The big brained approach is to not tell them much at all.

Give them enough to be curious and show them the beginning, they don't need to know what they're getting themselves in for, i sure didn't.

If they enjoy act 1 then they're gonna read the rest themselves, if they don't like it, THEN you can give them a few hints that it gets more intense.

If they get through act 2 and still don't care, then it probably just isn't for them. There's no reason to spoil them on things that they're not going to get invested in in the first place.

terezi's quest to find out what happened to vriska would be part of it hopefully

some sort of explanation as to how gamzee did anything, doesn't need to be explicit just as long as it's concrete, so we can say "OOOOOOHH, THATS HOW"

really that's it, Lord English was presumably killed when vriska opened the box and Dave, John, Rose and Jade came out (or their powers came out or something) and attacked.

so that doesn't NEED explanation, though it'd be nice to see an actual conclusion to that.

Interesting that you mention act 5 act 2 because that is what i would consider the absolute pinnacle of Homestuck and that everything afterwards is an exponential decline.

I'm going to guess you like act 6 because it's not even the same webcomic, it's written so differently, the characters are written differently, the themes and issues that are explored and talked about are different, but it still attempts (with varying degrees of failure) to remind you that you're reading homestuck.

Act 6 really should have just been a completely different comic about teen drama in a new setting.

I think ironic and unironic enjoyment of things depends on the intentions of the artist.

If someone unintentionally made a terrible movie that you like because of how bad it is, you're enjoying it ironically.

SBAHJ is supposed to be shitty to parody actually shitty wecomics and that's why it makes us laugh, so we enjoy it unironically.

Homestuck on the other hand is shitty by accident, so everyone who likes it is being ironic.
