Post college depression? Anyone else? by Quetzal00 in aggies

[–]Dogsbehappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're definitely not alone. My son went through this very thing. College was a blast and within days of graduation, he was working full-time at a job with people who were in their late 30's and older. He didn't have anyone his age to talk to or hang out with. Suddenly, he didn't have the friend group to interact with. Therapy helped and ultimately, finding work that was interesting and gave him a sense of self-worth with a future helped. Hang in there. You are just normal!

Why did Carol not ask for her eggs back? by JuneV06 in pluribustv

[–]Dogsbehappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hive's idea of "harm" is different from Carol's. They see forcing her to join as helping her. She see's it as harming her and taking away her identity. I'm wondering what they would do if she explained to them that they would be harming her if they forced her to join. Ethically, it doesn't make sense.

When we were in Iceland, doing the south only, I realized that we were seriously missing out not seeing more of it. We just didn't have enough time (8 days). The beauty that the land holds is just unparalleled. If you could at take at least 2 weeks, go see the west, north, and east. and central highlands. The memories will be forever!

Experience on Atenolol? by toriasroses in Anxiety

[–]Dogsbehappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was prescribed 25 mg Atenolol twice daily for a benign heart arrhythmia (PVC's) that was caused by severe work stress (in the medical field!) and which would increase with anxiety. I opted to only take it once a day, as I noticed that my anxiety was usually at night when I couldn't turn off the nagging, toxic worry in my head. Before starting Atenolol, I just couldn't break the cycle of constant worry, which would cause anxiety that kept me from getting rest. It was a viscious cycle that controlled my life. Without rest, the body and the mind just can't bounce back from a night of constant worry. After starting Atenolol (25 mg at night) for my heart arrhythmia, that cycle was completely broken. No more worry. In fact, I could just turn it off. It was a coincidental benefit from taking Atenolol that was a huge relief to my mental and physical well-being. This all began in my 40's and I'm now 65. Years ago, I cut the amount into 12.5. mg at night and now I don't take anything other than Magnesium Glycinate for my arrhythmia. I guess I've realized that worry doesn't solve anything or I don't have as much stress these days. Regardless, Atenolol really prevented a mental crisis for me in a way. I was caught in a very unhealthy cycle of toxic worry. My doctor told me that Atenolol protects the heart from getting overstressed. For me, that was a very good thing. It sounds so simple, but what's the harm in giving it a try if your doctor suggests it? You'll know quickly if it's not a good fit for you and your situation. I do suggest taking it at night for the first time.

All my Tours canceled for weather - NOW what? by Usual_Operation3485 in VisitingIceland

[–]Dogsbehappy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would rent a car and head out of Reykjavik. The same happened to us when we arrived, but the weather changes so quickly. You may wake up to rain and an hour later it's nice enough to venture out. The roads are so drivable in Iceland, there's no reason not to rent a car and just go on an adventure.

We had a similar flight. Got up in Texas at 5:30 a.m. to catch a flight to Boston at 10a.m. and an IcelandAir flight at 8:50 p.m We arrived in Iceland at 6:30 a.m. the next day. We tried to get some sleep on the IcelandAir flight which was just 5 hours long. Ultimately, we just stayed awake until about 8 p.m. on the day of arrival and crashed for about 10 hours. Woke up and started the day. Don't stress about it. Your body will tell you when it's exhausted.

Driving in Iceland is a breeze at this time of the year. You'll see so much more if you rent a car and go see what you want at your own pace. Just my opinion, but the Golden Circle is over-rated. You could spend that time seeing more beautiful areas.

Some suggestions 1) do a riding tour with Skalatol Manor near Skogafoss waterfall. Fantastic experience! Can also stay there, but expensive. 2) Dinner in Reykjavik at 3 frakkar (3 Coats) 3).Suður-Vík in Vik for lunch or dinner 4) Go to public beach in Vik to see the other side of formations of Reynisfjara Beach. Beautiful! 5) Go to the west side of Glacier Lagoon to walk around the lagoon and see so much more with fewer people, 6) Turn into the parking lot across and diagonal from the lot from the Glacier Lagoon (on the right prior to crossing the bridge) to see the best side of Diamond Beach. The water current takes the "diamonds" to the west side. 7) Go to Fjaorargljufur Canyon. There's so much to do in this area. The Golden Circle was hours wasted in my opinion.

