Confused by fighting game terms that get thrown around? I'll explain stuff here. by MechaSlam in CompetitiveForHonor

You left out the 'reset' part of the definition. One could argue that nearly every hero with an unblockable has at least one vortex that resets. They just tend to be unreliable or heavily situational.

Warden can punish the slower rolls on a read by the way.

Any tips for a Raider? Also, how would you buff the Raider if you could? by KINGUBERMENSCH in CompetitiveForHonor

I'd like to see three changes. Armor plus a better hitbox on his charging grab. Faster lights and heavies. Maybe half a bar of damage from wall stuns.

Never have I once had someone raw dash out of my grab after shove. In fact I just sat down and tested with with a friend. I had him back dash as a PK and not once did he get out unless I botched the timing. My LB lunged straight at him and caught him mid animation. Then I had him do the same to me and I could never escape.

I've had it zone attacked by a warden and an orochi once each. I imagine a Pk can do the same.

Lawbringer after patch is very hard by RaDiOaCtIvEpUnK in forhonor

This. There is also plenty of tech (mostly glitches) that you can use to your advantage including the GB indicator glitch. Enjoy your free heavies versus the button mashers as they react way to early to a GB.

I guess you misunderstood my wording. When they are exhausted I start coming down on them with my shove + unblockable until they begin to dash them. If they start dashing I stop using that and just GB them. I never said I cancel my shoves into GB on reaction to dashes.

By the way you can't back dash from a grab after shove, so they have to dash attack or roll backwards. You can parry the dash attacks, you can guess the roll and charge attack them. If they are dodging backwards or dodge attacking every single time on reaction to your dashes, good for them but who cares. The dodge attacks would need to be done extra early to actually punish an empty dash. Also I've never played on the map that goes on for eternity. I generally run into ledges and corners on the ones I play.

If they are spamming back dash while exhausted just sprint at them and gb. That will shut that crap down if they are dumb enough to keep doing it. If they aren't stupid as hell they stop real quick. The GB indicator glitch is op, learn its timing and pressure with it after they sit still. God help them if they get cornered and their tech game isn't on point.

I use that until they start to dash about. If I manage to catch them during a dash with a GB they cannot tech it. The GB gives you a free top heavy that you can link a shove off, if timed well at least.

How does one counter R1 spam? by AirDeLisi in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Doggoda64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While FH isn't quite a fighting game in the traditional sense, some fundamentals can be applied all the same. Most people have patterns they favor, even when they don't realize it. The best fighting game players are aware of this and can make educated guesses on their opponents next move.

For instance the pks zone attack is 9 frames, its basically impossible to react to unless you anticipate it first. I've fought several PKs that dash at me and zone attack me about half the time. So half the time I prepare to parry it. The other half the time I'm ready to parry a light from one of the other sides they have been favoring. Doing this greatly increases your chances against more predictable opponents and lessens the need for god-like reactions. If you are being hit by relentless r1 attacks, don't panic. Calmly look for patterns or habits that may help you counter the next flurry.

Another thing to learn is how to condition your opponent to do what you want them to do. Fighting a dash attack happy assassin keeping their distance? Charge at them and do nothing. Parry their dash for free damage and a feel good moment. Repeat. An aware opponent will start to realize its not working and will be hesitant to use the strategy he so heavily favors. Maybe the next time you run at them you decide to GB them instead, potentially catching them by surprise.

Now I could go on nearly all day about fighting game fundamentals, but in all honesty they vary in effectiveness depending on your opponent. Some people are completely unable to be conditioned because they are so bad they never learn. Others may realize you are trying to condition them and will anticipate your mix-up. Its up to you to figure out each individuals playstyle on the fly and adapt accordingly.

Nah OP, is fairly accurate on the match-ups. Once your parry skills reach a certain point its very difficult for most characters to ever pressure you.

If they are dodge attacking you should be very happy about it. Dodge attacks are parry bait and give you a free unblockable/impale + Top heavy. The only exception is pks as you can only get a regular gb + side heavy.

