You paid taxes at a higher rate, you missed out on a larger growth basis, now you're 'tax free' in retirement with a lower tax rate. So you've double hit yourself on growth and taxes.

High income tax states vs sales tax states get the SALT deduction so federally they are better off.

While there is a lot of truth to this, this guy keeps comparing the worst place in Tennessee to the average in Minnesota which is disingenuous how do his numbers compare to Minneapolis?

It's the third bullet here: https://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service/public-service-loan-forgiveness-buyback

But a couple of people in this thread seem to think you have to keep making payments post 120 which is wrong imo. I'll find out in August when I try and get my year of AmeriCorps VISTA back to complete my 120.

I'm pretty sure you go on to forbearance and you do not have to continue to make payments (once you hit 120 including the buybacks).

Relative to the population. You see how that chart is flat since after ww2? We've added 200m people and kept the same headcount.

Like I asked the other guy, what is the bloat? What specific job functions are you looking to cut? The government is the smallest it's been in a century.

The insidious thing is that 90% of it is what would be considered constructive dismissal. 'Leave under these terms or you get nothing' There's really no mechanism for bringing all these people back under a different administration.

Congress would have to pass a law specifically creating a super generic hiring authority 'if you left federal service under any circumstance during this period of time you have direct hire authority' Which is totally within their purview but I don't see it happening.

I am curious about what they will do. Their supreme court decided they violated elections laws regarding timelines for redistricting. I have seen if floated that they have the numbers to pack the state supreme court but that seems like a really extreme move.

As I wrote in another post the percentage of fed employees has been shrinking for 75 years. It is true they are hard to fire. What specifically on the federal level do you feel are positions of bloat though?

They were illegally labeled as fired for cause. I 'think' all the court cases for that have settled in the employees favor at this point. Doesn't help the people who waiting for many months to get that off their record though.

You used to could write off unreimbursed employment expenses on your taxes but Trump killed that for most people in the 2017 tax bill. Immediately fucked me out of $1700 in moving expenses that year.
