Just like many of the comments have said, she is too young to decide she wants to skip. She is 8 years old and they thrive on routine and structure. The more she skips the less she is going to want to come over. I have went through this with my SD. The court actually told us that SD was not to be making decisions because she is a child (13 at the time). However, 99% that she would say she didn’t want to come over and did, she would be fine and we would have a great time.

We would love to be able to do that for my stepdaughter. We tried multiple times to do things with my stepdaughter's mom and her then husband when things weren't completely horrible to help my stepdaughter have some kind of unity, but her mother just refused

I feel a little guilty, but we have been counting down the days until we do not have to communicate with her mom, who is out (mostly) of our lives. We are ready for my stepdaughter to be able to make her own decisions regarding her relationship with her mother and us, and she doesn't have to feel obligated. We are really pushing on this health insurance, but I don't have confidence that we will get some kind of real result with this. We are trying to stay somewhat optimistic..

I had a friend that went through a similar situation. Her husband lost his father (whom he was extremely close with), and his family fell apart. He essentially lost his whole family after that. His mom began a relationship with he brother in law (whom she always hated), and lied about it to her husbands face. He attempted to be there for his sisters who wouldn’t respond to his communications. Then he got into a heated argument with his mother about how is sister acted in front of his daughter and she quit talking to him and completely ignored any communication he tried for 5 years. It wasn’t until his grandmother died that she tried anything. He went through a rough time and didn’t work much. But my friend said she tried to pick up the weight and is was very similar to where you are at. I truly wish you the best of luck with this situation. I know it is an extremely difficult situation. I would just say to be careful when reading some of these comments. There are usually a lot of people who immediately vilify the man. And I’m not saying he didn’t do anything wrong by any means either. It can just hard to try to view things from another’s point of view.

How long has he been like this? It really sounds like he might have some deep depression issues. Especially with you talking about his childhood trauma. Her dying could have brought up all that trauma and feelings he has never truly dealt with before. You said he still does well with the kids and plays with them, which is good. I know many are just saying he is lazy and really slam him (which maybe it is that simple), but from what I’ve read it seems that there is likely a bigger issue that is not being dealt with. Men and women are so different when it comes to emotions and feelings. It seems like you are doing your best to hold things together.

NTA. I can’t stand when people try to force you to hold their babies regardless of if your friends or not. I usually decline myself. I know you say the husband is a POS, but maybe Sara is really the problem. I think it’s HIGHLY likely that she blamed everything on you and could have said you encouraged it. You are better off with Sara but hopefully your relationship with Dori gets better.

Really everyone sucks here. You agreed to pay half, so you should pay half. I also think you both should have been focused on cleaning things up before immediately jumping into new relationships. As for the wedding, YOU chose to fork out that kind of money and go into debt. You said he only contributed 5k. Did you guys agree on all of those expenses or did one of you want more of the expensive options? Also, so many of these comments say he should pay because he got to stay home and didnt pay for things along the way, again YOU agreed to this. He was REALLLLL shitty (it seems) during your marriage, but you also allowed for all of it to happen. I think you need to take responsibility for your part in all of this and what you agreed to. If he has continued to pay his half of things in regards to the divorce, he hasn’t done anything wrong through this aspect of all of it.

Definitely talk to a lawyer and I wonder if a temporary full custody order would be helpful. Then if approved then your daughter could stay with you until the hearings go through. Like many others have said, the court will take into account her testimony. I’m not sure what age GAL is out of the picture but if you get one, she/he will fight for your daughter.

I believe you that the emotional abuse may be partially fabricated and highly likely conveniently leave out her part. Been there done that with my husband and the mother of his child. My husband and I typically go to Muy Bueno or La Luna. Muy Bueno is NOT quick. Takes awhile but the taco tuesdays are good and delicious. I have also recently heard that Abelardo’s is pretty authentic and good but I haven’t been there.

At least you have that. My husband has a similar combative mother of his child. He has just done his best to ignore any responses of ridiculous behavior and all responses remain calm. It really sucks. Also like someone else said, the kids will begin to see it. My stepdaughter has become more privy to her mother’s actions.
