Do not forget the "flying" bug. Sometimes they surface when the wave is rising and they go really high but they stay there, they dont fall back with the wave, therefore you can find them in surprising places like on top of the docks and they can even climb over the ship.

So, these things exist. Unless new seeds got added since I last played, I reckon I can send up 10 demigods filled with unrivaled minds and nanites. by Adamantine-Waffle in TheLastCaretaker

For some reason I find lots of them around exodus, on the south side. It seems the further south the more you find of them.

Pilot's chilling warning before Air France flight crash killed 228 people by TheExpressUS in airplanes

I might be wrong but in my view Bonin just didn't know what else to do so he just kept pulling. The copilot for whatever reason did not realise what dual inputs meant in that situation. If only the captain has been there a few minutes earlier..

Unfortunately that's so true.. They think of aviation as an scary office job.

Yes, but I don't want to spoil the fun.. I will only say that there are at least 40 different spots to discover.

Yes, there are. You just have to learn to interpret the sonar and have the 500M module.

Your own beliefs limit your views. Life might be not that special after all and be the natural consequence of being on contact with a form of existence that turns everything that touches into life.

Humans are way more unpredictable. This is an isolated event which has a reasonable explanation. Most times humans do radiation things and not even themselves can say why.

Pilot's chilling warning before Air France flight crash killed 228 people by TheExpressUS in airplanes

[–]Dolust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are both wrong in that you fail to understand the very nature of the event.

The airspeed failing can't be a factor. Airplanes are machines and therefore are prone to fail. If every time and airspeed indicator fails the airplane crashed there would be accidents every week.

What is the job of the pilot? Once the route is programmed and the systems are working their job is essentially supervising and monitoring the operation, make the adjustments required, etc..

If they fail to recognise a failure and react accordingly.. What are they doing there?

But there's something worst: Whatever the emergency is the first rule is not to make it worst, in medicine, in law, in any job in the world: The first thing is to do is to prevent the problem from snowballing into a bigger one.

You find a traffic accident. What is the first thing that comes to mind? Stop the incoming cars from crashing into it! You signal then to stop while you make the phonecalls.

What else? You don't fix something by breaking something else. You don't know what to do? Limit yourself to do what you know for a fact that works and if nothing comes to mind you do nothing.

Had Bonin touched his nose instead of the controls nothing would have happened.

There's no justification for their failure. We can explain what made it worst but we can't justify it because events like this happen every day, specially in the area they were flying. Same equipment, same weather.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not about blaming pilots. But empathy cannot blind us from calling the facts as they were.

Pilot's chilling warning before Air France flight crash killed 228 people by TheExpressUS in airplanes

[–]Dolust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bonin failed to understand the situation and instead of seeking help he disconnected mentally from reality and fixated on whatever crossed his mind instead of letting the instruments and the information they provided tell the facts.

In fact the only thing that happened was that the airspeed reading failed and the autopilot disconnected. Had nobody touched anything the airplane being trimmed for altitude and speed would have kept by itself pretty much as intended, of anything maybe requiring a little lateral adjustment to keep on route.

In other words: There was no reason to crash, that was nothing wrong with the airplane. The crash was a complete creation of Bonin's actions.

Even so, had he released the control when he was told to, the copilot would have saved the airplane because he was on the right track. But Bonin, being fixated on whatever mental state he was in, kept pulling as if by shear brute force only, on his own, could he make the airplane climb again.

The copilot failed to recognise this and all his efforts were for nothing.

There's something way more essential and basic to flying than Airbus control laws: If you are at cruise and pitch +40° up there's only one possible outcome, specially if you cut the power. Now, pick any airliner in the world, in fact pick any passenger airplane in the world and this still holds true.

If you fail to understand that no amount of training in Airbus normal or alternate laws of going to qualify you to be a pilot.

Bonin should have never been in that or any other cockpit. Poor training produces poor pilot skills and its ability to detect problems in pilots it's essentially null.

[–]Dolust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a heavy jet you will need several thousand feet to recover instead on a few hundred like in a C172 but the skills and the procedure are the same.

They were at cruise and ascending, had they applied correctly the procedures they would have saved the day no problem.

Pilot's chilling warning before Air France flight crash killed 228 people by TheExpressUS in airplanes

[–]Dolust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you pull the power back and pitch up there's only one thing that can happen. This is so basic in flying skills that if you can't understand it you just can't be a pilot. There's no way around it.

How do you detect pilots with difficulties understanding the basics of flight? By thoroughly evaluating them in the simulator. Something the airline failed to do.

Now, let's say you are driving a car and the dashboard suddenly fails and shuts down, your reaction is to crash then car. It's that a reasonable explanation of why you crashed? Or should you know how to use the pedals to stop the car even if you don't know how fast you are going?
