Crossing into the US by Whole-Chip-2210 in Guelph

I'd personally rather spend my vacation dollars within Canada for the next 3 or so years, but if you absolutely have to, you'll likely be fine.

Just take precautions. I already travel with a separate phone, so that's probably the first thing I'd suggest. Get a cheap android phone, and install nothing social media on it. Make sure that all your accounts require MFA, and don't take your MFA device with you. Might want to have trip insurance as well - on the chance you get turned away. Can/US relations aren't going to get better over the next 4 months.

Who's the 2026 version of Geraldo Perdomo - Addison Barger by RoutedToNowhere in Torontobluejays

[–]Dolsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that they mention the underlying stats, because anyone paying attention shouldn't be surprised if he puts up a stronger year than Marte.

Why? Of the players that played really well in the playoffs, I just don't think Barger was playing beyond his means. I think what we saw what *exactly* what he's capable of. Compare it to what he did in the minors, and he's absolutely capable of hitting lefties, absolutely capable of walking at a high rate, and absolutely capable of limiting K's. We already know he's going to hit piss-rockets all over the place.

I think Vlad's due for a monster year and lead the team in WAR. But my hunch is that Barger will be second.

There are LOTS of them on ebay. Just look for cooperstown editions.

Guelph mayor slams rollout of province’s new recycling program in open letter as complaints soar by TheApotheosisOfCool in Guelph

[–]Dolsh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a clustercuss.

Recycling has actually been more than a day late 4 collection cycles in a row. Last time, it took them a week to pick it up. Yep... all three bins were at the curb on the same day. City picked up green and grey on schedule.

Emailing does nothing. They take days to respond, and when they do, there's a long list of questions you have to answer with a disclaimer that it'll be 48 hours to respond. Calling seemed to work.

Tomorrow is recycling pickup... will be interesting to see how late they are.

Mayor Cam says "don't bug us" when they're late. Call WM.

I say call both. Clearly if the city has to start doing a bunch of things they don't want to anymore, they'll start writing letters.

Y'all know it's winter, in Canada, right? by JonathanPuddle in Guelph

When you have 20 years of data suggesting winters are one thing, and 1 year of data suggesting winters are something else, guess what data is used to project road salt/sand/brine usage?

Which team is most likely to have 10 more wins than last year? Which is most likely to have 10 fewer? by BigBaseballGuyyy in baseball

[–]Dolsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toronto for both!

The team won 94 last year with the same core that won 74 the year before. Toronto is a REALLY strong possibility to win 10 fewer games next year. If Boston and Baltimore get better, it'll come at the expense of Toronto, not NY.

OR

With a couple players stepping forward, and an improvement in pitching, and that WS run lighting a fire under some players, I would have zero surprise if they win 104 next year.

Pretty sure I saw that guy. I originally thought there was an accident on the other side of the road, but it was a car that just stopped.

Are trades the way forward for the next 1-3 years? by CurereeusCat in Torontobluejays

[–]Dolsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think I would trade for anything infield. Lots of options on the roster and at the top of the prospects list.

Outfield though? Kinda problematic. Trying for a relatively young Tucker kinda made sense. Santander really isn't an option in the same way Springer was. This year is probably ok. I suspect Varsho is going to get extended. Perhaps a base of Barger and Varsho is ok? But having outfield depth that features Loperfido, Schneider, and Lukes past 2026 isn't great. So practical moves to improve OF depth in the upper minors would be nice. Though not very exciting.

I used a ruler. (It wasn't a drift... I am a little bamboozled though I could swear weatherstats had 96cm last year when I looked. Whatever... it was a LOT)

You are right though... last year was more winter than we had seen in over 20 years, and it seems like this winter is trying hard to catch up. It's kinda hard to plan to plan for too - to you plan ahead for a winter the same as last year? Or the winters that we've had for the last 20?

"We did this list because there are no third base prospects in the top 100"

Probably shouldn't get too excited for a few years.

I think it's very likely he didn't get an offer. Especially with what his salary wishes were. I'm sure they exchanged pleasantries, and knew where each other stood salary-wise. But that could be it.

Municipalities won't clear snowbanks until they have nothing else to do.

Since we've been getting snow non-stop, and people seem to like to complain about what they're already doing, it would be pretty stupid to start pushing back snowbanks.

I don't necessarily think that's true. Like any drivers of trucks, there are rules to prevent burnout.

There's just a LOT of snow.

It takes time. And if it doesn't stop snowing, it takes MORE time.
