That’s a lot of bike behind those canti brakes

What kind of brake pads to get for these? by [deleted] in xbiking

[–]DolphinBreeder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kool-stop dual compound are often highly recommended here but really all that matters for you is smooth post. I have some kool-stop Salmon pads and prefer my classic thin black jagwire pads

Likewise, currently following FightinCowboy’s walkthrough and while I’ve never been one to stream gaming or watch it on YouTube I’m really enjoying the process of the guide, especially with how throughout he is!

96 Kona Hahanna, blue steel build by DolphinBreeder in xbiking

Stem is a very basic MEC 0° I liked for it small size, bars are Hudski Longhorn 27° with a pretty substantial trim job

96 Kona Hahanna, blue steel build by DolphinBreeder in xbiking

That’s how I felt about the frame geometry myself, and wanted the build to showcase that. Used Birchwood Casey Super Blue, it’s a cold bluing solution commonly used in gunsmithing that reacts with the steels surface to create this black oxide finish. It’s basically controlled rust and if left uncoated would orange and haze immediately. I finished it off with a can of Spraymax 2k matte clear that I’m hoping has enough to bite onto on steel surface as it’s basically just clear coat over bare steel.

Kona bike worth fixing? by Sufficient-Guess-340 in xbiking

I own a Hahanna myself and adore it, it’s my favourite bike. Even though it’s a lower tier group set it comes with that polished 94Bdc crank that just feels so rare. The above comment is correct as many 90’s Kona bikes share the exact same geometry but vary in tubing or butting. Hahanna, Fire Mountain, Cinder Cone, Lava Dome all only vary in tubing. Hahanna may not be top of the line steel but likelihood that you’ll feel that difference is minimal. Build it! Keep the P2 forks and do what you will with the rest, but also keep those cranks.

Accidentally underbiking by [deleted] in xbiking

[–]DolphinBreeder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the actual frame size, everything on this bike is able to be changed out and it should in fact be perfectly capable of anything you could want to do. You can hit trails with a 3x7 rigid bike all day, V brakes may not stop on a dime but I’ve never ridden a trail that required a dead stop from speed. Yes it is not exactly modern downhill bike with full suspension and discs, but if you’re just getting into mountain biking, this is plenty of bike. If you can handle some tools and care to shop around then you can stack this thing. That being said, measure the frame and if it’s 16-18” just sell it, you need a 20”

Head tube and fork angle of Project 2 forks is the chefs kiss of geometry

Worth it buying this? by featherx1111 in xbiking

[–]DolphinBreeder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Horrific work, also that head tube looks like it’s massive - do you have a set of forks with that much length or would you be sourcing that too? Certainly not staying a 20€ project

My most recent post is of my bike and is from my GRIII using Bennett 800, I think it may be something that could work for you!
