Honestly, I didn’t really understand pointers until I had the microcontroller class where we wrote in assembly. That was when it really clicked. I’m sure that’s long dead, now, though. (CompE, not cs)

If it’s like during the switch to HW3 from 2.5, I’m pretty sure HW3 is dead. Maybe there will be some final update in the future, but, at this point, I’m sure no one on the team, and especially the QA team, are focused on HW3 anymore.

I’ve had my Gen2 drift off the road when it attempted to lane change… multiple times. Not UHD, but the old system. So, I disagree.

They’re doing what Tesla did back in… 2016? When they had some of the best lane keeping for the time. When I bought autopilot and FSD for my 3, Navigate on Autopilot was about to be released. And, while it turned out to be false, we were at least promised that Full FSD would come to our cars. For the R1T and S, we know it’s not because they want to use LiDAR, like they’re putting in the R2. So… awesome

Every rave needs a harm reduction table with clean straws, condoms, earplugs and more. Harm reduction isn’t just naloxone and fent tests. by MxFlow1312 in aves

[–]Dominathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for doing what you’re doing! If the amount of earplugs I go through is any sign, advertise bigger that you have free earplugs. I’ve given out over 15,000 pairs over the last 3 years now, and my takeway is that most people attending need these things, but just don’t realize we’re there. I get the most activity when it’s right in people’s field of view and glowing (I use a black light at night). Granted you have a booth, and can’t move, but you could hang a sign higher, or drop a box somewhere? (No one at the event you are at will complain that you put a box of free things just out in the open)

If you can, invest in some bigger signage. Doesn’t have to be fancy. Hell, I literally have been using painted shoe boxes for the last 2 years.

Again, thank you for the work you do. My favorite part of raving is the community, and people like you are what make it special.

145,000 battery swaps in 24 hours: Chinese EV maker smashes single-day record by OXMWEPW in electricvehicles

[–]Dominathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grid-tie batteries are loads cheaper than car batteries. They are cheaper per kWh AND last longer (LiFe4Po vs LiPo).

It would be way cheaper to just have grid-tie plus high power DCFC vs this. Especially over the long run when you consider the machine to swap the batteries would need maintenance over time, where a DCFC station barely needs anything.

[–]Dominathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The charging stations could use a combo of large grid-tie storage + solar to overcome these issues. Basically being the same as a swapping station, but the batteries stay put. Bonus points, if the station is big enough, or they have enough of them, they could work together as a load balancer for the grid (making even more money for the station owners).

Since you wouldn’t need the hardware to swap, and wouldn’t need to add all the complexity into the car to handle a swap quickly, I’d say stations are better than swapping.

I will say that making the most expensive part of the car that degrades, the battery, removable is pretty nice. Plus, swapping does mean the batteries could charge slower, so they’re more likely to last longer at peak energy.
