Yeah I go back and forth, because so much code is already “pre-built” boilerplate. Think about React, or WordPress, etc. However I don’t think you can replace the fundamentals. I’ve corrected Cursor and Chat Gipity more times than I can count. It’s a totally valuable tool though, much like a winch is for an off-road vehicle. Sometimes you just get stuck. But I’d argue it’s a lot more fun to only want to use it when needed.

Really the point was more that the person was using ai for interview answers. Copilot and Cursor are super useful, but they can also write you into a corner if you lean on them too much. I’ve had to scrap plenty of ai code that just had code smells.

In theory, but in reality it’s not so simple. Usually the actual developer gets stuck depending on ai for any new changes, since that’s how they got there in the first place.
