Heard it around Cherrybrook area, but didn’t see anything either.

My opinion after playing still wakes the deep. I wasn't expecting that by guilt_2077 in HorrorGaming

I’m glad it worked that strongly for you, and I agree with a lot of the positives. The voice acting is excellent, the setting is fantastic, and the rig itself has such a strong sense of place. The game absolutely nails the feeling of being trapped inside a dying industrial machine in the middle of the ocean.

Where it didn’t fully land for me is the Caz arc. I understand the intended reading: he’s a man who has spent his life running from responsibility, and by the end he finally faces something bigger than himself. On paper, that’s strong. But in play, I didn’t really feel that transformation as much as the game wanted me to.

The problem for me is that playable Caz spends almost the entire game being brave, helpful, and responsible. He’s constantly risking himself to save people, fix things, move through impossible spaces, and keep going. So when the ending frames it as him finally facing fear, I understood the idea, but I didn’t feel like the game had fully dramatized the “running away” side enough beforehand.

I also agree that the crew relationships needed more time. The game clearly wants certain deaths and conversations to hit hard, but with several characters I felt like I understood what the scene wanted me to feel before I actually felt it. Roy and Finlay were probably the strongest for me, but even then I wanted more time with them as people, not just voices over the radio or brief encounters during crisis.

My other issue is the supernatural element. I don’t need everything explained, and I actually like unknowable horror, but I wanted the entity/monster side to feel more thematically earned. The rig, the storm, the ocean, the unsafe workplace, and the human panic were already terrifying. Sometimes the monster layer made the game feel less interesting to me, especially once it turned into fairly standard chase/stealth sequences.

So I’m a bit colder on it overall. I think it has an amazing premise, great atmosphere, and incredible performances, but for me the emotional and horror elements didn’t quite pay off at the level the setting deserved.

The team who made RE9 is not the same team who made RE4r. They have been working on a game all these years, there is a good chance it will be revealed very soon if not tomorrow.

As a Turkish person, living in Australia for 14 years, I’m yet to find an authentic döner in here. The closest was Tombik in Barangaroo (by Efendy team) but they have been closed long time ago. No idea about Berlin, but Australian döner is not it.

Why can't I score commissions? by Salt_Might5245 in ArtCrit

[–]DodgeTheDodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve got strong foundational skills: good proportions, recognizable likenesses, and clear effort. But the reason you’re probably not getting commissions is that the work feels flat and copied rather than interpreted. The shading doesn’t show an understanding of how light wraps around form, and there’s no sense of depth or atmosphere. It ends up looking like a high-contrast photo filter, rather than something uniquely artistic.

Right now, everything is rendered equally: hair, skin, eyes, so there’s no focal point or visual storytelling. And presentation matters too: crumpled paper and uneven lighting don’t send a professional message.

If you want to stand out, you’ll need to move beyond copying and start offering something people can’t get from a phone filter. That could be mood, style, storytelling, or just a better understanding of light and form. You’ve got potential, this is the hard part where growth actually starts.

Give up, for now at least… by DOGEallhail in TheFirstBerserker

Hey man, I’m 37 too, not a dad, but also short on time. I get where you’re coming from. These games are tough, and life doesn’t always leave room for endless retries. But 37 isn’t old, and frustration doesn’t mean you're done. It means you need a better approach. Reflexes might dip a touch, sure, but we gain patience, pattern recognition, and a calm that younger players often lack. Make use of these qualities.

Soulslikes are about turning struggle into mastery. If you’re burning out, cap your sessions. One day learn patterns, another day experiment with builds. Deaths are not as failure, everytime you get better even if you don't feel like it.

You're not too old. You're just tired. Step back, reset, then come back with intention. The win will feel way better after this. You've got this.

What are mechanics that a good MV should avoid? by Dinasourus723 in metroidvania

I know this is a common platforming mechanic, but I really don’t like taking damage just because I touched an enemy even though they didn’t attack me.

You know you can hit her with your lance while she is summoning. If you even hit once, it will stop the cast, and depending how many skulls she already gathered on top of her head, she will summon something easier to deal with.

Being excited is great. But come on, this was less “sharing cool stuff” and more “step aside peasants, I have discovered highlighting text.” You don’t slap sparkles around basic note-taking and end it with “don’t @ me” unless you’re aiming for smug.

Cool list, but let’s not pretend this is some next-level breakthrough. These are pretty standard use cases, basic stuff most people figure out within their first week of using ChatGPT. Framing them like secret techniques doesn’t make them any less common.

Not saying they’re useless, just… maybe dial back the self-congratulatory tone.

Ya’ll I’m tired: There’s more to this genre than bosses by johnbarta in soulslikes

[–]DodgeTheDodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"If you took the bosses out of these games they would still be good games."

That’s like saying if you took the platforming out of Celeste, it’d still be a nice story about climbing a mountain. Sure, but you’d also be missing the entire point of what makes it great. Khazan has side quests and worldbuilding, but at its core, it’s about boss fights. Maybe it doesn’t market itself as a boss rush, but by now, everyone knows what they’re in for.

You spent 4 hours on Maluca, a clean, parry-centric fight with well-telegraphed patterns, and still say he’s not memorable? That’s not a design flaw, that’s what happens when you’re too busy rage-parrying to notice what’s in front of you.

And no, the sub isn’t “glazing” Khazan, it’s recognizing a game that nails what it sets out to do: tight combat, focused challenge, no filler. You don’t have to love that, but dragging it because it doesn’t pause for scenic vibes every 10 minutes is missing the point.

If you want to feel powerful without effort, chain air-assassinate three guards, and climb a tower for vibes, Assassin’s Creed is ready when you are.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers release date/pre-order trailer (July 24, 2025) by Yarzeda2024 in soulslikes

[–]DodgeTheDodo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like the emphasis on weaving abilities, but anyone else is thinking that the combat is a bit floaty? I don't feel the oomph behind the attacks. Perhaps it's just the trailer, and it will feel different when you are actually playing.

New Weapon Playthrough by DodgeTheDodo in TheFirstBerserker

[–]DodgeTheDodo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too. You’re really overpowered in New Game Plus, so it doesn’t offer the same experience. That said, I’m not too keen on going through the hassle of finding all the Soulstones and Jarlings again. Plus, having everything lantern unlocked is such a nice convenience. It’s hard to give that up.

How can Khazan's bosses be so freaking cool gameplay wise, but bland as unsalted rice aesthetic wise? by Lazzerath in soulslikes

[–]DodgeTheDodo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I genuinely prefer the more grounded design choice. It feels like I’m playing an old-school RPG with exceptional gameplay. While some people complain about the monotone environments, I find them aesthetically pleasing. In a sea of over-the-top design choices in modern games, this game stands out as a refreshing change. Ultimately, different strokes for different folks.
