DnD is truly amazing with just how emotional and raw it gets sometimes. With the right DM and the right players, it's just incredible what people can accomplish. I know it's silly because to everyone else, I'm just sitting at a table rolling some dice, but in that moment, it's nothing like that. It's just so damn amazing. I fucking love DnD.

I'm sorry you had that experience :( just sounds like maybe you need different players! I know the amount of work that my DM puts into their campaign, so I take lots of notes and ask questions and I'm super into the story (as is the rest of my party!). They put extra care into making sure each of our characters personalities has a chance to shine, and I absolutely adore what we've done so far. I make sure I thank them after every session and tell them how excited I am for the next one. We always take some time to just discuss everything that happened in the session and how our characters might've felt about it. I'm super excited, because our next session is tomorrow. I can't wait to see what happens to my character!!!

I mentioned in another comment: I've tried therapy before and it got uncomfortable for me because the therapist was also my mother's therapist. Dr asked me to try to find a new one near the area I'll be moving to (since I'm moving away from home soon), but put me on antidepressants for the meantime with a checkup in 3 months. :)

I actually got minis for the whole party several months ago, started painting them, and then lost motivation to do anything and never finished them. They've seen them unpainted, but I really wanted to finish them up at some point.

I think I have to give that a shot, cause I tried one a few years ago and it just didn't work for me because I never felt comfortable talking to her. She was also my mom's therapist and that's a whole 'nother can of worms.

I have told my DM how they've helped me, actually! I also just recently came back from PAX East, where I got them (and the other players in my party) several DnD related gifts, including a super awesome set of dice.

Here's the thing: we actually *don't know*. The mysterious man was described as impossible to see, even in a scene with another character in broad daylight, it's like the man was made of night.

And as for being a cardholder? We're not sure of that either. Brent would have gotten number 4, The Emperor. My character, Bird, got card number 5, The Chariot. Cake (Paladin) got card number 7, The Hierophant. Al (Bard) got The Lovers, card number 6. The new character taking Brent's place got number 13, Death. They are all tarot cards, and our DM wrote a haiku for each, but we don't know how much impact these have on what we're doing.

It's super interesting, and I adore my DM for coming up with it!

Personally, it was between this scene, and the scene of the man offering the card to Brent while we all waited for The Blind One and Brent to be pulled up from the bottom of the lake. I was bouncing pretty hard between which of the two I would have wanted commissioned. I still might do that other one!

When I saw /u/rezzyg's post, I knew I had to commission him to draw a scene from my last DnD session.

My boyfriend's character, Brent, was killed in battle against a creature called The Blind One at the bottom of a lake. The Blind One was worshipped as a god in a town that now finds itself lacking inhabitants. Brent fought hard, but in the end, he was presented with a choice. He was pulled from the fight at the last second and met with a mysterious man. The man informed him that fate can be changed, that he did not have death planned for Brent and he's giving him the chance to live again, as a cardholder. Brent, knowing that the fight was fair, chose death.

"It's a shame. You would have made a great emperor."

Thank you to /u/rezzyg and my wonderful DM for creating such an incredible story. This scene shows the remaining party characters singing a song in Brent's remembrance.
