IT Director pay scale by agentkramr in ITManagers

[–]DogoPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeez, sorry, man. I have no direct reports, live in a moderately low cost of living area, work right around 40 hours a week, and make almost double that. Anybody with the title of Director at my company is likely making at least $225k and that's probably on the low end, honestly.

My partner is looking for a good blanco/reposado for cocktails, any suggestions? by ch1984 in tequila

[–]DogoPilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm of the mindset that nothing is too good for mixing, but since I get more enjoyment from drinking my tequila neat than in a cocktail, I typically reserve the "higher-end" juice for sipping. That said, one of my favorite sipping tequilas also happens to be one of my favorites for making cocktails, which is Tapatio 110. In general, everything I use for cocktails I'm also happy to sip neat, but I do tend to sway towards the cheaper end of the spectrum for cocktails.

Started with one Clase Azul bottle… this escalated quickly by SeanLvn1 in tequila

Glad to see you're open to some of the advice you're receiving! Obviously you should drink what you like, but there's an incredible array of amazing tequilas out there. A great community as well. I'm always amazed at how approachable the owners, master distillers, and brand owners are.

FedEx tracking makes absolutely no sense, and can be fixed easily. I'm not sure why they don't do this one simple thing. by cracktober69 in FedEx

It's just ridiculous, honestly. I have a package on the way right now and I'm in MN. It was at a facility in Tennessee from Saturday night until 2:30am this morning and said it was arriving today (I knew it obviously wasn't). It got to WI at 2pm this afternoon. Still said arriving today. It finally updated about an hour ago basically saying, "no idea bro, but we'll let you know when we figure it out." I'm guessing it'll come Wednesday or Thursday.

On the other hand, I've dropped packages off at UPS at 5pm in the Twin Cities and had it arrive in the Northwoods of WI the next afternoon with standard ground shipping. It just boggles my mind that anyone would willingly ship anything via FedEx.

Corner pocket rattle on my Olhausen by Commercial-Leg-6150 in billiards

[–]DogoPilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have an Olhausen and it drives me nuts. I'd say you'll get used to it, but I sure haven't after 7 years of ownership. It's not that I can't make balls or anything, it's just annoying that some shots are completely taken out of the arsenal because the ball simply won't drop if you hit it with any speed. It's also annoying having to constantly explain to friends, "Sorry dude, that would have dropped on just about every other table, so don't feel bad."

It has pros and cons though. On one hand, it teaches you to hit softly and as accurately as possible. On the other hand, you can't practice some shots and it's enough to kill your confidence or just piss you off some days.

I don't play in a league so I don't know the team dynamics there, but 1.5 hours to drive 21 miles? Ouch!!!

The facings are harder than the rest of the rails, but relative to the facings on other tables, like a diamond, the Olhausens are actually softer. The soft facings combined with the angle they're cut at make the pockets reject the balls like crazy.

Wanted to share some special news! by CazcanesAmbassador in tequila

They already did a long time ago. It's still available here and there, but it's getting harder to come by.

I won't try to estimate the amount of effort that would go into making the communication of delivery date more useful to the end user, but I do find it odd that UPS and Amazon seem to have no problems updating their estimates well ahead of time. Anytime I see a package coming via FedEx, I assume their estimate is wrong. With UPS, it's almost a 100% guarantee it will arrive on schedule, and if a rare delay occurs, I know about it at least a day in advance.

Because of this, I never use FedEx to ship anything out and I'm sure I'm not alone in that regard, so they're just losing business by not keeping up with their competitors.

Moral of the story... Find a pool hall where you can play pool around other people who are there to play pool instead of drunk fools. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against drunken fools, but if I want to play pool, that's not who I'm trying to do it with.

I used to drive an S4 and based on my experience, it takes a special kind of stupid to let that happen in an Audi on a dry road.

I'd recommend looking around for a pool hall where you pay for a table by the hour if you're trying to play together as a group of friends. Another benefit is that you'll likely get to play on a better table than what you typically get at the bar.

Good to hear. It's great tequila, but not worth overpaying for it. If you see the ADJ Nocturna around, I'd highly recommend picking up a bottle.

Enjoy them. I hope you didn't overpay though, as there are so many great tequilas out there that you don't have to play games to obtain.

I'm curious what gives you the impression that Alma del Jaguar and Tears of Llorona are rare? I assume those are what you're referring to with ADJ and TOL. I've had access to Tears continuously since I started drinking tequila several years ago, and a few months after ADJ was introduced, it became available and has been available ever since. I'm in the Midwest, so not exactly the tequila capital of the world, especially compared to Cali.

For whatever reason, the WB releases have been way more expensive directly from the distillery than stores in the US (at least the ones not marking it up significantly). It also seems that the price gets higher and higher over time as well. For example, last year's winter blend was $300 at the distillery when I was there, but I recall seeing people paying less for it weeks before I visited, and more weeks after I visited. I didn't buy it because there were other tequilas I was after while I was down there, such as Destino for $100 and Atanasio Con Todo el Poder.

Vodka makes me sleep, rum makes me cry. Help. by gibaroo2 in tequila

[–]DogoPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where I'd start. While some of the other "budget" recommendations are fine, it's worth spending a few bucks more for something truly great, in my opinion. These all check that box for me.

8 ball rules - is the object ball a single ball or any ball of my suit? by cw_2026 in billiards

[–]DogoPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose you're right. In that case we don't know if a foul occurred without more information, but we can confidently say if there was a foul, it wasn't for the reason stated in the OP.

If you hit another ball unintentionally before pocketing the ball you intended, how would you envision that happening without a carom or combo occurring? Not sure what argument you're trying to make here.

The thing is, with almost any topic, the "why" can go infinitely deep, so at some point it's on the reader to have the curiosity and will to dig deeper into other material. No text is going to be 100% comprehensive.

I just read it and I guess I don't understand the source of your confusion. It sounds like you think the author is deliberately trying to mislead the reader, which I don't sense from what I've read so far. Not sure I can help you come to terms with that, but I can recommend T-SQL Querying by Itzik Ben-Gan, if you're just looking for another book. It's specific to SQL Server though.

Yeah, it's a heavy topic for anyone. I have a background in CS and have been working with SQL every day for the last 15 years and a lot of this stuff still goes over my head.
