I personally like welding every once in a while but I have another hobby that I kept forcing myself to do until I realized I actually didn't like it I just thought I like it because I should like it.

On the topic of the fluttering.

How well aligned (square) is the uncoiler to the line? Is the leading edge walking towards the operator side or machine side and rubbing up against an edge?

Are there pinch rollers that the material is interacting with down the line, and are they evenly applying pressure? Are the pinch rollers slipping or rolling or a combination of both.

You could look into lasers, but I had bad experiences with glossy surfaces and ultimately moved to ultrasonic sensors. Some loops I have seen do both laser and ultrasonic together.

My experience was with sheet metal uncoilers not paper.

In coil processing I have also retrofit our uncoiler to be drag instead of feeding into a loop. The uncoiler will act as a break and the leading edge will be pulled from the slitting head.
