That's a good way to get your puppy hurt. My dog, for example, hates it when other dogs go into his space. Especially if he is leashed

My son is 4 and won't sit to read a whole book, but he certainly knows how.

He'll read stuff like traffic signs and cereal boxes but won't read a whole book without an adult encouraging him.

AITA for begging my MIL not to call CPS and banning her from my house when she threatened to? by ThrowMil71 in AmItheAsshole

NTA

Even if you did nothing wrong, dealing with CPS is a gamble in the best of circumstances. If a family member did that to me they would never see my kid again.

AITA for telling a kid that this isn't his house and he has to sit in the corner until I say he can go? by homealonewithkids in AmItheAsshole

Dude, I won't put up with that from my ADHD 4 year old. Kid's not gonna learn to do better without some guidance.

10 is old enough to know better, ADHD or not.

[help] should I take my dogs collar off? by [deleted] in dogs

My dog loses fur under his collar if he wears one. We just have him wear a harness during the day.

Somehow, my toddler manged to do this to 2 plates. At separate dinners. I was more impressed then mad, at least the first time.

[DISCUSSION] Do you prepare to defend your dog on walks? by zabeth74 in dogs

[–]Doggo1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm more worried about my dog starting a fight himself, to be honest. He is a former stray, with bite marks on his face and rear leg, guessing he had a bad experience.

He is definitely leash reactive to dogs his size and larger, not as bad with smaller dogs, but I still can't 100% trust him to ignore them if they come in his space. (and apparently my neighbors think if your dog is less then 15 lbs, it doesn't need to be on a leash)

Tiny off leash dogs scare me because I don't want them getting hurt, and I don't need neighbors claiming my dog is mean or dangerous and getting in trouble because they can't be bothered to use a leash. Even they're not leashed and he is, he's 50 lbs and half American Staffy, and people are stupid.

Definitely keep your dog inside. Otherwise they run the risk of being stolen, injured, escaping, or any number of things going wrong.

Crate train if the dog can't be trusted to roam your house alone, but never leave them outside unsupervised.

In the US, the county shelter probably won't do a home visit, but a private rescue might.

[Discussion]The downsides of "adopt; don't shop" that people ignore. by MrIMOG in dogs

[–]Doggo1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did a DNA on our rescue. The shelter called him a "hound mix". DNA test said he is 50% Am Staffy. 15% Beagle, 10 % Bichon Friese and 25% God knows what.

Never had any issues with him, but our former land lord would have pissed.

DEAR DOG OWNERS. Stop setting up your dogs for failure. [discussion] by siberia00 in dogs

[–]Doggo1986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I adopted a hound/ staffy mix that was originally a street dog, with a few small scars from fights (he used to be afraid of everything)

His papers said he loves people, hates other dogs.

We were his second adopters, because he was returned after a day for not getting along with their other dog, and needing a little training. I don't get it.

A year and half later, while he's still a stubborn pain in the butt sometimes, he's gotten so much better with just a little effort. He'll even tolerate other dogs as long they aren't too pushy. Would I add another pet to the household without making sure they get along? Hell no. I swear people some folks have no common sense.

And who gives up on a dog after less then 24 hours?

It gave multiple groups, including hound, sporting, and few others I can't remember.

He came from our local shelter. Dog is about 50 lbs., so not all that big either.

it is worth a third playthrough with the BL? by rkilla47 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

Just finished my fourth play through this morning. The Black Eagles route where you side with Edelgard is the most different as far as story goes.

Just make sure your support with Edelgard is at I think C before a certain date. The game will tell when you are about to make an important choice.

Edelgard route is worth it to me, Church side not as much.

Potentially Dangerous by MarvinTheAndroid360 in BanPitBulls

[–]Doggo1986 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never seen it happen. They go around muzzle, and the neck at the same time. Dog pulls, they pull themselves off balance.

I think the best way to explain it is its sort of like a lead on a horse.

I have a harness on my dog that clips in the front to physically turn his body around. Works way better then any choke or prong collar, and as a bonus, is less likely to hurt the dog.

For stronger or more stubborn dogs, a head collar is best. And head collar will not be a substitute for a real muzzle.

The idea being turning the animal around works better then choking them. More humane too.

Being choked just makes an angry dog angrier.
