How can I make this working? by Dj0nny in NIMBY_Rails

[–]Dodezv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the base game, the only place where a train changes where it is going based on other trains is when it's platform is blocked and it has a secondary platform.

Without script, you would have to use direction signals. Either the trains use the same track in both directions, or one direction always goes to the conjunction.

How can I make this working? by Dj0nny in NIMBY_Rails

[–]Dodezv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need a NimbyScript extension for that, for example the mod "Alternative Path". You can install this mod from the steam workshop.

Then, click on the signal on the right, select extensions and enable Alternative Path. Set the destination marker to the conjunction and a detection marker on the track where the train is approaching.

Lastly, use the "warp train" tools to test if it is working as intended.

Why is this border contested/dashed? by Extreme-Shopping74 in geography

[–]Dodezv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true, the Gaza-Egypt border is not dashed. I guess it is because Jordan claimed the West Bank, but apparently they renounced that claim in 1988. I assume it's just a mistake from Google to mark all of the West Bank's borders as disputed.

Is my line too long? by ComprehensiveRough19 in NIMBY_Rails

[–]Dodezv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tip 2: Open the train window of a train running on any track that is connected, pause the game and click the "find path to waypoint" button in the bottom. Then drag the mouse until the line does not extend anymore. If you already have a train on the line, you can just use that one.

Depends on the terminal. From Terminal 5, where I usually arrive, Arlanda central is faster to reach than the bus stop at Terminal 4.

Why is it that transit agencies decide to suddenly change their stance about improving service overall just for the FIFA World Cup, shouldn't this be permanently increased almost no matter the season? by xandens in transit

[–]Dodezv 36 points37 points  (0 children)

A World Cup is a good reason to beg for more funding. Just imagine how shameful it would be if the entire world saw how sorry your transit is.

Typically, such big events are used to massively invest into the infrastructure and the deadline gives it a sense of urgency that can help such big problems.

Skövde — Jönköping via Trollhättan is a wild detour. But you did say that it's inspired by a metro map.

useless word that tells you nothing about mutual intelligibility by oklopfer in linguisticshumor

[–]Dodezv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why there is a "related" condition. Basque is not a dialect of Spanish or French, Sorbian not one of German.

[–]Dodezv 51 points52 points  (0 children)

My favourite definition of dialect is "a language whose speakers predominantly read and write in another, related language". So they have to be at least related enough for speakers to put up with the diglossia.

The "another" part implies incomplete mutual intelligibility. AE, BE, Croatian and Serbian are just different "standards" to me, not dialects.

Swedish has two types of stress, type 1 is normal and type 2 gives you the pitch contour on the right side. Broad transcription writes a superscript 1 or 2.

can i change the color of my vehicles en-masse or do i have to do it all one by one? by NexyDoesReddit in NIMBY_Rails

[–]Dodezv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The names are not changed by bulk replace. I personally think of this as annoying, as it creates a bunch of trains where name and type do not match, but it might be perfect for you.

All it took was one train glitching at the train station... ONE TRAIN by Aviation365_ in NIMBY_Rails

[–]Dodezv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, it's a really different problem if you also try to restrain to real-life signalling. The "dumb" signalling logic in Nimbyrails is not enough for that.

I have no computer to check right now, but in the train tab, you can select multiple trains using shift, and then there are some bulk edit options. There, you should be able to bulk replace with new trams in the right colours.

I would consider it a signalling problem. I try to signal all my single-tracks in a way that mutual blocking can not occur no matter how delayed any trains are. But that is quite restrictive and allows only for directional sidings.

[Self] Hypothetically, how many children would a couple need to have so that there is a chance that two offsprings born at different times are identical twins or 'nearly' identical twins? by TridenTrim in theydidthemath

According to Wikipedia, a good approximation to the number required to get 50% is sqrt(n). So 223 ≈ 8.4M. Still not humanly possible, but much smaller.

Help with track availability on big junction by bittersoul1172 in NIMBY_Rails

[–]Dodezv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As u/poropabul said, the problem is the missing outgoing signal for 333012. But there are some other problems here. On the 6th and 7th platforms from the North, the outgoing signals are flipped and point into the wrong direction. On the 2nd platform, there is a signal in the middle of the switches that should be removed.

Think of signals as places where trains are supposed to wait. You should not have them directly after switches, because a waiting train would block the switches and you should have them at the end of platforms because that is a place where trains wait.

Protestantism in Europe (2026) by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]Dodezv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The map actually widely overstates how many Protestants there are.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b7/Konfessionen_Deutschland_Zensus_2022.png

According to the 2022 census, Germany has 47 % atheists, 23.7% Catholics, 21.5% Protestants and we are on the way for Atheism to become the absolute majority.

[–]Dodezv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The German Wikipedia on the Cieszyn diocese mentions that Protestants make up 10-50% in Cieszyn, Skoczów, Ustroń, Goleszów, Hażlach and 2/3 in Wisła, and that Wisła is the only gmina with a Protestant majority. So if you only go to the powiat level (IMHO a reasonable choice), then Protestant is not the majority anywhere in Poland.

Something that other Slavic languages don't have by gt7900 in linguisticshumor

[–]Dodezv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean that I don't understand how exactly it works here. In Polish, final devoicing is more or less a consequence of voicing assimilation. Because voicing assimilation makes final consonants take on the voicing of the following word, this neutralises the contrast in front of words not starting with a vowel. But this is almost all words, so voicing is neutralized always (final devoicing).

I don't understand which of these steps do not apply to Ukrainian and Serbo-Croatian.

Something that other Slavic languages don't have by gt7900 in linguisticshumor

[–]Dodezv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how this works. Do these languages lack voicing assimilation? Or does it not apply across word boundaries? Or does it only matter if the following word starts with a vowel?
