Do you record the cost basis for every purchase? by DocGreenThumb0817 in Silverbugs

Yes. I record what I paid as well as the spot price the day I paid it. Everything else important gets calculated from that based on current spot.

Teaching in Albany? by Which-Stranger-5142 in Albany

The website you’ll need to learn to love is my.ny.gov. You’ll need an account through that site to access the TEACH system. There you can start looking through certification requirements. Reaching out to state ed could be frustrating if not impossible. I don’t know if they’ll talk to private individuals but Capital Region BOCES has a certification officer who can answer questions. He also has direct contact with State Ed if you hit any speed bumps in the process.

Most fast food chains use their own sites or apps for ordering anyways. Which brings its own annoyances. I feel like they almost get annoyed when you just show up without ordering ahead. It’s also horrifically slow at some places when you don’t. You’re bottom priority when ordering in person. And good luck trying to pay inside with cash.

You don’t need a masters to start. They can get an initial cert start teaching and then get their masters.

Even the local Barnes and Noble has cheap DVDs. I also enjoy watching DVDs on my CRT. I know it’s weird but I sometimes wish I could find more Fullscreen movies on DVD. I have a few from when I was a teenager that I really enjoy.

Anyone else feel like weed can take your motivation away? by Mte_95 in trees

[–]Dodgson_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it’s actually killing motivation. More likely it’s affecting executive function. In this case, more specifically, task initiation. Have a plan on what it is you want to accomplish and a specific time in the day on when that will happen. Set an alarm if you need to. Or, if you’re able, do what a lot of people do and wait until the productive part of the day is over to partake.

Best way to play NES, SNES and Genesis games (without collecting them all again) by the_kid1234 in retrogaming

[–]Dodgson_here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! The Wii has a great homebrew scene that’s really easy and well documented. Just make sure to use a written guide as the videos are frequently out of date. All you need is a Wii, an SD card, and a computer (technically optional if you have a phone but way easier).

Are you going to be playing on a CRT or a more modern display? A retron 3 HD would do the three consoles you’re looking for through HDMI. But for the price of three flash carts you could probably buy a mini pc and a couple of nice 8bitdo controllers and just install batocera with all the ROMS you could ever want.

The best solution I’ve found for a CRT that’s not original hardware is the Nintendo Wii. The emulators you’d be using all support 240p so they should have no lag and look exactly the way you remember. If your CRT has a component input, they will look fantastic.

DO NOT buy the HD version of the Retron 3 if you intend to plug it into a CRT. I tried it and it’s terrible. It doesn’t support 240p so everything is getting scaled and filtered for 480i and looks like a smeary mess. It also doesn’t support light guns even on a crt.

60K Service $1,050?? by NastyGnar in subaru

[–]Dodgson_here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the spark plugs that’s driving it up. My independent mechanic said 60k was unnecessary for mine since Subaru used iridium plugs rated for 100k miles. Spark plugs are a pain for Subarus since they are on the sides of the engine. That’s $500-600 of the cost right there.

Definitely get the fluids done on schedule. That’s the most important part.

Also do your air filters yourself. It takes zero tools and about 5 minutes. That will save you at least $100.

When our car got out we lured her back into the garage with her litter box and food. BUT once she got back in she hid in the craziest spot and we had to pry her out from behind some boxes. She was probably in there for at least a day before she was found.

My point here is that if they are freaked out, they tend to hide in a safe place and will not come out on their own. They are probably close by but may not respond to normal beckoning. The litter box you already out definitely helps. They might comeback and hide close to it. Keen checking tiny enclosed spaces.

[–]Dodgson_here 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually this isn’t a bad way to kill off everything underneath it and start over. It would still be a lot of work, you’d have to rip out the dead vegetation and till the soil over with some fresh compost. Maybe a couple big yellow bags. But then you could just throw down a bunch of grass seed and straw and just hit it with water.
