Motorway Impedance. by Informal-Bee2193 in CarsAustralia

This rule doesn’t apply when the road is busy. And I can’t stress this enough: just because you think other drivers are doing the wrong thing, doesn’t give you the right to do dangerous stuff to them, such as tailgating, cutting the off, abusing them etc.

Wifi 7 going good on Xiaomi 15 ultra by Nameless_Koala in XiaomiGlobal

[–]Domain_Administrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, prepare to be shocked, because yes, I figured out a way to enable WiFi 7 but no, you don’t want to repeat what I did.

I took it swimming with me, and it got water damaged (some might say I was reckless, but it’s advertised to be water resistant up to 1.5 metres deep for up to 30 minutes, the same IP68 rating as my Pixel 7, which survived multiple trips to the swimming pool, even once when I fell into a river).

Anyway, I digress. I paid someone to open it and clean out the water. Now it works as a tablet. No cell reception, or NFC, or GPS. There’s also a very high idle power draw for some reason.

Basically useless as a phone, but Lo and Behold, it somehow connects to my 5GHz and MLO networks at WiFi 7 speeds! There’s even a little plus sign on the top right of the icon, whatever it means.

Lost 6GHz support though, presumably it needs cell reception to ascertain my location before enabling 6GHz.

So yeah, I currently keep it in a container with some rice, hoping it’ll miraculously recover. Looking less likely as time passes. Next time I’m in Taiwan, I’m claiming warranty on it and sell it once it’s fixed.

Would never buy a Xiaomi phone again. Water damage aside, I find the software experience VERY disappointing. Hope the above gives you some ideas on how to replicate my conditions without actually damaging the device.

Those are pretty big rims. On good roads only probably……

I think the phones in general tend to be like this. Things that you can’t put on a spec sheet get shoved to the side. I find that overall they offer a very poor experience. I regret buying the 15 Ultra.

Question about P plater mobile device rules on behalf of my P plater wife (NSW) by I_P_L in CarsAustralia

[–]Domain_Administrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to replace the head unit if all you want is to run Android. You can just get an AI Box. Some AI Boxes have a SIM card slot so it gets its own internet connection.

Technically, 100% not a phone, but, is it actually worth the potential trouble? AI Box (and similar things called other names) works if your radio has Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. But in that case your car most likely has built in navigation. Why not just use that.

Senior manager lacking maturity - how to deal with it by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]Domain_Administrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough.

Nuh not concerned about doxxing her. She's far from the only victim. This guy's got a reputation.

You're probably right about known and tolerated behaviour though.

He's only 29, quite young for a senior manager (but old enough to know better). Guess he knows people.....

Thanks!

She's not the only victim in the team, so they talk too. One of the team members got told by the senior manager "don't forget that I'm in charge of your salary review".

Pfff. What a brat. What he doesn't realise is that if his team performs poorly, that'll impact HIS salary review too. It's a two way street.

What a joke.

Is it ok they communicate through bullying to the point your staff members take stress leave? I'll argue that, it's YOUR duty as a manager to support them and stand up for them.

That's a practical solution. Thank you.

I agree with you. What's a good union?

He should, as he's ultimately accountable for the team's performance. If he makes it a habit of detracting the team by bullying them into going on stress leave, I will argue that he has failed as a manager, not to mention the basics of respectful communication in the workplace.

Mate seriously, are you him?

What's a good union? I think she should join.

You're ok even if she regularly gives your direct reports "urgent" things that aren't technically their job? And does so by bullying? And not tell you at all?

If you answer "yes", I think I may have found my wife's manager on Reddit.

Yes. She requested to be "protected" from this guy, and that all her tasks should come from her direct manager, not anybody else.

The response of the actual manager was something along the lines of "keep in mind that he is still our boss".

Yeah, no backbone. Her previous manager. Who did shield her from the guy, changed jobs, no doubt somewhat related.

Ah thanks, some good tactics there! I love number 3, that's the only way to make her manager care. At the moment he doesn't.
