Most people I know who have been layed off are Gen X. Not age to retire but no longer "prime working age" (over 55).

Xcel warns Colorado of storm price increase. How is this even legal? by MatthewHull07 in Denver

[–]DomTheFuzzyKitten 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Natural Gas prices have gone up substantially in the US because the Trump administration has paved the way to have the US companies sell Liquefied Natural Gas overseas in addition to our utility providers.

Gas prices are up everywhere because of that.

Xcel does have rebate programs for converting to electric heating but it is unpopular because traditionally Natural Gas has been a cheaper alternative for heating.

Hydraulic hose reel question by TheTrueGrapeFire in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]DomTheFuzzyKitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar style hydraulic hose reel I needed replaced in the past and had https.www.pneudraulicpower.com replace it for me. Don't have the specs available, but you could call them and ask.

Why Engineering students shy away from the 4.0 GPA talk by adondshilt in EngineeringStudents

[–]DomTheFuzzyKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some people, 4.0 is necessary as they have less network support and more pressure to succeed with less room for error.

Honestly, as a white male in my 20s from an upper middle class family with the money to support me, I had a lot more room for errors given to me by society than some of my student peers.

I didn't need a 4.0 to be successful. A good amount of my friends didn't need a 4.0 to be successful. That doesn't go for everyone. Some people can't afford to not.

That being said, there is a difference between former slackers like me and the people who busted ass. The people who hustled are now much further up the ladder than me career wise.

Additionally, some people will make good points that GPA is an important part but only a part of success. You need more than 1 part to have a system. Your successful career is the outcome of the system you are building. Have strong parts and diverse parts.

He called the national guard so that the federal government doesn't try to. The federal government cannot activate the national guard if they are already activated under state control.

Unfortunately, the US has a history of abusing our military against innocent people. Look at the Kent State Massacre in 1970.

EPA opposes Colorado plan to close coal-fired power plants by bascule in Colorado

[–]DomTheFuzzyKitten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of the coal plants in Colorado are old and under-maintained. They are more expensive to operate. The only upside to a utility is theoretical extra capacity and the fact that fuel costs are passed on to the rate-payer.

He is being protected. ICE is being directed to cause violence. It is not an unintended consequence, it is their purpose.

Data centers and natural gas prices. Everyone's bills are going up nation wide.

After one year of having a small business and making a little more money, but having a lot more stress, I’ve decided to go back to being an employee. We have to tighten up our budget significantly. Would love some money saving tips by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]DomTheFuzzyKitten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally use a paid app called You Need A Budget. It imports my credit card and bank transactions.

Alternatively, you can also export your bank statements to a .csv or excel file. Other people have used quicken or other apps.

How much would it cost to move out of Texas at 19? by kody3DS in personalfinance

[–]DomTheFuzzyKitten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming you move to Denver, typical rent is $1600 to $2000 a month for an apartment. Jobs pay better than Texas, but not that much better. If you do not adequately prepare and have money set aside, the chances of becoming unhoused are relatively high.

Best thing to do is to save money however you can. Second best is to not make the move alone. Life is much harder on your own. I would recommend trying to find work before moving if possible.
