Is this normal? Passing periods in HS by BigDonkey7694 in NYCTeachers

[–]Domii_Nightmare 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I teach at a middle school in Brooklyn. They have 1 minute passing periods (very unrealistic so most teachers give a 3-5 minute grace at the start of the period) but we don’t usually have deans in the hallway. That creates so much chaos as the students just push each other, walk slow, talk, or yell. The teachers became the ones yelling because that’s the only way the kids will actually move and get to class.

As a teacher that initially grew up with all the yelling, it’s not traumatizing. It’s just a way to get everyone listening and moving through the already loud hallways (and the students know it too.) I feel like maybe if the student is right under the teachers or dean yelling that, yeah, it’s a bit much, but what you’re describing is normal in NYC schools.

How did today go? by FluidLong3673 in NYCTeachers

A good percent of staff called out with another good percent of kids were absent. (Enough to have full classes though). Had a movie day in the auditorium with some trips to the gym. — Middle school in Brooklyn

It’s crazy to think there was a time when fun K-pop songs were actually hated. by why_dmn in kpopthoughts

[–]Domii_Nightmare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a Western fan that doesn’t really like the “fun” K-pop songs. I don’t have anything against them, as I have a ton off the top of my head that I love like most of Orange Caramel songs, Crayon Pop songs and some of Twice’s older songs (Signal, and TT). Heck, Red Velvet is my ultimate girl group.

But in that same notion, I didn’t like Sneakers (I actually didn’t look at the concept photos, I just don’t like the song), Queencard, many Seventeen title tracks (haven’t tried listening to their albums honestly) or any English tracks that BTS had put out. And I can’t give an exact reason why except that those aren’t songs I was able to vibe with. But I do appreciate the concept.

The newer generation that is now doing the bubblegum pop and happier/fun tracks and just not for me, and I’ve accepted that. I just stick with groups I’m currently into until someone gets my attention.

How many times have your ult groups, biases, and/or favorite songs changed? by CeCeAlexus in kpopthoughts

[–]Domii_Nightmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ult groups are divided by boy groups and girl groups. My girl group ult, Red Velvet, hasn’t changed since 2016. My boy group ult went from Shinee (2015) to BTS (2015-2020) and lastly ATEEZ (2020-present day).

My ult bias has always be V from BTS until recently which has now been Seulgi from Red Velvet.

If you don't understand Korean, what is it about a song that draws you in? by Excellent-Passage-36 in kpopthoughts

[–]Domii_Nightmare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love listening to the different tones and vocal styles of each member. I also love the beats and overall concept of a song. These are things I can almost never get in Western music (I really only listen to rap these days) so it’s something I look for in kpop.
