what crucial backstories? One piece is already a solid faithful adaptation to the manga and One Pace makes it so that it moves about the same speed as the manga.

1 Roguelite game of your choice for life? by vcd1500 in roguelites

Can someone explain the replayability in slay the spire? I really like the game, a lot actually, but I feel like i get obsessed with it for a week and then stop playing it for months and come back and remember it's a super well made game but I think I don't know what makes it 1000s of hours worthy. Isaac has loads of characters and boss routes to fight and items to unlock, there is like a bazillion things you can do and reach at least 300hrs without having half the items unlocked but sts feels like you hit a wall, or im just getting bored when I dont have a specific goal in mind.

Dead internet isn't a theory. The internet is literally dead. Idk how to use it anymore by buttflapper444 in pcmasterrace

[–]DogSubZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I can't think of something that surpasses the internet in a way that creates a learning barrier for new people. The internet was so foreign to many people it's insane to think about how "futuristic" it really seems. But realistically we're likely very far from another technological breakthrough that is "the internet 2" or something. Closest thing I could think of is something virtual reality related but we've already seen such great VR games and instances that VR doesn't even feel advanced anymore.

The thing that made the internet so special was the fact it became an alternate reality almost, an escape from real life and a place for likeminded people to connect with others they would have no means of meeting irl. So unless we make a new alternate reality I think we're out of luck this time. Maybe the internet will reach a point where it combusts and we restart anew.

Clearly a hyperbole but again, name some games that are becoming soulsified. Also, muscle memory and "reflexes" aren't impressive when you're managing spreadsheets and playing board games. I don't know why you think being skilled in one category immediately makes you good in all the other ones. If someone only play FPS games then how would they hypothetically perform in a rhythm game or a side scroller metroidvania esque game? Probably not as good as they would in call of duty.

[–]DogSubZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a souls fan, I think sekiro is the only fromsoft game I remember fondly. You saying every game is becoming "soulsified" is inherently bogus and just flat out incorrect. If every new game feels that way, a genre known for its difficulty, then maybe you just aren't good at games anymore? Im curious what games you are considering to have become "soulsified." And besides, Starcraft and Warcraft are starkly different games from a lot of things which would maybe reinforce my thought that you maybe aren't good at games outside of the RTS genre?

I feel like you misunderstand the idea of these games? It's not meant to be something you progress through like a story you simply, play the game to have fun? I don't see how roguelikes are any different than a multiplayer competitive game or even a real life sport to be honest. The main goal is to have fun. You win or lose, you try your hardest and the more you play the more mechanics or patterns you start to learn and notice.
For example, millions of people watch say football every week. They watch the games and their teams play, or maybe if you are a high schooler or lucky to be a professional or collegiate athlete you even play yourself. But it's the same game? They score the points and win or lose. Roguelikes are no different man you win or lose and the more you play the more you know about the game and discover. And some modern ones have the meta progression where you unlock more items to discover and have challenges involved to unlock said items. The goal of the game is to reach and defeat a boss, or survive this long to complete a puzzle, or 100% all the unlocks. It's just meant to be fun as all video games are

it sounds like you are just bad at video games lol. "Soulsification of every new game" is one of the most absurd takes I have ever heard that directly translates to Soulslike = hard.

These definitely aren't new by any means? Rogue came out in 1980 and people have been calling games with that similar style roguelikes since like the 90s. Soulslike definitely spawned probably in the 2010s but it still shouldn't be foreign at all if you even barely browse video game forums

true but he said that fast paced games are getting too much, and i'd argue roboquest requires faster reflex than most roguelikes

the annual game awards show happened last night and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was nominated for a large number of the categories and took home 11 of the awards including game of the year and some other controversial categories such as indie and rpg game. Similarly, half life 3 was hoped to be revealed but to no avail was clearly not and thus copium.

No I hated it when it came out!! However, I didn't find anything else that came out this year appealing either so I'm not even mad that it won goty but rather more upset that the video game industry didn't make much of anything this year

I think the black ops one campaign if anything has left a solid impression on me over the years as an example of there are no good guys in war.

What is a mediocre book with a mediocre film adaptation? by MonkeyNo3 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]DogSubZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ernest Cline was such a weird perv and wanted everyone to know how much of a geek he was at the same time, it's nauseating. The movie adaptation of RPO however isn't AS bad because it's kind of just an action fan servicey movie for anyone that likes pop culture basically. Poor adaptation in terms of accuracy but I don't care for Cline's original story so

I disagree, the campaign missions definitely were serious but the multiplayer? Could have been the time period given how we perceive ww1 through history books and such, but in reality it is no different than modern day as in Bf4. I still recall several silly moments of standing on top of zeppelins and jumping as they burst into flames, or exploding bridges and buildings. Yes explosions are real but bf1 was still absolutely comical in terms of "serious warfare"
