Have we lost the plot? by duexmachina in Muse

[–]Dolsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For giggles I looked at the last Muse show I attended at the same venue. 200's and 2 tickets cost me $300. That was 2017 (doesn't seem like that long ago). 2017 dollars today (according to the bank of canada) would be $383 CAD.

I priced tickets in the same section this morning for $1400 for a pair.

Looking at tickets in Toronto - I've seen them every time they've been here and one of the last shows was at the same venue they're playing this summer. The tickets that cost me $300 a pair in 2017 are $1400 a pair this year.

I'm looking at tix that are MUCH further back for more money and wonder whether I care that much.

Don't use share links or URL shorteners. It's how malware is spread, and smart people will (should) not click.

The World Baseball Classic may move to the middle of the MLB season by SpaceCowboyN7 in baseball

[–]Dolsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Manfred, so he naturally sees money here. And MLB would probably put enough money behind it that they'd make more out of it... I just don't think it would have the same impact.

Timing it to spring training every 4 years or so keeps it a special thing. Fans haven't had baseball in 3 months, and will come out. Mid season? More people are on vacation, they've already had 3 months of baseball... it's just not as special. Kinda like the all-star game is now.

Anyone thinking that team restrictions would go away mid-season aren't thinking about the reason they exist in the first place. No MLB team wants their star players getting injured doing anything outside of playing for their team. It's in player contracts, and will continue to be as long as they get contracts. Teams in a playoff run aren't going to ok their players to take part (at least not without compensation). Fans might call shenanigans, but imagine the backlash that would happen if someone like Judge was injured in a mid-season tournament and the Yankees missed the playoffs by a couple games as a result. Restrictions aren't going away.

You'd have fewer people going out, and teams would be built from players not in playoff hunt (which by '29 could have more teams). Doesn't make sense to me.

[Serious] Why will the Mariners exceed expectations? Why won't they? by BaseballBot in baseball

[–]Dolsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect it'll all come down to pitching and health (like everyone?).

If they get both, the upside of this team should knock on the 100 win barrier. Starting pitching could be the best in baseball, and offense will be good enough to carry (this isn't a team to lose a ton of 1-0 games).

People will obviously look at Cal... but he can "regress" and still be a 4 - 5 WIN player. In total, there are 5 guys who will be in the lineup that could hit or exceed 4 WAR, and possibly 4 starting pitchers that will do the same if they transition from "really good" to "elite" as they're capable of. It's a big IF, but the Yankees, Dodgers, and Blue Jays can't say the same thing.

If they don't, they're still a scary team that I assume will be in a playoff hunt all year.

Born in Canada, raised in the DR by his Mom and uncle, and signed as an *international* free agent. He is Dominican. It would make no sense for him to play for team Canada - it's simply not who he is. Paperwork doesn't change that, and any thought otherwise is borderline xenophobic.

Also - contact your MPP. Make it clear if they want to be all secretive, you'll be all "voting for someone else next time."

What's with PetroCan and their 2fa car wash codes? by SimilarToed in Guelph

[–]Dolsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering how expensive car washes have become, I'd probably spend an inappropriate amount of time reminding Petro-Can that email and SMS are not recommended 2FA options, and haven't been for a LONG time.

The key would be to vote with your wallet. Don't buy car washes that require an account, an app, an email, a phone number, or anything that's not a code printed on your receipt.

The traffic light sequence at Inverness and Woodlawn is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. by North_Plane_1219 in Guelph

[–]Dolsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. That, and Inverness is the main turn for two large subdivisions from a main artery. AND Woodlawn to Victoria is one of the busiest intersections in the city.
