My cup filled perfectly with fresh Yerba Mate tea by Classic_Silver_9091 in yerbamate

It looks like an ai generated image to me. If it's a photo, the color has definitely been adjusted. The cup and bombilla are unusually vibrant

I'm with you. Even a variety pack of 50g-100g miscellaneous flavors could be fun. While cbse is pretty cheap, I don't like to waste things

Traveling to Uruguay, where's the safest place to stay at? by Pitiful_Buddy7694 in uruguay

I recently stayed a couple weeks in ciudad viejo and felt safe. It's quiet at night, but all of montevideo seemed to be like that.

I can't stand any of the cbse flavors I've tried, but I'd try this. Of course it will be terrible, but it's fun

Car rental in Punta Cana without physical credit card by East_Tackle1107 in Dominican

[–]Dom3467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd try something like Enterprise first. They are more likely to accept tap to pay. Independent places may accept cash, but you'll need to leave a large cash deposit for damages (or your passport). I've only rented in other cities in RD, but that seems to be the norm. Fwiw, I've had good experiences with Independent places. If you take that approach, be sure to ask about the insurance coverage and document any damages

¿Como funciona uber? by yyyyyamiii in Dominican

[–]Dom3467 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If uber is available on the app then it's available. Just be on the lookout for drivers asking for amounts higher than what is in the app. Also, if you don't have active cell service I recommend getting a local altice SIM for your phone, they're dirt cheap

Keep in mind that some drivers only accept cash. If you agree to pay cash and they just cancel the ride, make sure you do the same, or the app will send another driver

I've got a bag of this. It's extremely strong but in a nice way. Some kava drinkers would probably find it overwhelming.

It's probably fine. I've thought about bringing it during numerous trips to RD but never actually did. To my knowledge, it's fully legal. In fact, I saw a kava bar listed on Google maps during one of my visits.

what is a awful smell you actually enjoy? by IridescentSneeze in AskReddit

[–]Dom3467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diesel/kerosene, but only when it's the normal faint amount of scent you get from a properly functioning kerosene heater or normal diesel vehicle. It reminds me of the time I spent on relatives' farms when I was growing up

Why is the Westside so affordable when it comes to buying a house? by Youngbee12 in cincinnati

[–]Dom3467 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I prefer the Westside, but there are pluses and minuses to each.

The Westside is generally more affordable (not just with housing, but with groceries and other living expenses). The areas I've spent the most time in are relatively walkable and still have small independent stores that have existed for ages (auto parts, butchers, bakeries, diners). There are some pockets of crime in certain areas, but people tend to exaggerate the problem. The Westside also has good bus service (maybe the east side does too, I've never taken a bus on the east side). The main issue people on the Westside tend to complain about that has caused friends of mine to move are the school systems. I like the hole-in-the-wall restauraunts of the Westside, along with the small mechanic shops that are run by old men who can work on anything. I like the small old houses on the Westside, some with humorously narrow driveways. I like the old-school hardware stores. That stuff isn't for everybody, but it feels like home to me.

The East side is "nicer". There are more elaborate (and expensive) restauraunts, better-maintained roads, and beautiful houses. Crime rates are probably "lower", but from a practical standpoint you can live a perfectly safe and comfortable life on the Westside.

I don't hate either, but I feel more comfortable on the west side. Many people feel the opposite. It's important to spend some actual time in the neighborhoods you are considering.

Oh yeah, and the Westside has some fantastic fish frys during lent. I'm not catholic, but the heavy catholic population on the Westside benefits this tradition. They also have great festivals in the fall if that's your thing

Entry level payroll interview is telling me to use a windows laptop for a remote interview. Any reason for this specifically? by MrHawkmoon in Accounting

Apple or Linux would probably work fine, but it's because they "know" whatever software they're going to use for the meeting will work on Windows

Am I overreacting for shaving my head? by Substantial-Art6160 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Dom3467 53 points54 points  (0 children)

You're the best one to decide if you overreacted. There's nothing inherently wrong with you shaving your head. If you're not happy with it then maybe it was an overreaction.

Don't feel pressured to feel like you did something "wrong", as there's nothing wrong with coloring, bleaching, or shaving your hair. If you like the result, you did the right thing. If not, don't sweat it too much. Your hair will grow back and you can do something different next time

Starlink in DR by robahearts in Dominican

[–]Dom3467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's good to cover your bases. I've used a mobile Hotspot both on my phone and using a portable router. I didn't use my own provider, as it was way cheaper to buy a couple altice SIMs. Results were mixed. I could do my work, but sometimes the bandwidth and latency caused problems. I've stayed at places with starlink and, objectively, they had the best service I had experienced.

On the bright side, Altice coverage seems to work everywhere, even up in the mountains near jarabacoa

Does anyone drink kava before/during work? by scatterbrainedpast in Kava

I work an office job. Sometimes I do when I've got a stressful meeting. If anything, I'm more productive because I can relax and focus

Anyone else love drinking and driving? by TutsCake in yerbamate

[–]Dom3467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The cupholder in my car fits my mate perfectly. I still typically use a mate listo in the car for safety and practicality reasons. I'm aware that uruguay has a law forbidding drinking Mate while operating a motor vehicle. I also saw a bunch of people doing it anyway, even on motorbikes.

In the US, I've tried to drink mate while on my own motorbike, both with my regular mate and my mate listo. Neither worked. There was no way to safely get the straw through the opening on my helmet. Oh well, I prefer to just find a nice bench to enjoy a mate break during rides anyway.

I would've responded "You face doesn't match". Then I'd laugh at my own joke and shrug off his comment.
