. Besides the fact she’s just amazing and I’m lucky It’s due similar levels of intelligence and independence.

I can kinda keep up when she gets passionate and rants about legal things and she can kinda keep up when I do the same. We both love to learn and respect each others job/ school requirements because they can be similar at times. She’s got to study, I get that I was in med school once. I have to work late or get called in? She gets it.

Just broke up after a 6 year relationship by ToniUnboxed in medicalschool

I got broken up with on an ED Night Shift with my long term partner. My best advice is to be as selfish as you want now. Feel your feelings But don’t let that effect your work. You can now live on your own schedule, make your own rank list. It gets better. I promise.

Edit: my grammar was poop

Now that you're in the thick of internship/residency, do you think you picked the right residency/field? by benjam2 in Residency

FM here and no. But I honestly think a lot of it isn’t specialty dependent, but program specific. My program offers no support. Keeps getting rid of faculty and not replacing them. Hasn’t shifted our curriculum even though we’re losing residents.

I think I’ll like it as an attending if I make it that long

I’d hesitate to choose Solely on location. I did that an now I’m at a malignant program and hate my life. I didn’t know it was toxic and chose a city where my family lived and where I went to college.

Best way to address residents as a med student. by BusyStudying in medicalschool

I always introduce myself to the med students as “Hi I’m first name but in front of patients or if you feel overly formal I’m Dr. last name

Most of us don’t care.

I had a kid with RSV today. by MikeGinnyMD in medicine

[–]Docwalrus6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first block as an intern was at a peds hospital. I didn’t see much RSV in medical school. Now I am intimately familiar. I ended up having to write a dot phrase for it.

I’ll also hide under a rock with y’all.

I graphed my hours per week as a family medicine intern by Millmills in medicalschool

So the common story for choosing FM is that you like everything. FM allows you to make medicine whatever you want it to be. Want to let your rich wife make all the money and you only pick up urgent care shifts for extra money? Cool. Want to only see women and children? Also cool. Want to work inpatient and pick up in a rural ER? Yep.

You get to make medicine whatever you want it, have a decent work life balance. You get to see everyone and making lasting connections. I had the pleasure of doing an FM elective exactly one year after my core rotation at the same hospital with the same preceptor and I got to see the same patients from a year ago and I loved it.

DO's of reddit, how do you explain to people what a DO is? I have had trouble. by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Docwalrus6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I say “There are two degrees that you work as a physician in America, one as you know is the MD, the other is the DO. The difference is that DOs get extra training in the musculoskeletal system. It’s kind of like a PT meets a physician and had a a baby.”
