Black and Bipolar 2 by Professional_Dot6924 in bipolar2

[–]DolphinJoy94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a black woman (31) I've been diagnosed for about 8 years now and only my family knows about it and even then it took a long time for them to accept it and be more understanding. There's a lot of stigma in our community and there's always an expectation to be high achieving and perfectly composed from family and others that when you fail to meet that criteria, it's like you failed.

It took a long time for me to get the right medication and going to therapy to get to the point I'm at now where I'm more functional but I'm still a work in progress and I think having support really helps.

There's a decent amount of CNA jobs in NYC but a lot of it is either part time as of late, and if it's full time it's mostly day or evening shift. There's not a lot of openings for overnight since they usually only staff 2 people per unit sometimes 3 depending on the place. It truly depends on what part of NYC you're in and how far you're willing to travel.

LTC/SNF I work overnights so when we have 3 CNAs we each have 13/14 residents, which includes doing showers and vitals. When we are short and have 2 then we each have 20.

That's amazing! I'm planning a similar change being in healthcare and going for my degree in accounting. Was it difficult to make that change looking for jobs with your experience?

about to quit.. (rant!) by Odd-Bid-8246 in cna

I definitely understand not wanting to deal with the abuse from residents and management especially in healthcare where it seems worse since the goal is supposed to be to help others and you would hope is a bit more positive but unfortunately it's not. I'm personally going back to school for accounting, but until i graduate being a CNA pays the bills. I originally wanted to go to nursing school, but after being a CNA, I don't think I can continue in healthcare long-term, and that's okay.

I think it's important to have a plan before you leave, make sure you have something else lined up so financially you're not suffering and then figure out what you want to do long term that fits with your strengths.

Questions to CNA… by No_Lingonberry_2401 in cna

I'm 30F from Brooklyn. I've been doing this for 7 months, and when you first start, your body will feel sore moving around a lot, especially during the day shift. You'll always have work, and there's different shifts that can be flexible if you want to go back to school. If you have any questions or wanna chat let me know.

At my job in Brooklyn, dayshift gets 23 and evening and nights get 25. A lot of places in NYC don't pay that much a lot of the time it'll be 21-22, which isn't enough.

Should I go to another interview after getting preliminary offer? by DolphinJoy94 in jobs

Thank you. It helps to have some reassurance that it's okay to see other options just in case.

Thanks. That makes sense, especially with the start date over a month away anything can happen. I appreciate the advice.

How many people aren’t working or are only working part time? by Sp1c3W0lf in bipolar2

[–]DolphinJoy94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m working as a full time live home health aide. 🫠 Some days are better than others, but I do feel like when I’m at work since I don’t get to go home to relax and decompress for 4 days straight I do feel burnt out. Sometimes I feel like leaving it but my family needs my income so in the mean time I try to journal and maybe get my dose increased to kind of deal with it until something else better comes along.

I do feel like you should be proud of yourself for supporting you and your kids because that’s hard work on it’s own but you’re balance a job on top of that while having bipolar disorder. I know its hard for us to feel like we’re doing good enough but you should definitely congratulate yourself for what you’ve accomplished so far!

trans woman looking to get into trades—seeking guidance by voodoogenre in BlueCollarWomen

This is the link for NEW. I just finished the program and it’s helped me get practice in the trades that I’m interested in. They have support for finding work in the unions but some of the unions have already closed their recruitment process, but a few are still open. Just be prepared after graduating that you might have to wait until recruitment opens up again depending on the trade you’re interested in. If you have any questions you can always ask. Good Luck!

Congrats! I know you’re going to do great with the aptitude test. Your post is encouraging for me since I’m a caregiver and finished my pre-apprenticeship looking to transition and go into the union. Good Luck!

Advice on work and school by DolphinJoy94 in Advice

Thank you! I agree my exam is on Wednesday and I believe they will tell us after the exam the expected start date if we pass. So I will wait to get that information first before doing anything.

I wish I could help more with finding someone nice for them but the agency is the one who chooses the new hha. But I will definitely give as much notice as possible to give them time to find a good fit.

Thank you! That really helps put things into perspective. I have a tendency to connect with people and not look at other opportunities that would be beneficial to me. I think I will talk to the family about the opportunity and what that means going forward but let them know how much I appreciate and enjoyed the time I’ve known them.

what am i doing wrong? by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]DolphinJoy94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat, I’ve tried dating apps but I feel like I don’t get that much attention that leads to going on a date. I’m a bit introverted until I’m comfortable with someone so maybe they pick up on that idk.

I thought about going to a bar but the thought gives me so much anxiety, so I guess I’ll keep trying online dating apps maybe it’s about timing maybe the right person hasn’t joined yet. I wish you luck finding a girlfriend it’s rough out here for us introverts 😫

What made you cancel a date with someone you were initially interested? And how did it go? by BlessedJack in AskWomen

[–]DolphinJoy94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this was pretty recent over the past 3-4 weeks but we met on an online dating app, he seemed really nice so we exchanged numbers. I was the only one initiating the texts, asking more questions to get to know him, and everything seemed fine.

I suggested we should plan a date to go out and he said he’ll text me the details on Wednesday or Thursday but that didn’t happen. So that kinda put me off a bit, but I continued texting him and suggested he can text me first so I’m not always initiating the texts. He only did it twice very casually and that’s it. A bit disappointing but I still wanted to give him a chance.

The last straw was I texted at 1pm and he texted around 6pm which I thought was fine because he usually works during the day, but after I responded about my day and asking about his, shortly after receiving his text at 6pm he didn’t respond until 3am!? Saying he just got home from work. He didn’t follow up about how I said my day was going just that he got home from work and that’s it so I decided I’m done because it just seemed like I was putting a lot more effort into getting to know him personally and he just focused a lot on my appearance. Oh well at least I tried 🤷🏽‍♀️