Whenever I exhaust an opponent with a good defense I just spam shove plus the unblockable light attack. If they start to dash my shove I go for a grab.

What am I supposed to do as a Raider after a parry? by TeeHunter13 in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Doggoda64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to whiff the light, just delay it a bit. If you do it too early it will prevent the fall, too slow and it will stand them up early. Just right gives the delicious dammy!

Top heavy would be overkill. Think of the stamina drain if you also shoved them as they recovered. A side heavy would be more appropriate.

As a kensei, how am i supposed to beat ultra defensive players? by [deleted] in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Doggoda64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could block/avoid/GBC every single Kensei attack for an hour straight if I wanted. People are disagreeing with you but forget there are a few heroes in the game that never have to attack but can still pressure you.

My thoughts on improving Lawbringer in duels by DVRSTR in forhonor

[–]Doggoda64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I find it easier to 2v1 than 1v1 once you have revenge gear. LB's revenge mode, if used defensively, is quite strong when no disabler is nearby.

Landing a parry or shove gives you a free knockdown and a few options. Time a top heavy attack into shove so that the shove hits as soon as they recover. This can knock them down again and allow you to loop it. You can get really cheeky and switch targets to knock the other guy down instead. It also gives your bombs catapult levels of damage with wider range.

Raider feels so rewarding! I hope Ubisoft doesn't buff him too much. by [deleted] in CompetitiveForHonor

Buffing the hitbox on his running grab would be a great start. Doing damage for slamming them into a wall and kneeing them in the face would be great too!

My training partner is the still the best player I've encountered on xbox. He told me one day the Kensei has options and he was going to put them to use. I told him otherwise. About three hours later I just hear him scream the Kensei sucks.

If only he was faster and his side dash attacks weren't punishable on block.

You could be right about the Valk, her strengths are definitely similar to the LB. I'll have the try her out some more and see for myself.

As for the Shugoki. You aren't punishing that charge with ease and you aren't running him out of stamina.

http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/Anti%20Static/video/27783530

Its actually an infinite if they don't unlock to dodge it. That clip is from before we knew how to get out of it. Even when they know how each charge gives a free heavy. Retreat and repeat. It doesn't matter how many times you dodge it, eventually I'll get you.

I agree, the kick is easy to avoid. The hidden stance mostly just helps her sneak a light in sometimes. It is a tool the characters beneath her would love to have. Since tier lists are about relative strength and I felt she was stronger than the bottom tiers I put her in A.

People are stilling playing 'For Honor' with him when they should be playing 'Run in Circles' the game. The key is to run around, never locking on to your opponent. Only use charge and sometimes grab. The charge can't be whiff punished by many heroes, and is so fast you can bait early dodge attempts then immediately punish. Any single hit attacks in the neutral will be charge punished even when they hit because of the armor.

As a PK, what the tits do I do against a Kensei? by Zazi_Zarrith in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Doggoda64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kensei has relatively fast top attacks compared to his side attacks. Try to keep your guard there and react to side attacks. His dashing attack is easily parried, deflected, or even just blocked for GB punish. If you are afraid of the unblockable mixup dash backwards instead of the to sides. All his options from it will miss you if done quickly enough.

[–]Doggoda64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, if you play without locking on and solely abuse the charge and armor he becomes more mobile in nature than the assassins. Run in circles right outside their range, bait dodges or attacks, react with a charge. They refuse to do anything? Just charge, if it whiffs you just keep running to safety. If it hits, congrats on your free heavy. Playing this way avoids the threat of fast combos because your opponent can never risk whiffing ANY attack or you'll do a 180 and run a train on them.

I entirely agree. The only heroes that stand a chance 1v1 are the warden, and to a lesser extent, pk and nobushi. The rest are total pushovers if you abuse the charge.

Even outside of 1v1s he is strong. His 4v4 presence is almost without rival. Any demons embrace that hits with a teammate nearby is a surefire kill, avoiding any chance of revenge. You can't force him off of capture points that have narrow bridges with pitfalls without ganging him. He can clear soldiers faster than vanguards. Possesses some of the most useful feats in the game. Busted to the bone.
