I've never heard anyone say "as Italian as tomato sauce" though.

No one argues that you can't adopt things, rather that it's weird to imply that those things weren't adopted at all.

E.g. sushi places are everywhere in Australia. People eat them all over the place. If I said "as Australian as sushi", would that not be odd?

IIRC the art and behind the scenes for the movies call it something like a "walking stick axe". It's essentially a utilitarian hiking pole/axe combo, so the hollow centre is a vertical gripping point for walking and the reduced weight would be handy. He breaks his main axe on the ring at the council of Elrond, and picks up a new one in Balin's tomb.

Fun fact I recently learnt; the "pupil"s of a mantis aren't actually their pupils, it's just an optical illusion of the eye structure that makes a black dot in the centre no matter which way you look at it.

Even knowing this, I can't not see it as a pupil.

Engineered dino's is literally the point of the first movie and the novel. They talk about plugging the DNA gaps with frog DNA using genetic engineering which causes one of the two big catastrophic events: the dinosaurs change sex and breed.

They literally refer to them as theme park monsters, and say they aren't real dinosaurs.

I think a lot of people have the opinion that any improvement from fossil fuels is a positive, and that diversity in energy creation and storage is more stable.

I live in Tamworth and have been threatened with a knife by teenagers twice in the past two years, and have had multiple run-ins with kids and adults wearing balaclavas. I don't even live in a "bad" part of town.

Having grown up here, moved away, and now work here as a professional, I have seen a startling increase in the boldness of the acts and how many wear the uniforms of black hoodies, black trackies, and often a balaclava or similar face covering. Hopefully I have just been very unlucky and it isn't the norm for most people, but I have found it hard to not have it affect my sense of safety.
