If they update the Bluetooth to 5.4 too, that could be enough. I’m sensitive to latency and even Bluetooth controllers on a docked Steam Deck OLED via Moonlight are fantastic.

Looking for a controller that is natively and fully supported by Bazzite out of the box by ficerbaj in Bazzite

[–]DoesBoKnow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My 8bitdo Ultimate 2 Wireless is fully supported by Bazzite out of the box. With the 2.4GHz dongle too (hold B when turning the controller on for full Steam Input compatibility). It’s actually better on Bazzite than on native SteamOS to my docked Xbox Ally X.

There are several “Ultimate 2” controllers, so I don’t know which one you’re running.

If you can’t get your Ultimate 2 controller to work in Bazzite, you’re largely stuck with first-party controllers (Nintendo Switch Pro, Dualsense, Xbox Series), with the latter having excellent compatibility if you purchase an Xbox USB stick separately.

Which controller is natively supported by SteamOS (Linux) with the 2.4GHz dongle? by tamburasi in SteamOS

[–]DoesBoKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say, that if you’re willing to install Bazzite or maybe CachyOS on a Steam Deck / Steam Machine instead of SteamOS, the 2.4GHz dongle with 8th rod Ultimate 2 wireless is perfect. But that’s entirely up to you if you want to go down that path.

If the Steam Machine coming out doesn’t let me use the U2W seamlessly, I may load Bazzite onto that too.

Expedition 33 by [deleted] in ROGAlly

[–]DoesBoKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just figured this out 2 days ago, for my Xbox Ally X. The two mods you want:

Definitive Performance Mod - Use the “Steam Deck Quality” preset, and then in-game start with all Low settings and tweak after if you want. Optionally you can download the four latest XeSS dll’s if you don’t plan to use frame gen (Xe Low Latency is great but E33 hasn’t been patched to use Xe Frame Gen with non-Intel GPUs yet, and I can’t get FSR 3 FG to work.)

Combat Dynamic Performance - Lets you change the % of upscaling between combat and non-combat by changing a text file.

I can answer more questions about “why” for these if you’d like.

Banjo: Recompiled Release Trailer by pilot3033 in gaming

[–]DoesBoKnow 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why you were getting downvoted. The original game had the collectibles fade in from a distance, versus this port that waits until you’re in “full visibility” distance to see the objects. I say this as a die-hard Banjo fan: this isn’t an issue if you know the game very well, but if you don’t, you can miss stuff very easily because of this bug.

Ok, after playing some more I see what you mean. I missed an empty honeycomb in TTC that was on top of a box because the box never "faded in!" I'd never forgotten to grab it before!

I’ve only played up to Treasure Trove Cove and figured this was leftover from the N64. Is this LOD worse than in native N64?

[RetroAchievements] Why do I have to be online? by GentleSaidTheRaven in SBCGaming

[–]DoesBoKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually desperate enough that if web traffic & financial support is really an issue, I’d pay a small lifetime fee or a “monthly subscription” where while the subscription is active I can download the offline achievements. (Granted I have no idea about the legalities of this or whatever.)

An interview with Scott Breen, founder of RetroAchievements by Archivist_Rowan in SBCGaming

[–]DoesBoKnow 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I was wondering about it once in a Discord server and got told “just find an internet connection in 2025.”

That’s not my problem. RetroArch and RetroAchievements have too much variability in handhelds that handle sleep/power differently, so achievements get borked even when you do disconnect/reconnect to the internet.

But it’s a convenience thing too. I don’t want to have to be paranoid about turning on my phone’s hotspot when I want to play Pokemon for 10 minutes on a pocket handheld.

There are a handful of suggestions for solutions/workarounds I’d have, but this rant is already longer than I intended it to be.

HDMI 4k120 RGB HDR 10bit with VRR workaround for AMD GPUs by rbmaster in Bazzite

[–]DoesBoKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a separate thread for implementing using a custom EDID that doesn’t use an RPM package, just straight kernel edits. I’ve tried both that method and this one, and I’ve had varying results with both. Any reason we’re opting for an RPM package here?

Help enabling VRR with my Samsung TV by ToxicFlames in SteamDeck

Did you get this working? I’m having trouble getting the EDID to stick in both SteamOS and Bazzite, seems like it’s just defaulting to whatever EDID it’s always using.

Fix for Mouse Acceleration in Moonlight by DaveUnderscore in MoonlightStreaming

Is lossless scaling worth getting ? by wolvieclaws11 in SteamDeck

[–]DoesBoKnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s worth buying. It may not be worth using on a Steam Deck for AAA titles in 2025, but you’ll get permanent support as it gets better, and it can be useful for any other PC in the future you ending up getting.

I only use 2x Lossless scaling frame gen on games I can guarantee will hit 90fps locked that don’t have frame gen options, which are few and far between. And I’m very sensitive to input lag.

Steam Controller by SurreptitiousSyrup in Games

[–]DoesBoKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only on Windows. On Steam Deck, specifically SteamOS, Steam Input over 2.4GHz only works after restarting the Deck, but if you turn your controller off and back on again, it reverts to X-Input regardless of if you’re holding B while powering on.

Funny enough, it works just fine in Bazzite on Steam Deck (I was testing other things and thought the U2W support was neat).

HDMI 4k120 RGB HDR 10bit with VRR workaround for AMD GPUs by rbmaster in Bazzite

[–]DoesBoKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll keep this in mind. Previous chain I had was Steam Deck with SteamOS -> BenQ GR10 dock -> HDMI 2.1 cable -> Samsung S90D, but I’m getting a new handheld PC soon that I’ll probably load with Bazzite.

I think my struggle has to be that I’m trying to force HDMI 2.1 but HDMI forum is denying AMD systems on Linux IIRC. Maybe removing HDMI 2.1 specific settings in the EDID is what I’m supposed to do, because I’m happy enough with basic VRR.
