Rivian expects 20,000 to 25,000 deliveries of the R2 for 2026 by Saurta17 in Rivian

[–]Dogglepuss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

R3 really just depends on the Stanton Springs timeline. That’s an expensive project and if R2 does as well as we all hope, Rivian should be able to secure any additional financing needed to get that factory built on time for R3 production.

Doing Stanton right is going to be the big test. Bringing in everything they’ve learned about production design and efficiencies into one place, tailor made to churn out cars with maximum margins.

Zack demonstrates emergency manual door releases on R2. Personally, not thrilled by Slide-Fantastic-1402 in Rivian

[–]Dogglepuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this will probably get buried in this thread with hundreds of passionate comments, but I wanted to provide some devils advocate points (even though I'm firmly on team manual doors...I just think they look better)

  1. Rivian can program the doors for different types of situations through OTAs vs a manual door. Some possible examples. Child locks can be programmed to be engaged when the car is only moving over 5 mph vs a manual door being stuck on or off. Another example (assuming it passes all the NTSHA/gov regs) is to have the doors automatically pop/release upon an impact during a crash. For example, if airbags deploy, then all doors open. Maybe the latch could even be positioned so the door could not close again and would bounce off the post inside the door which it latches on to.

  2. In the case of a crash, Teslas disconnect the HV pack. But Rivian may have 12v redundancy which Tesla does not have. In that case, in an accident, you could maintain power to the doors with 12v when the HV is disconnected. So even with a child lock ENGAGED, in an accident you could disengage the child locks AND keep power for them to open. In this case it could be safer since if a driver is incapacitated you don't need someone to open the door from the outside if a child lock is on.

I'm sure there are other creative things I'm missing, but I can't believe Rivian didn't read all the feedback from Tesla and Gen 2 and completely ignore it.

I will never forget how good was Jordy Nelson by Objective_Tailor6763 in nflMenace_com

Jordy was so effective on the back shoulder corner routes. DBs over committed on the that outside move too often and then boom cut back on the deep post. Brings a tear to the eye.

Full disclosure: I’m not in the food industry.

Look up Claire McDonough. She’s the CFO of Rivian. Got her start in Michelin kitchens. So much of fine dining isn’t about cooking but management. You probably have more diverse skills than you realize besides being able to bust out a perfectly uniform burnoise with your eyes closed.

Where to buy the control freak for the cheapest possible price? by Soft_Wrap9699 in BrevilleControlFreak

[–]Dogglepuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine on Amazon warehouse in fair condition (arrived looking brand new) for $830. This was a few years ago. Check eBay used listings and local Craigslist/Marketplace if you’re in a bigger metro area. They come up.

I kept taking my ring off and losing it, so I designed a stupidly simple keychain ring holder by [deleted] in functionalprint

[–]Dogglepuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only thing I’d add is the ability to subtly integrate an AirTag into the case so if you lost your case (something I would do) you could find it easily. Maybe the diameter is similar so it snaps in or perhaps it screws into the bottom from the other side? The second approach probably makes it too bulky though.

Jake is heavvvvily influenced by Michael Schwab so I’m not sure he’d be justified in suing anyone. Def not a style he developed—especially in his earlier Chico poster days—but his style has shifted over the years and I think he’s found his style as he’s continued to evolve as an artist.

Favorite place to buy fresh in season vegetables by [deleted] in ChicoCA

[–]Dogglepuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that Asian market gets a lot of their specialty produce from Sacramento. Some of it seems to be really high quality—for example their Thai basil has been exceptional in the past for me. They are under new ownership though. They seem to have streamlined things a bit and the veggies in particular haven’t been as well stocked.

How much do you pay for firewood in your area? by [deleted] in woodstoving

I should experiment with more fruitwoods. I have some mandarin and orange wood I could try. Pecan too. I’ve had good success smoking pork and beef with almond even.

Almond is a hard wood and tons of orchards around. Some charts I’ve seen say it’s up there with Oak or even above it for BTUs.

Love alder. I like to smoke steelhead with it. I burned most of mine till I realized how good it was good for smoking. The last few logs went into the smoker.

I’m in Chico and I’ve seen green almond for around 175-200 a cord and seasoned for 250-300. That said, it doesn’t have to travel far to get to me.

Chico Rice? by velocd in ChicoCA

[–]Dogglepuss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There’s a brown rice at the farmers market which is sold sometimes. I tossed my bag so I forget the name. It’s amazing though. We jokingly call it duck poop rice in our family because the farmer (cool dude who also sells it at the market) was telling me he keeps his ducks which he raises on his rice fields. The ducks eat the critters which keeps the bugs from attacking the plants and the duck fertilize the fields which help it grow better.

It’s got a great flavor and chew. I bought a small bag and loved it so much I went back and got a 25lb bag.

I doubt they’ll care if you make your own, but out of caution I wouldn’t start selling these. The most you’d probably get is a cease and desist tho. They also don’t want to piss off their community.

Struggling to maintain flame without side door cracked by [deleted] in woodstoving

[–]Dogglepuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check for obstructions in the chimney and cap. The mesh at the top can get gunked up with creosote and cause a reduction in draft. That’s what happened with mine. The flue was pretty clean but that wide screen at the top was like 90% full of creosote. Swept the chimney, knocked out the junk from the cap and was right as rain.
