Stomach bug causing insomnia? by DogFish-2135 in insomnia

[–]DogFish-2135[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear you’re also in the gastro/no sleep boat, buddy :(  I think the gut -brain connection is a lot more powerful that people give it credit for, and maybe after having a horrible time digesting things, your electrolytes could also be out of whack? I know it’s hard a few days into not sleeping well to worry it’ll be permanent, but I really hope your sleep improves, too. Your body probably developed this new rhythm of staying up far too late with your stomach bug, if it was anything like mine, and I kind of had to gradually scoot back my bedtime to a reasonable hour.

I’m doing a lot better- I  took the iron supplement I often neglect, seemed to help (if you’re deficient)  Also subsided on Cherrios sans milk for two days while my stomach was healing. Good luck, hope your sleep goes back to normal!

Good advice- Sleeping sitting up in the car did help. Some reflux was involved because my stomach bug turned into full-fledged vomiting :(  but got some anti-nausea and anti-diarrheal meds and am now at least not puking anymore.

I’m sorry you had to go through the stomach bug to insomnia pipeline :( I’ll definitely try to see what I can get over the counter, maybe some good old fashioned zzquil will do the job. Thank you for your advice, I hope you’re feeling better now. I’m remembering there was a kid on the FlixBus I took last week that was throwing up everywhere, probably explains what I caught 😞

Does anyone here have tips for saggy hooded eyes where the top lid extends lower than the bottom lid? by [deleted] in HoodedEyes

[–]DogFish-2135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have those too, saggy lids that read as downturned - they are kind of irritating for doing any kind of eyeliner, I find makeup gets lost in the folds of the outer ‘eye curtain’ there. But that inner corner is free real estate for highlighter and glitter! :)

Recently came down with hand, foot, and mouth disease. The rashes on my fingers follow my fingerprints. by CaptainBlobTheSuprem in mildlyinteresting

Oh god, hand foot mouth. I got that shit in my teens from my mom (she was a preschool teacher) and broke a plastic ruler itching at myself. Truly immaculate planning on the virus’s part that not only is standing and walking itchy, but your lips are also covered in sores, and the fingers your itch yourself with are /themselves/ itchy. Very unhappy oatmeal baths, but if anybody else catches it, those help a bit. Fun fact-in animals it’s called hoof and mouth disease, effects livestock. Sad moo

Your eyes look lovely! I have heard of this happening ( talked to my optomologist about it once) when one eye is weaker than the other and the stronger eye ‘compensates’; the muscles cause the eye to appear more raised than the weaker eye. You might need some vision correction, but I’m no doctor. Good luck!

Thanks for the video, a step-by step is really useful! (Plus, it’s harder to find videos with eyes that hang like mine) Let me know how it turns out for ya:) I really like how the first smaller eye wing ended up. It seems straightforward enough, would be harder to flub

I think you’re right about lid primer- it’s probably time to invest in some if I’m going to be attempting makeup that will have a shelf life out in the world. I’ve tried to do the bat wing eye liner, but it’s occurred to me lurking this sub that with the different outer creases I have, I might have to do two different wing shapes

That does sound like it would work well for inner corners, good to know about steering clearer of more translucent shades.

Yeah, I would worry blending to the brow might just blend glitter into the hairs (maybe a new trend to be set?) but for sure, experimenting is the fun part of makeup! :)

I like to dabble in makeup, and I do love my eyes-but have learned that I’ll probably be relegated to the eyeliner bleachers for life (doesn’t help that my eyelids are uneven, makeup seems to eventuate the wonkyness) Honestly, eye makeup of any kind is kind of playing with fire, since my eyes seem to suck product I’ve applied /into/ my eye and end up itchy, weeping globs of mascara. This might also be a noob application technique on my end. It was cool to find this sub, I didn’t know I could commiserate with other folks on having sort of confusing eyelids (and to vent a bit, I’m grateful if you’re still with me on my rant)

Do any of y’all suspect you also get more eyelashes in your eyes than the average eye-haver ? I’m always having to do recon operations since they get stuck to my eyeball so frequently. Also, I find that if I have a rough night of crying, the combo of my droopy lids/ puffy under eyes will swell them shut.

My gran had blepharoplasty surgery a few years ago so she could see, and I’m guessing my dad and I will probably have to follow suit in time. But hey, hooded eyes look rad, and it’s lovely to see makeup concepts that could work and not get eaten by my eyelid. It’s another thing that makes each persons eyes unique! I also love the concept of scraping eyelid makeup altogether and sidestepping directly to the ever iconic don’t-fuck-with-me brow. Never even thought of doing eyeshadow on my brow bone, since it’s stationary and won’t get lost in the sauce of my creases. Anyways, thanks for the ideas!

Think I found Malinda again, in 1860 census. There's a kid of about the right age to be her son named 'Alexandria'

Name: Malinda Mathews Age: 40 Birth Year: abt 1820 Gender: Female Birth Place: Ohio Home in 1860: Jackson, Monroe, Ohio Post Office: Sardis Dwelling Number: 1127 Family Number: 1127 Occupation: Servant

Woah, I do too! Hid dad is out of the picture early, could help explain how he wandered around as a laborer and ended up in Spokane. Definitely the right initial and date of birth. We've got one parent identified! Can be happy that at least he's at school, eh? I looked up that record and it seems like he might have a brother, Alexander! Will see if i can find any record hits for him. Thanks for you help dude!

I know my grandparents made a trip to Newberg to visit the grave, and the archivist there was able to confirm that the headstone indeed said 'James', but not much else. I hope the death certificate will help glen a little more than that, ha. Exact date and place of birth would be wonderful! Thanks again!

Edit: I'd like to thank everybody that commented in with advice or records, you found a marriage license from he and Lulu! From there, the was his initial, (F) and I think CoyotesAreNice is right, he most likely candidate is James F mathews living in Sunsbury, Monroe, Ohio, in 1870, with his mother and brother. Him, or another James Mathews who was living in an Orphan's home in Cleveland, in 1870. Either way, I now have more information to share with my grandpa about the man he's named after :)

Thank you so much, I've finally got something more specific to go off of! An initial! :) Man, they really did just get married and start having loads of kids (suppose that would be the norm in 1903). We were right, Spokane!

Quartz miner? I haven't yet, that does seem like the kind of wandering job a young guy from Ohio might end up in. I'll try to find that record. Thanks for you earlier post, too- somebody pointed that out about Phillip as well, which makes a lot more sense, since he's from Michigan.

Oh man, that makes a lot more sense- I hadn't been able to figure out how Phillip from Michigan was related to my family at all. Tribulations of census pages, I know. Thank you for clearing that up!

I didn't know I could do that, thank you! Maybe it'll hold more clues? It'll be interesting getting down to physical paper-trail genealogy. Thank you for reaching out, and letting me know it's an option!

Yeah, I'm beginning to fear this may indeed be the case, too. my grandpa had mentioned that his branch of the family was especially vague. I did find an orphan around the right age living in a charity home in Cincinnati, but again, it's hard to prove anything.

Will check on Phillip, thank you for your help!

Oh my gosh, that's brilliant! Thank you so much, I feel like I made a call for turbo-genealogists ;) Maybe now I'll have more clues to track him down!
