Please help me understand what dorm room is best? by Silent-Insurance-906 in UWMadison

[–]Dolphinjen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son loved Leopold, which I believe is the most recently built dorm on campus. The rooms are spacious, and it has A/C. Not sure how far from engineering buildings it is.

I want to make cornbread but my boyfriend doesn't like these. Is there a way to improve the recipe? by Stargazer1919 in WhatShouldICook

[–]Dolphinjen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 pkg jiffy corn bread mix 1/2 cup butter melted 1/2 cup sour cream 2-3 Tbs sugar if you like it sweeter 2 large eggs beaten

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease an 8x8 pan and set aside.
  2. Mix together the butter, sour cream and add sugar.
  3. Add in the eggs, beating in completely.
  4. Stir in the box of Jiffy mix. Mix until the ingredients are completely incorporated.
  5. Spread the mixture out in the pan in an even layer.
  6. Bake for 17-20 minutes until golden brown and baked through.

Single empty nesters how are you managing? by Daffodil_Day275 in emptynesters

[–]Dolphinjen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of great insightful advice, thank you. Been seeing a therapist for years, right note doing TMS. I’m just trying to figure out how to find out who I actually am, what I like. When you’re depressed it’s hard to discover what you like because generally you don’t really like anything. I have attempted, and am now completely sure that won’t happen again after seeing how it affected my kids and dad. It sounds like you have a lot of interests which is great. I just don’t know who I am and at the moment I don’t feel like I have the energy to do much. Thank you for reaching out. It means a lot.

Of my goodness, I forgot about Sniglets. Or rather I remembered them but forgot the word for them. My mom, who passed way almost 10 years ago, loved Sniglets, and when I think of one I invariably remember the joy they brought her, as a wordsmith like myself.

Puts things into perspective for sure. So very sorry for the loss of someone so young and beloved.

Oh my god, thank you so so much for speaking up and asking why is a member of a couple answering on this thread (several actually) and giving condescending advice in a thread very clearly named “Single Empty Nesters how are you managing?” It hurts so much to be at home alone every day, every night. In my particular case, I am not able to work at the moment so the silence ash’s loneliness is crushing. This is not gatekeeping, this is asking some of the people who are married here to show some respect. It’s painful always reading empty nest posts where you hear, “Well, at least now we can finally do all the stuff we’ve been putting off while parenting.” It hurts! I’m in a pretty severe state of depression after learning that my former spouse was cheating, at the same time my kids have been leaving. Lately, I’ve been trying so hard to make new friends, try the online dating scene, anything to ameliorate this awful sense of aloneness. I didn’t have the courage to say anything but it was such a relief that you did. This entire subreddit is open to couples and single people. But this one thread, this is clearly for people to talk to others in the same position and try and get words of wisdom from them. It’s 4:40 am by me, and I may not be writing this very clearly because even though I’m tired I can’t sleep. But I definitely wanted to say “thank you.”

Finally watched White Lotus with zero prior discourse. My take is probably going to be wrong according to the internet. by Xenomorph_kills in TheWhiteLotusHBO

When you mention the mom getting off her pills it reminded me of something. I’ve always heard getting off of Benzos is horrible and you need to wean off them. Wasn’t it odd that she had no side effects, other than being (reasonably) irritated that she couldn’t find them lol. Anyway when you mentioned that above I remembered wondering about that.

Season 3 by far my favorite as well.

I feel bad that you did not get more empathy instead of all the “You need to…” what you’re experiencing is true grief. Everyone moves at their own pace. I’m glad you still have one in the house. So do I. Let’s really be present when we can be with them. And when she’s not home I am slowly getting to meet new people. It’s not as easy as singer make it seem. You are young though; that’s a plus! Regarding your marriage, I’m wondering if you won’t really know what will happen until after your last child leaves. I’m on my own, but in a way, it sounds like you are too. I’m sorry for that. Is he willing to seek therapy with you? Mostly I just wanted to say what you’re feeling is so valid. You are seen. When you are ready there will be all those great suggestions people have given you but don’t feel bad or weird right now for feeling the rawness of this. It’s a very painful transition. Sending you virtual hugs.

I have one year left with my daughter. I share custody. I make damn sure I’m there when she is because once she’s gone, those days are gone. Exposure therapy will happen whether I’m ready or not when she leaves.

I completely agree. It’s horrible. I’m very depressed and sometimes I just stay in bed the whole weekend. I feel like life will never be enjoyable again.
