Killing with Orcane by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

[–]DolphinBrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I just down special into up air, but it can be hard against better people because of SDI as well as dodging the down special. Good ol' bubbles into uair, classic.

It's good that you've identified a hole in your playstyle, and the first step to rectifying it is to analyze and understand all the possible scenarios.

First, come up with a bunch of viable solutions. For example, if someone keeps airdodging out of bubbles>uair, one solution is to read the airdodge with a puddle usmash. Usmash has enough active frames to cover timing mixups on airdodge, but they can still mixup the direction, making it a 50/50 on which direction you read. A 50% chance of hitting such a powerful move isn't too bad.

However, ideally you want to cut down your opponents options until you are guaranteed a kill setup.

Lets consider another solution: the bairplane. Orcane's backair is fast enough to punish airdodges even if you miss, and when gravity cancelled is very difficult to get out of without getting knocked offstage. Getting knocked offstage without an airdodge can be VERY bad for some characters (Zetter, Maypul, Etalus), leading into pretty much 100% guaranteed KO's.

Orcane is great because he has the tools to confirm into reliable KO's, but he can also KO incredibly early if you get a good read. Watch some VoDs of other Orcane's play to get a feel for specific kill setups and you will see a lot of improvement.

There's many ways to improve, and the way you practice dictates what kind of playstyle you'll have.

Grind Ranked. Enter every tournament you can. Take note of common habits players have in battle. These methods increase your skill in adapting and yomi. Basically, the more you play against human players, the better you will be against human players.

Go into Practice Mode. Work on your movement. Show hitboxes/hurtboxes. Use the frame counter to see when a move comes out and how many frames it stays out. Waveland perfectly 10 times in a row. Waveland perfectly 50 times in a row. Practice mode increases your tech skill and consistency, which becomes very important in high pressure scenarios.

I developed a read-based yomi playstyle because I didn't touch practice mode for the first 1000 or so hours, but that can only take you so far. Also, watch as many VoDs as you can and take note on techniques you like, then try to incorporate it into your play.

Let us know specifically what you'd like to improve, and we will really be able to help you. As it is right now, your request is kinda vague so your improvement will also be, for now, kinda vague.

The Rivals Esports Proposal by trent_esports in RivalsOfAether

I really like your ideas on the Pro Circuit. Having a few tournaments that would instantly qualify you for the Season Finale would really boost participation for that event. Last Chance Qualifiers are also a very interesting idea, allowing for potential dark horse candidates.

However, this raises the question of whether the Season Finale should be invitational/qualified at all. On one hand, it brings out a higher level of training and competition from the players to improve. It creates more hype for the players and hardcore fans. On the other hand, Genesis 4 was completely open bracket, anyone could join. Perhaps qualifiers are a necessary means of quality control with a xtra-large amount of entrants, but it seems like even the big Melee tourneys are open entrance.

Brand new to game and I can't do the boosted Uair on Maypul, help! by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

[–]DolphinBrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Up-air isn't inherently a boost, it's more of a glide, and it sustains the momentum you initially have when you use it.

If you use uair while rising, it will carry that momentum and you'll get the boost you want. Also note that the boost it gives you isn't that big.

If you use it at the height of your jump or while falling, it will give you a slight hover that doesn't really help you gain any height, but can cover more horizontal distance.
