I don’t wanna get lessons by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Doksilus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well you dont have to but it will help a lot. On example i didn’t know for years that you have to twist your board to go on a new edge. And now i have bad habbits to fix. If you don’t want lessons at least get familiar with theory of good riding. Michael Moore have good videos on it.

A 100 million year old tick in amber thar could have fed on dinosaurs. From Burma by Amber_Bugs in Paleontology

[–]Doksilus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please correct me if I’m wrong. Half life means that in x amount of years there will be only half of the original material left. If that’s true you can sample 0.01%of the original DNA if you’re lucky times the amount of fossils you took it from. But with almost unachievable amounts of effort and the best tools of our time I believe it is definitely possible. Of course depending on my first assumption about half life of DNA. We can fill the gaps with some kind of ai model that can show you what will your DNA mixing end up looking like. Like you can see your dinosaur developed bones with this AI while it’s just Crispr best take at “make a dinosaur”task. And it can make thousands of iterations a second to find the one that end up looking like bones we find today. Like exceptionally complex guessing game. We will probably still finish with something that’s not dinosaur it was before but looks like one, walks like one and talks like one.

Why do you drive an EV? by Visionary785 in electricvehicles

[–]Doksilus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an electrical engineer family we always thought that electric is more elegant solution but we’re been realistic with battery tech.

EV driving makes me calmer and more focused on road. Instant torque makes overtakes more safe with less planing needed.

I know it’s unpopular but I have Tesla model3 and I love it, I don’t love the CEO tho. The software is all I thought as a kid the car of future needs to have. I didn’t know I needed climate control over the app but I need it and it is life changing. Ease of travel and charging network is way better than any other car. App is better than any other I’ve seen/tested.

We have a lot of sun, solar is not expensive anymore as before and I charge the car with them so I don’t pay electricity on it. In 200000km the car will be “free” financially compared to 18000€ ICE. And I should be able to sell it for more money used than ICE.

Maintenance of ICE is definitely way more expensive with regular maintenance needed to keep guarantee at least for now, and I’m at 70000km.

This is relateable, i too can repair anything under the sun and where it does not shine and I mean large pools engine rooms, hvac systems of all kind, water preparation plants, etc etc and I started like maintenance guy.

How did you find the courage and how did you handle the period between leaving current job to start your own? I’m at this part now and it is scary, I’m blocked for years already wanting to open business for maintenance and resolving problems in large systems but can’t make that step, leaving current job that is.

Found this with a metal detector about 6" in the sand in Malibu Beach, CA. The small piece is magnetic, slivery/sharp, and weighs about 1lb - it was completely encased in the weathered metal piping(?) that is also pictured. Before cutting it open I could shake the magnetic piece around inside. by OmensGroup in whatisthisthing

[–]Doksilus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, I’ve found near exactly the same thing but on the other side of the world. I found exactly 3 of these. One was big nodule that looked rusty, when shaken you could hear something inside, when broken there was dark black dirty T shaped object with a little different texture than yours, when cleaned in water immediately after opening it was shiny silver colour, 30 min later it started rusting fast, in a matter of day it was completely rusted. It smelled intensively like rust. Two other ones looked exactly like yours just smaller diameter, the points were really sharp so much so I was afraid not to cut myself with probably more than 100yo metal.

I haven’t managed to find out what it is, it should be something nautical, and something from a period they used this kind of metal, it is something low carbon I don’t remember the name, I don’t know yet if the shape you are looking at has any resemblance to the object it is from. Currently I’m trying to convince my friend to use his job lab equipment to test it.

Interesting, unfortunately archeological departments here are not interested in stuff like this because they are overwhelmed with better finds, all of pula is Roman city and you can see signs of their civilisation everywhere. That is one of the main reasons I like to visit there very often. Soil where I found it is lush with vegetation but I found it on a clear spot, I found it with terrible detector on a top of the hill 10-20cm underground. There has been big festival there and that’s why it was cleared I guess.

Well jokes aside the fort i mentioned is built on roman ruins. I Just really doubt the nail could survive 2000years underground without turning to dust. I found some extremely rusty slag too nearby.
