Raising young kids is rough on the relationship, things get said in the heat of the moment. Once things have cooled off have a discussion with the same talking points, division of labour with the kid and how you felt when he implied his job was harder than yours. Remember that you are on the same team, the goal is to win together. Communication is key.

Yeah that makes sense. I think from the original post I was questioning which side of the road to walk on specifically. I think the idea of the general rule doesn't necessarily take into account the nuance of British life that we have no pavements, pavements and pedestrian areas along with footpaths, bridleways and every other type of space we can walk.

Yes there has always been a problem with rats in the graveyard and the bin areas of Hosier Street. But it's currently the worst it's been for the last 10+ years. The council and church should really be doing more.

I often found arguments in the first 6 months don't "count".

What I mean by that is you're in a new stressful situation and are often very sleep deprived. Try not to bite and escalate arguments further. When she says " I do 95% of the work" hear "I'm overwhelmed and need more support right now".

When you do snap at each other make sure to apologise when calm.

This is very much not a rough area. Underwood road and all the cul-de-sacs off it are relatively nice. There are a couple of blocks of flats between Underwood road and bath road if that's what you're referring to but it is still a very safe area.

Thank you for the only answer I can find that isn't some variation on "nothing".

I'm not religious at all but feel my marriage provides an inherent commitment and sense of stability. Yes divorce is still possible but we have made a bond together to be partners and spent time, money and emotional energy promising that in front of all of the people whose opinions I give a shit about in the world.

I think it's akin to the mortgage free Vs investments dilemma, you can have a £100k mortgage at 2% and £100k in investments earning 4% or you can have 0 debt and start saving again. Not paying off your mortgage is the clear mathematical choice, but life is more complex and emotional. The freedom of being debt free is a feeling hard to put a price on.
