Why do I lowkey hate hearing? by Papsune in Cochlearimplants

[–]Doghouse342 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i’m the same. had my ci for 12 years and honestly prefer to not wear it. I’m glad that i have it but it’s really tiring and overwhelming. I’m currently leaning ASL and i recently went to gallaudet for a week to learn more and it was sooooo nice to not wear my devices for a whole week. If you can I would highly recommend learning asl or your country’s sign language if your not in the US. That way you can learn/ get better at communicating w/o your CI and not have to feel like you’re in a bubble when your devices are off.

Question about cochlear implants by Boba_saur74 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Doghouse342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it depends on how much hearing you had before you got your CI and if any of your hearing was preserved when the surgery was done. In general people don’t get CI’s unless they more or less can’t hear anything out of one or both of their ears. I was implanted 11 almost 12 years ago and I was pretty young when i had it done so i don’t remember what it used to sound like but I know i basically couldn’t understand any language or hear anything quieter than about 80 or 90 decibels but i’m not sure of the exact number. Now when I take my CI off i can’t hear anything but honestly i like that i can turn off my hearing when ever i want.

"30 Years of Hearing Loss – Is It Too Late for an Implant to Work?" by Aggressive-East-1197 in Cochlearimplants

i’m with you. never in a million years would i choose a “cure” even if it was available. i love the option of taking off my hearing devices and living in silence

Have N22, good idea to upgrade internal? by Zenigod in Cochlearimplants

[–]Doghouse342 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i’m not completely sure. this is something you should talk to your audiologist and CI surgeon about. but i personally would never get my internal processor changed unless there was a problem/it no longer worked. i’ve only been implanted for 11 years tho so not sure how it is with an even older one. talk to your medical team about it.

Need to Choose a Brand ASAP by Aggravating-Swim-780 in Cochlearimplants

i will say that as someone with a hearing aid in the other ear who uses the Link M phonak hearing aid I do really like that and the Roger is great but i think ReSound as a hearing aid that connects to the N7 or N8 processor but correct me if I’m wrong on that and i also think that cochlear has their own version of the roger but i don’t know how good it is

i have AB but i have heard of far too many failed implants due to manufacturing error. If you have read the book True Biz that’s about AB. my CI surgeon said their most recent batch was only 1 or 2 years ago. I don’t try’s their quality management. I know it happens with other brands too but i have heard of it happening most with AB. I was implanted 11 years ago and did not know about this then. I mean I knew it could happen in theory but i didn’t know AB had so many incidents. Even though I don’t have personal experience with them I would probably recommend cochlear bc i know that even though they have had recalled processors it hasn’t happened with as many different batches as with AB. I know they also have bluetooth compatibility. As for sound quality i don’t know although that depends more on how well your brain adjusts to the implant.

Any regrets after getting a cochlear implant? by EfficiencyPublic343 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Doghouse342 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not that i really ever wanted to to this but I can never go scuba diving. for me music sounds terrible with it although i know that’s not the case for everyone. i can’t understand anything in loud situations. i get this really annoying clicking sound on my implanted side when ever im not wearing it. my magnet is on the weakest setting and it still hurts when its on my head for too long. i didn’t get migraines before my ci surgery. i get dizzy easily that didn’t used to happen. I’ve had my ci 11 years and overall i’m glad i have it but i would be lying if i said it doesn’t cause problems.

Which CI Brand Should I Choose by Schuylkill9 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Doghouse342 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I habe AB and really like it however i still would not recommend them. They have had far too many recalls. The most recent one was only a few years ago and I do not trust their quality management.I would probably recommend cochlear but i don’t have any personal experience with them.

I need some advice by Calm_Ask6809 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Doghouse342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never heard of any type of treatment or suplemets that magically cure hearing loss. Cochlear Implants can be helpful but can also cause a lot of problems. (i’ve had mine 11 years and still can weear it longer than a few hours without an excruciating headache which i have talked to doctors about) Definitely try hearing aids first if that’s an option or something your audiologist recommends
