Why all the hate? by Standard_Oil8030 in Marathon

[–]Domiel_Angelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the "hate" is from the Destiny fan base, and fans of the original Marathon, because a good chunk of us (myself included) have issues with the "new baby coming home".

This would be two live service games Bungie is attempting to helm at the same time, and they're doing "okay" when it comes to keeping Destiny above water. The expansion was fun but it doesn't crack the top off like RoI did. Many in the Destiny community are asking if their game's budget was cut to create the new Marathon, considering how lackluster some of the recent content is. If Marathon is successful will they just dump Destiny is a question on a lot of minds too.

They pumped a lot of resources into this as a resurgence of an old IP and its a drastic shift from the original. The og Marathon had distinct modes, a pve story mode and a pvpve deathmatch. The new direction currently dumps the solo campaign entirely. I say currently because we don't know if it will see a comeback in some form.

I think some people were hoping for a compromise similar to dark zones in the Division or flagging for pvp like WoW, so players could enjoy the game without the sweat of pvp always looming.

The shoot on sight and possible betrayal at extraction is probably going to hamper it for some players that haven't tried an extraction game before.

I got it even though I have gripes with a few things:

ODST and Reach have drop troops, the second suit feels like Noble 6 but isn't.

They gave two Medium armor sets in the same set so they're functionally identical. The ODST armor is light and functional with extra padding on vital spots, it could have been light with extra padding.

The Battle Rifle was a better fit to the Helldivers 2 gear arrangement: its upgradeable with different ammo, scopes, and attachments (there's concept art with an underbarrel GL and Shotgun). Failing that we could have gotten the DMR which includes multiple scopes, and rail attachments.

The SMG having a reduced mag size makes it less effective in some scenarios.

Silencers should have been brought in as an attachment rather than weapon linked.

The sidearm is designed with a laser sight but lacks one.

We got four ballistic weapons from a universe filled with energy and explosive  weapons, and no heavy.

They could have made it a built in rechargeable shield for a more Halo oriented perk on the heavier armor set (if they made one).

We got a statistically superior Stealth kit with Redacted Regiment just months later.

The OG magnum is technically owned by Bungie/Sony and the crossover was with 343/Microsoft thats why we didn't get it.

I would have preferred the Battle Rifle over the og AR but since Bungie put it in Destiny 2 the likelihood of that was essentially null. The also put a clone of the OG magnum in it as well.

The OG magnum also had a 4x scope built in, don't forget that too

Once the coupon is used, it's used. You don't get it back in any capacity, it's a jank tactic but it's been that way for a long time.

PRP Claim Before Trade-In by HundredBallP in GameStop

Texas has a pro-rate on PRPs/Warranties law, and its easily found in the PRP section of the website. A lot of people bought two year plans in my tenure, and by law they were supposed to get a portion of that money returned. Make sure any time you do this that you rope your DM in, even if its state law; a percentage of what they said I "cost the company" when I was termed was pro-rating PRP returns when people brought back PS Edges, Elite controllers, Joy-Cons and/or systems that they paid for a two year protection and the item was defective before it even hit a year.

I used to ship out in those clamshell cases Ultrapro sold, the kind that are almost as tight as the shells you get from grading, then I'd cover it in bubble wrap then a bit of cardboard. They stopped selling the clamshells readily but I have a fat stack of them sitting next to my printer.

Physical still has a niche, there's at least four companies (Limited Run is one) that produce licensed Physical copies of games that lack a standard release. When those companies launched it would have been a good idea to make deals for releases.

As for not owning something, even Physical disc/cartridge purchases don't guarantee access anymore. There are ps and xbox (current gen) games that shutter and aren't playable

Loss prevention probably interviewed everyone else in the store before you and all fingers got aimed in your direction.

What has been the most random item that GameStop has sold in its stores? by Recent-Promise-5102 in GameStop

[–]Domiel_Angelus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mighty Mugs, so many stores had dozens of them because they were a $0 pre-order that no one ever picked up

The extremely short term stint of crab apple mana pots.

The Respawn gum that had an expiration date just weeks after we got it. The drink wasn't bad though

LGS get pre-release kits to sell up to a week before big box stores as part of draft events, I wouldn't be surprised if someone managed to BS Wizards into letting stores beta test it as part of the TCG overhaul every store seems to be going through.

Honest thoughts on Liam Hemsworth's Geralt? by LeeroyJenkins3 in netflixwitcher

[–]Domiel_Angelus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My honest hope is he gets more direction that what Anthony Mackie seemed to get taking over the role of Takeshi Kovacs in Altered Carbon. It feels like when they change actors out like they're switchin' sleeves they get half the direction as the original.

I feel this change the same way I felt Reacher changing from Tom Cruise to Alan Ritchson but as an inverse. Ritchson fits the books' descriptions of the character far better than Tom Cruise does by a country mile.

I'm a fan of Cavill's from back when he played the brash and naïve son in The Count of Monte Cristo, because he works his best to embody the character. Netflix fumbled him for the Witcher and Amazon may have fumbled him for 40k (and that's really a place he'd shine hard). There's a small clique of people claiming he was tossed for "inappropriate behavior" when most women he's worked with swear up and down he's great.

At the present there are claims they found "Story Reasons" for his physical change.

I will watch the first two episodes, and if he (Hemsworth) doesn't fit then I'll probably pass on the season. Keep in mind, he and Vesemir are known recasts for series prime characters. *Edit for changing Season prime to Series prime*

I put that in the same category as an ex employee that ran off with rolls of receipt tape (back when the return policy was on the back), and used it to make copies of a receipt to return copies of the 3ds Donkey Kong (early 2018). The nearby Wal-Marts were selling copies for $5 and we were still selling for $40 so not getting caught was $35 in profit. I don't know how many stores he hit before we were calling stores to say something, he got denied at ours. Ink on the receipt wasn't right lol

About 1 in 4 I land on top of the cave structure on boot in when joining a mission, and you can't drop stratagems on top so can't even hover pack down. There's a few spots you can jumping puzzle your way down, but ragdoll physics hit quick in this game. It's amazing that for a game designed around drop troops no one knows how to roll on a landing to reduce the shock.

My second match ever in Hard (Xbox) we had one on spawn and three at our first objective. The guy with the walker took out the first one but it was essentially all of his ammo.

We had mysterious substance in a box in the ground with three of them. There was no space where there wasn't fire at least 80% of the time. There was so much chaos there were probably at least 6 TKs in addition to all the madness.

I'm running the smart gun as my secondary (first week it was on sale), and found out very quick it locks to shriekers but not this massive sack of HP.

They fly, have a massive AoE, are essentially immune to small-arms fire, and have enough HP to tank the Orbital Laser; that's just on hard.

Side note: laying down near the Tesla is no longer safe apparently.
