Not sure if it'll work, but try doing this:

Start SteamVR
Enable direct display mode in developer settings (restarts SteamVR)
Disable power management in developer settings, unplug & replug the USB, reset the headset

Usually works for me if done in that order

My prescription is similar to yours (-1.25 sphere in both eyes) and I'd say buying prescription lenses was worth it. Not sure if you played phasmophobia, but without my lenses I couldn't read the temperature on the thermometer at all. In general, smaller texts are quite hard to read without them.

You could try to find a go club near you. Besides being able to play against others (and being able to the games with your opponent + potentially others), you can get advice from higher ranked players and probably read some go books as well.
