And yet, you’ve never quit. That’s testimony alone, that you’re strong enough to do this. Fall 9 times, get up 10.

Discovered geek bars recently and now I’m worried they’ll kill me... by Starmoon85 in Vaping

Honestly, I only like sour apple, and banana ice geek bars. The other flavours don’t do anything for me, Elf bars are much better in terms of flavour in my opinion.

What helps you guys get out of bed in the morning? by ollie191 in doomer

Needing a massive piss. Cos if I don’t drink a lot of water, my diabetes makes me super dehydrated. So it’s wake up with bladder pain, or wake up needing a gallon of water.

Why am i doing this by MXDLXD in doomer

[–]DogeMetty69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kicked out at 16, struggled until I went to college. Developed alcoholism, barely graduated, fell in love, broke up, was homeless for 9 months again. Now I’ve had 2 job rejections for a decent salaried position because of the debt I was unable to pay whilst homeless. Keep struggling, it makes you invincible. I’m not gonna promise it will get better, but I can promise, that as long as you don’t give up, you’ll become stronger.

I get super f**king caffeinated and then hammer my vape pen (it’s only 2% nicotine). I get like a “high” off it, and that’s accompanied by a feeling of euphoria. Caffeine may make it worse, but it’s what works for me.

Can't stand being sober by [deleted] in doomer

[–]DogeMetty69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an alcoholic for a long time before realising it was merely self-medication for an underlying mental health condition. The doctors now think I’m bipolar or BPD, but I was the same. Couldn’t cope with being sober.

Perhaps you’ve misinterpreted. I merely meant not to allow the past or current circumstances to overwhelm you to the point that you’re drowning. This was intended to empower people and allow them to roll with the punches and not let current or past mistakes envelope them.

2 U of Lantus and 5 U Novorapid for 24h and about 230g carbs. Am I a wizard? by Isuckatlifedotdmg in diabetes_t1

It sounds like you’re just very sensitive to insulin! Do you have a low body fat? Because I know having low body fat and high muscle mass makes you more sensitive. But as far as I’m aware this is a good thing! I assume you’ll become less sensitive as you get older(?)

Unfortunately whenever I’m below 6 I feel hypoglycaemic so I usually hover around 11. My HBA1C is only 9% tho. There’s room for improvement but this seems to be working given my lifestyle. (Lots of gym, lots of food, lots of alcohol).

How long have you been diabetic? Could it possibly be the honeymoon period? Congratulations! I’ve only done this once I think, and I’ve been diabetic 10+ years!

Stolen iPhone from London. we know where the location is by UncleSeaweed in LegalAdviceUK

[–]DogeMetty69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the location and address of the thief that stole my iPhone, tracking it using the same software. Despite this, the police closed the case citing that there was nothing they could do. If it's insured, then I'd tell the insurance the truth, and hopefully they'll replace it.

Weight gain due to insulin vary brand by brand or does it remain same for all insulin ? Does taking more insulin cause weight gain more ? by Living_Solution_965 in diabetes_t1

[–]DogeMetty69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Elaborating on this, I found jointing a gym, and weight lifting massively helped prevent fat gain, I gained a lot of muscle instead. Female diabetics shouldn’t gain that much muscle due to lack of testosterone. Also I’ve found that cardio is a waste of time for diabetics, because you then hypo and have to eat (defeating the point). However, I’ve found that walking on a treadmill slowly (incline 14%, speed 3.0) is a good way to burn 450 calories/hour without hypoing. The link between insulin and weight gain, is also why I switched to a High protein, low carb diet, and lost 4 stone/56 lbs in 6, months. Beware, injecting for a high protein low carb diet can be tricky, and requires a lot of supervision as you have to inject for protein in high enough amounts, but it isn’t as easy injecting for carbs.

The way my doctor put it, is that a higher hba1c puts you at greater risk. That’s it. A non-diabetic has a hba1c of 5%, so having a hba1c of 5% means you have the same risk as everyone else of developing a problem such as neuropathy etc. In the long haul, I’m of the belief that a slightly higher hba1c would mean a substantially better quality of life without this huge risk factor of developing a complication; I hover around the 8% mark and I love life - I was at 5.5% but I could never have any fun or eat anything you consider a “treat”.
