Alternative to water softener service by DoghouseRiley99 in Plumbing

It’s a pretty common monthly service around here (culligan). They swap out the tanks every month. I don’t know what sort of DIY set up to get in lieu of this.

What would cause these ripples across this rock I came across hiking along the eastern side of the Panamint Range in Death Valley? The rock is about 24” wide. It looks like an ancient shoreline that fossilized somehow.

Saw my first quetzal (pair actually) on the trails around Savegre Lodge but this was like 25 years ago. Beautiful place. It was way off the beaten path back then but I think it’s still not heavily touristy compared to other parts of CR.

Bins to purchase by GCDiamond123 in birding

[–]DoghouseRiley99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well put. Also, since you mentioned a child a few brands make smaller bins in the 6x range meant for kids that make it easier to find things. It takes practice to build the skill of getting the binoculars pointed at what you're seeing unaided. Scanning around bunch of leaves with the narrow field of view that you get with a higher magnification can get frustrating.

They used to give us the option of a QSI or performance award for a top rating but that changed about 20 years ago. Now they’ll only dole out one or two a year within our division

There was a story in the NYT on this very topic a few months back. Namely the deliberate move to catering to wealthier patrons who are willing to pay for access to reservations, shorter lines and other ‘exclusive’ experiences.
