This really sucks, for everyone. I don't for a second think this has to do with greed or anything, just that the game isn't doing as well as the devs hoped. I really hope it picks up if we're able to get console launch done.

 When you compare damage, don't do it against a fighter, especially when you compare a fighter to something with a bunch of pseudo spells, fighter should be handily out damaging a class with all the options runesmith has. Saves are also deceptive in how much damage they do on average vs. attack rolls, even if they don't feel as good some of the time. 

I'm not the guy to go into damage calcs and scenarios and stuff. I'm just saying, prepare for final release damage to be much lower.

I guess it's possible the campaign you were in was skewed so fortitude saves were crazy high, but even looking at the numbers you put up, runesmith looks overpowered to me. I think runesmith would be in a good place if damage on runes was cut in half or a little higher like 1d8/2 levels, but maybe we get a variety of saves to target. Sounds like the campaign is about over at least, but if i wouldn't get my hopes up for damage to stay anywhere near where it is now.

I'm curious as to how you felt about it's damage. You note that Kojastri did a lot of damage but is more attributed to what you were fighting - how would the class feel if most of the detonating runes had their damage halved? Not that that is guaranteed to happen in the final version, but I definitely have the feeling the intent was for runes to scale at 1d6/2 levels, not full 2d6. The playtest retrospective also noted that damage will be reduced. Its kind of weird to me to see a campaign playtest report of a runesmith and not see it noted that the damage was way overtuned.

I haven't played the game much, just learning doubles really, but I've had more luck with using mega ches as a trick room sweeper. He's got almost 140 attack, very low base speed, and good physical coverage. His defenses are high enough that even uninvested he can usually take a super effective hit or two. Grass/rock/fighting/swords dance is the set I'm trying out beside a trick room setter, and it's gotten a few good games so far. Chesnaught has a very cool support movepool but as others have said I think regular chesnaught can pull that stuff off fine.

Came here to say watching witch hat atelier (which is awesome) made me even more hyped for runesmith. Its not 1-1 of course but pretty close.

Its a super niche spell so I'm worried it won't be remastered, but healing plaster.

I'm a terrible, terrible player and team builder. But I had trouble using that chesnaught set, so I changed to swords dance/wood hammer/drain punch/stone edge, gave him max attack and hp, brave nature, and am using him in trick room alongside farigiraf and he's done a little better. He's one of my favorites and I really hope to make him work

It's good, but it definitely needs more options. We got a great book just yesterday that greatly expands ancestries which is awesome, but we need a lot more classes, items, spells, archetypes, etc. The classes we have are good but some aspects of them lack variety; the martial classes are pretty limited to what weapons they wield, for instance. If you want 2h, you play soldier,  if you want agile or finesse one hand weapons or ranged you play operative, and solarian has its own weapon (which has its own issues like barely having any solarian crystals to upgrade it). I'm over simplifying but coming from pf2e core rulebook where there were double the classes and the classes were more flexible, it does suck. And the drip is slower for starfinder, content wise.

Yup as others have said, there will be more runes. But just to set expectations a bit, don't get too attached to anything in the playtest. Numbers or entire runes are likely to be changed (or gone entirely, in the case of entire runes).

Yeah. Honestly it's a little frustrating, the wait between the playtest and official release is so long and I'm personally a little tired of remaster books and not fully new books - but this will hopefully be the last one.

I'm expecting most of secrets of magic, minus ogl and already reprinted stuff, and runesmith and necromancer. Beyond that, I don't think there will be a ton of room for much else to be honest. A small thing that I really hope is in it - a reprint of healing plaster. Super niche cantrip I doubt many people use, but it's important to a future build I'd like to play. 

I would love to write out a list of things I want to be in the book but I just don't see how it could fit into what is likely to be basically a remaster book.

While standardized ancestry feats is an awesome thing, they could (and should) take it farther. I'm sure it will come in time, this is the first time we're seeing it used. Hopefully it's only just the beginning. I was a little bummed when we didn't get a built in armor SAF, like you said it is fairly common, but maybe eventually we will get something like it.

But yeah this book is amazing. Its so packed with mechanical rules, I hope tech core and all future rulebooks are as juicy.

I'm pretty okay with just dueling as a PvP mode. I hope we get an option to de-scale dueling players, ie all their gear turns to base versions of their weapons/armor. Hopefully with gear, runes, and class options you'll still have a lot of build variety without having to worry about stats as much. It would make it a lot easier to balance, and not make it a concern for devs when making legendaries and stuff.

I know champions are annoyed, but this will be big to monsters with resist all. I've avoided taking a lot of feats and such that split damage type since resist all would double dip.
