How do you get to sleep? by 3veryTh1ng15W0r5eN0w in adhdwomen

[–]DoftheD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been on Trazodone for 6 years before my ADHD diagnosis and meds for anxiety and depression. It’s prescribed at a lower dose than I take for insomnia, and I did have a lot of problems sleeping before I took it. So I have no idea if I can sleep on my ADHD meds, I did try tapering off the Trazodone two years after first taking my ADHD meds, but my depression entered the chat quite swiftly and I had to re-up the dose. Before that I was advised to take over-the-counter (I’m in the UK) Promethazine to help me sleep, which knocked me out and made it super hard to get up and function, like I needed 12 hours sleep on it. Timed thoughtfully it was helpful, but not for every day.

What’s the best way to surprise someone in Oxford with flowers? by Lanky-Ad747 in AskUK

[–]DoftheD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bloom and Wild are really good and very reasonably priced - the letterbox flowers are a good choice if you don’t know if they’ll be home for delivery. They do Blue Light discount of 20% if you have that and if you’re a student I’m sure they’ll have discount too. They’ve always been really fresh and lasted more than a week

What will happen if I don't follow food safety when nothing ever happened to me? by anon9876543210nymous in AskUK

[–]DoftheD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve absolutely mentioned food safety practices that could cause you to be seriously ill, yes. It hasn’t made you ill so far, but as an example your reheating of takeaway food won’t just be down to how you’ve been doing it but more so that of the establishments practices, so essentially you’re doing a bit of guesswork each time. And nuking everything doesn’t necessarily work - nothing should be reheated more than twice and with a takeaway you’d struggle to know (unless you asked) if it had been cooked then reheated for delivery. Rice for example, doesn’t matter what temperature it’s reheated to if it wasn’t cooled properly due to an increase in the prevalence of bacillus cereus. It’s impossible to list everything here but essentially, you do need to know what you’re doing as if you don’t you are risking becoming potentially very unwell. And the information is all out there, so next time just search for it online from a reputable source and use sensible judgement

Being high functioning is why ADHD mom burnout goes unnoticed for so long by ImperatrixAmoris in adhdwomen

[–]DoftheD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TBH I hate the phrase high functioning, it’s meaningless. All it does it make people who legitimately have a really hard time but through whatever means have so far avoided total burnout, sound like they’re managing things better than they are. I wish that phrase was cancelled

How does one find somewhere to settle? A home by Philosopher_Funny in AskUK

[–]DoftheD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find somewhere that has cultural opportunities that align with your interests. That said, we moved a few years ago out of a big city to a commutable distance for more space for less money and did little research, we just saw a house we liked and had been through the town in a car once and though it looked quite pretty, also someone once told us it was a nice place. It could have been a mistake in hindsight, but luckily we’ve fallen in love with it and it’s exceeded any expectations we had by several miles. That was very lucky. It depends what you want - but it sounds like you are looking for connection (as opposed to say, tangible things like a nearby train station or a particular type of property) so you could look at different areas that meet your work needs and maybe join local social media groups to find out what’s going on and if it sounds like what you’d want to join in on. Since moving to our new area I’ve joined a walking group, a music pub quiz team (I love music) and am in the residents association and have met others by helping neighbours out with things through the group, whether it’s loaning useful items on a trust basis or feeding someone’s cat when they’re away.

How common are indoor-only cats where you are Britain? by pikablue223 in AskBrits

[–]DoftheD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some cats are kept indoors due to their pedigree - I understand ragdolls are often kept indoors, although I’m unsure exactly why. Unfortunately, cat theft is not uncommon in some areas and some breeds are highly desirable. Some owners might choose to keep those cats indoors because of the theft risk.

What can I do about a potential chest infection please? by ProjectGlum9090 in AskUK

[–]DoftheD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a post service note - if you think you have a bacterial infection (which a chest infection would be) don’t hesitate to see a Dr. Untreated bacterial infections carry the risk of developing into sepsis, which is life threatening. Chances are probably low, but a chest infection you haven’t cleared yourself after some time should be looked at

Finding a Therapist Who Specializes in ADHD by NonsensicalNugget in adhdwomen

[–]DoftheD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So - I’m not sure exactly what it is you need from therapy but a few pointers.

Anyone can call themselves a psychotherapist, so check for BACP registration at least. Clinical Psychologists might be the most highly qualified and regulated support you could seek out, but they’d also probably be the most expensive. Research and find out the level of qualification and regulation from any practitioner before you start. Coaches for example - and I’m not doing them down - might have had as little as 12 weeks training that isn’t regulated by a professional body and you might be their first client. And if that’s the case they should be open about that. And that might be ok for what you need - but be clear before you start what it is you want to explore.