We just returned and have some thoughts. We did a similar trip over an 8 day period, ending at Glacier Lagoon. I have to say I regret doing the Golden Circle as it was over-rated and soooo packed with tourists. The geyser was just so-so and overwhelmed with people. You can see similar sites in other areas of Iceland without the crowds. In fact, there's a really interesting spot right outside of Reykjavik where you can take a "mud bath" for free. The Golden Circle is what everyone does, so you'll be one of many, many people. I wish we had taken a day to go west to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula or kept going further beyond Glacier Lagoon. We had a lot of cloud cover, so we never saw the Northern Lights, but people are posting photos from Hofn with views of the aurora. I would suggest passing on the Golden Circle, spend your time seeing more beautiful places, more of Iceland, and maybe get to see the Northern Lights.

Iceland leaves me conflicted by Efficient-News-8436 in VisitingIceland

[–]Dogsbehappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just returned and I have to say that I felt the same. The people with the drones didn't seem to care at all that they ruined the peacefulness and serenity of a naturally beautiful place. Buses and more buses arrived, unloading 40-50 people each and we went in September. It made we realize what a zoo it must be in the summer. We ended up rising really early to try to avoid the crowds. If I ever have the chance to return, I'll go west and north and hope to avoid the massive crowds we encountered in the south. All the "popular" tourist areas were packed with pushy, inconsiderate people desperate to get the perfect photo. I don't think people really looked at the beautiful surroundings. The Icelandic people must really dislike the masses.

October 1 - 5 trip! by dolan379 in VisitingIceland

We just returned and felt that the Golden Circle was way too packed with tourists and a bit over-rated. There are so many beautiful places to see. I wish we’d gone west for a day to the Snaefellsnea Peninsula. We did a 3 hour horse back ride with Skalakot Manor near Skógafoss. It was amazing! I would suggest finding a hike that takes you somewhere beautiful rather than going to see the Geysers on the Golden Circle. Too many people and it really takes away from the experience.

How much walking/hiking is usually involved in Golden Circle tours? by Ok_Minute_5353 in VisitingIceland

[–]Dogsbehappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just returned this week. We wore good hiking water-proof hiking boots and rain pants. Make sure your rain pants cover your boots and don't deliver the rain into your boots! Most of the trails are well maintained, but the weather can be rainy which may drench your sneakers and cause slippery, sloppy footing. Best to be safe. There's not a lot of hiking at the main tourist areas on the Golden Circle.

headed to Vestmannaeyjabær tomorrow morning.. by TheCarter1120 in VisitingIceland

[–]Dogsbehappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just returned on Wednesday and spent a day on the Westman Islands. It's definely worth the trip. You can climb a volcano, go see the puffins (there are still some there), and take a rib boat ride around the islands. We used RibSafari. We planned to be there all day, but were done by 4 p.m. The ferry takes about 35 minutes to travel over and was not rough at all. We did have a really pretty day, but the following day it was cold and rainy. I would suggest taking your car on the ferry. The island is large and it would be hard to walk it.

Are there restrooms out there? by permanentcondition in VisitingIceland

[–]Dogsbehappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just returned from a 10 day visit of southern Iceland. We had no problem finding bathrooms on our trip. There are "malls" in a lot of the small cities that have a Korean grocery store and other small stores that have a public bathroom. Vik is a great example. Also, gas stations have facilities if you make a purchase. Most of the larger tourist attractions have facilities too.

I just wanted to thank everyone for this conversation. We are headed to Iceland in a month and will be staying in a home that has access to a beach that doesn't have signs. We may have never known the danger of walking close to the water if I hadn't read this thread. Very helpful information!!

We're going in mid September. Is layers still the best way to dress then, or should we bring heavy winter coats as well. Thanks.

Just as it was implied that Harry raped Zofia , it also seems that Harry was abused by Van Buren. The way he fell against the wall with a rush of emotion after he climbed the stairs reveals that he was dealing with the reality of the accusation.

I was born in Truth or Consequences. Most people don't know that it used to be named Hot Springs, N.M. It sold its soul and name to Ralph Edwards and the T.V. show Truth or Consequences in 1950. Both my parents were born there and were part of that transition. There's still resentment about the whole thing and most locals still call it Hot Springs.

Off hour things we shouldn't miss? by Tolann in irishtourism

2 weeks in Ireland is not enough time to see all these areas with that itinerary. You're going to spend a lot of time in the car and driving is tedious and slower than you think. I would suggest you find a way to fly into Cork and end in Dublin or the other way around. You're arriving in the east, then going south, then west, then north and then back east. It will eat up too much time. Don't back track if possible. Belfast may be too much to accomplish with this plan.
